Hi I was wondering if you'd be able to help with a wiring diagram. I'm looking to control a valve that is operated by a dpdt switch. The valve has two wires and opens/closes by reversing the polarity of the switch. Would I be able to do this with the shelly 2.5 via wifi and also still use the physical switch? Splitting the L-wire on the 2 L-inputs (4:35) shouldn't be necessary, they're both connected via a bus bar internally. They sometimes advise it because the screw terminals can hold less load than the bar, but you'll still be powering both outputs from the same cable (probably with a Wago in front)

I have a 2-speed whole house exhaust fan w/ 4 wires: Neutral, Load, Hi speed (6.5A), Lo speed (3A). I was hoping to wire it like a curtain motor (with close as low speed, open as high speed, and both speeds unable to be on simultaneously). I tried this with a Sonoff DualR3, testing it at first via 2 lights. For each light to stay on indefinitely (unlike a curtain motor), I didn't "calibrate" the motor as the app requested. Once I did that, the DualR3 worked as I had hoped. But after wiring it to the actual fan motor, when selecting either Hi or Lo speed it would start for 1/2 second and then go back to Off. I later found out that this is because the Sonoff, while rated for 15A, will only accept a 1A motor load. Does the Shelly have such limitations as well (motor timer and load limits), or could it possibly work for my situation?

i was hoping to find here some tips on how to actually fit this behind a switch with all the stiff cables and 3-4 wago connectors. i was also considering to install it behind the shutter outside, but i don't have enough wires to connect the switches. i barely managed to fit the shelly i3s behind the switches, where i actually used double switch boxes - one of them housing the shelly and the other the wago connectors. i am quite convinced that it is impossible to actually install this in a regular switch box. but any tips are welcome.

Hello Csongor! I am looking for a similar smart (controllable trough wifi with smartphone) temperature controller relay like Sonoff TH10 but with two controlled circuits. When below MIN then it will turn ON curcuit "A" (heating), then turns OFF when higher than MIN but below MAX. If higher than MAX then turns ON cicruit "B" (cooling). I do the same now with STC-1000 but it is not smart, need to change the temperature on the spot. Is it manageable with this Shelly 2.5? Do you know a cheap thermal controller (nothing special, only indoor use) shelly can operate with? Smartpid m5 mini is too expensive for me, costs 4x more than this unit. I hope you can help me out with this issue. :)

Hi Csongor, can you comment on the use of the Shelly 2.5 in Shuttermode with a double switch (two separate buttons, one for up and one for down) that actually are switches, locking in the switched position, not like the spring loaded push buttons you use in the video. These switches are common here in Germany for blinds. Thanks Rainer

Great stuff - Is the neutral wire required for this model? I don't have any neutral wires in my house although some switches are on double walls so it can be done if required however this isn't an option for the ones on the internal walls. I have 4 roller shutter motors and some wall switches (some single and some double & quad) for lighting (will need a dimmer for a couple of these) which I am planning to automate. Which models would you recommend please?
@csongorvarga
@csongorvarga 3 года назад
Shelly does not have any model which works without the live wire. So you need to get neutral somewhere. Maybe you can put the Shelly where the shutters are where you have neutral. But than you need to run the switch wires up there. Unless you go full automation and phone control. There are dimmers available as well from Shelly, but I don't know how well they work with bulbs. I never tested Shelly, only dimmers from other makers, and none of them worked well with LED and fluorescent bulbs. Shelly could be different, or you may need to shop around for a proper bulb.

@csongorvarga

Yes and no. It can be operated from DC as well, but only 30 - 50 VDC. Do this rules out 12V or 24V, so only 48V DC is possible. I guess that limits its usefulness in DC.

Congratulations on a helpful review. How can I get feedback on the condition of the blinds, whether it is open or closed. I think on this principle to drive a pair of garage doors. The garage door automation has a magnetic sensor that sends a status signal, but how do I connect it to the relay?
@csongorvarga
@csongorvarga 3 года назад
Thanks. There is no feedback for this device. This is designed for blind motors with built in limit switches. Those turn off the motor when the limit is reached. This is why I said to set the run time a few seconds longer than the actual time it takes for the blinds to go up or down. So the Shelly powers the motor for a few extra seconds to make sure it is full up or down. The limit switch inside the motor will turn the motor off anyway.

Thanks for this. I am thinking of replacing some hopeless switches to my roof vent. They were supposed to have a thermostat and open/close relative to the room temperature and a rain sensor to close the vent when it rains. The thermostat is just terrible and does not perform as I would hope (opening and closing at the wrong temperatures) but the rain sensor is a good story. Can you think of any way to reuse the rain sensor in the wiring of a Shelley 2.5 in roller shutter mode? I was going to write my own home automation to use my heating thermostat to control via wifi when I open or close but was hoping to still auto-close when it rains! Any thoughts?
@csongorvarga
@csongorvarga 3 года назад
I think there are a lot of options, I am not sure which will work best. Commercial sprinkler systems have good rain sensors. Those usually have a cork or other material inside which expand when wet and switches a simple on/off switch. It may work, but could react to rain too slowly. I would also try a zig-zag like PCB rain sensor. Those are available everywhere. Keep in mind that they may not last for long, so install it in a place where it is easy to replace. And if you will use your own home automation you can flash the shelly to Tasmota and use the hidden pins on the back to connect to GPIO0 so the shelly 2.5 can handle the rain sensor as well, does not need a separate device.

The only downside that the Shelly will no longer know the actual position of the blind. If you lower the blind with the Shelly and pull it up with the remote and want to lower it with the Shelly again nothing will happen since the Shelly thinks the blind is already down.

I am not sure I understand: you can create a scene if the actual power draw in watts goes above, or drops below a certain value. For example if you have a motor connected, and the motor is working very hard you can shut it down. But you cannot create scene based on the power consumption like in watthours or kilowatthours (which is the power consumped over time).

Unfortunatly these switches are not momentary switches and these can't be changed. So in fact I just need only one output, but both inputs (one at either switch). @@hyperspaced77 Yes very good point. You are correct. My only point would be that a Shelly 1 has a 16A relay, the Shelly 2.5 only 10A relay per channel. In the past I usually dismissed this difference, as I don't have a lot of devices that draw more than 10A. But there is a reason for this ratings: if you have 16A circuit breakers in your house, the breaker is not going to protect the Shelly 2.5 if there is an over current. With the 2.5 you can only rely on the software over current protection to protect it. These are those "let's hope it never happens" moments.

@csongorvarga 3 года назад
This does not have the RF part. I don't know how your shutter RF receiver is integrated to the actual motor, but the best solution would be if you could connect the Shelly directly to the motor. So the shelly can control the motor directly and you could also use the RF remote for manual control. There are a lot of ifs here and probably a very involved DIY project. Unless the blind motor and the RF receiver/controller is a separate unit, but in most cases it is integrated.
