There are many more Shelly Ann in Jamaica! Jamaica schools spend too much time on Academics. A lot of kids don't get any opportunities from Academics. Academics are far and few. Good Academics people are not staying in Jamaica anyways. All trades are in short all over the world ,as the population trade people age. Principals are lazy and lack vision coming from Educational ministry. Send out people to the school to scout for the Shell- Ann's and Ussain's they exist and they are many. Give children and parents home to stop young boys from becoming gunners and scammer. All they can see is hopelessness, lack of self-esteem,self love and motivation. Young people needs dreams and possibilities. These Athletes are inspirational.

It is not really a dialect but a form of English. Slaves in the island much like slaves in the deep South had to learn English as best they could. They used their African Dialects because it was the only one they knew and mixed it with English words. There is a similar dialect in Mississippi where five words are one big word and is said at super human speed. Dialect is the rhythm in which we speak a language. English or a language is composed of words. When mixed like this, it is a form of English mixed with an African dialect. Case and point saying "Come me Home" "No woman no cry" "Me glad for Shirley Ann" or anything else is VERY appropriate in the native African Language because to translate them into English would end up saying most of the phrases heard in the deep South and the island. CASE AND POINT: In Spanish, Me llamo English suppose to mean "I speak English!" In reality, "YO" means "I" and "Me" means me. So they are saying "Me Speak English!" I live practically in Mexico, and it is common for them to say "Me no speak Ingles!"
