Glad to find your channel! I am from the ADK. Cold Brook was my Great Aunt's home I spent a great deal of time with her. That was the last place I lived in Ny. My education got me a fantastic job in fl. Am I sorry I moved..Maybe? I have had a wonderful life in the ADK, and in Fl.. Mt great Aunt worked at Raquette Lake at one of the great camps I spent a ton of time with her. I loved her so and left one job in Fl to come home to the ADEK to take care of her until she passed..

Welcome! When we moved here from Long Island two of our kids moved to Florida and one moved to California and they love where they are. We just can’t leave the mountains though…so we understand your memories. There’s just something here that’s not like anywhere else😊

Im glad the shelter logic survived long enough to protect the waterproofing material. Im sure the frame won't go to waste. There are so many options. Honestly, this is a great video on the life of most potable shelters in the homeowners market.

Thank you! We are happy it made it as long as it did...and we are definitely planning to use the frame, just trying to figure out the most economical, but sustainable way! More to come :-)

I have two Shelter-Logic units. The first one I purchased at a farm supply outlet store was a 12 X 20 unit and it lasted 2 years with little to no issues and we just had it sitting on the ground as you did, and we had the standard thickness cover. Because of the success we had with the first unit I purchases another unit that was a 10X12 unit. It's cover didn't even last a year before we had to use a tarp to help protect the stuff inside from the weather. On the third year we started having large tears in the 12X20 unit so I ordered another cover for them both. this time I did two things to hopefully help the life of the covers. First I purchased the heavy duty Industrial thickness cover for the 12X20 unit and I put a framed floor (on concrete supports) under the frames of both units to help keep them from twisting and moving. My hope is that it will reduce the friction between the frame and cover and help it last longer. One other thing I did, because I had a similar situation getting my tractor in my door as well, I put a 2 foot high wall around three sides of the foundation floor to increase the overall height of the unit. One major issue I had with the new heavy duty cover was it had 2 holes in it (about the size of a nickel) in tow spots right out of the box. I contacted Shelter Logic and filed a warranty complaint and they said they would send me a new replacement. I did this just today, so we will see if they follow through on their promise to replace it. But they did make it pretty easy to file to claim and did not try to worm out of making good on the warranty....at least I hope they make good on it.

Thanks for a quality "real life" video. I'm considering a tent shed and this is helpful. I'm fortunate that I already have two very heavy duty 8'x22' tarps and think I will cover the roof right away to hopefully avoid the UV damage to the original cover.

Going my 3rd day doing it by myself because I couldn't wait for my wife to help me put it up. Got mine from Temu. Similar to ShelterLogic but at fraction of the cost for ShelterLogic price. Hopefully it will last as long.

Suggestion - RU-vid "Tiny Shiny Home" (search Shelter Logic) used corrugated metal roof panels, screwed to the shelter logic frame, to replace the plastic and turn them into robust, permanent storage. Then they used earth bags for back wall and wood framing for the front wall/door. You folks could use wood for both front and back walls.

I was going to share that too! The wood door turned out well.

I have the same ShelterLogic for about 9 years and have similar experience. Aster few years mI bought several used advertisement tarps (actually sold for per kilogram price) and used one of them to cover the shelter. So I think for about $30 it's covered with a quality tarp, that even after number of years doesn't show any signs of deterioration. I used existing steel rings at the back and one side, stitched pocket on the front side and stamped in rings on the remaining side. If you want to stamp the steel rings into tarp, I recommend to buy a set of reasonable quality with dedicated stamping tool, since working with the cheap rings and hammer is not fun 😊

I used a shelterlogic tent as a woodshed for 4 years. Here in northern Maryland the summer sun deteriorates the plastic quickly and winds from passing tropical storms or category 1 hurricane finish them off. I bit the bullet and put up a pole building last year. No more messing with extra tarps to cover the shelterlogic.

Thanks for posting this - i was about to buy a shelter logic BUT now i'll invest in something more substantial - Only a rich man can afford poor quality - Once to pay for the wrong thing, a second time when you buy the right thing

Depends on what you need. I’m here because I’m buying a shelter like this. I need a shelter now. I can’t afford what I want now. In three years I will be able to afford whatever I want and this costs less than the interest on a loan.

This is a great video it's real world we bought this and this how work for us over time.

I'm thinking the Gable design of the Harbor Freight shelter garage is better to not leak - in terms of the angle run off.

Never used a shelter logic for our house build. We were too cheap. We just kept materials under a tarp and replaced the tarp after it got holes. I think these things are great to get things done as a temporary measure. It's so nice to be able to clean it all out when the project is done, though. The cost is worth it and now you can do something with the frame 😅
@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid
@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid 5 месяцев назад
We did the tarp method a lot too! It's all a learning curve for sure but the frame will definitely not go to waste!

I've been skeptical of these shelters in our climate for the reasons you detailed. Here in Fulton County, NY, I see a lot of them around, but I don't think they are made by HF. I think they are more expensive. One down the road from me seems to be holding up well so far, but it's not a cheap one.
@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid
@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid 5 месяцев назад
Yes, there are heavier duty varieties, but definitely more money! LOL We will figure something out because the frame is in great shape.

Dang.... interesting how a tarp on the floor solved the condensation problem. interesting. Because it was too cold from the ground! ? wow
@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid
@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid 2 месяца назад
It’s not necessarily the cold, when the shelter gets heated it evaporates the water from the soil into the air in the shelter and then the water condenses on the walls and ceiling when it cools down overnight. Tarp really solves the problem

hmm, what about putting an earth room over it like your house? I got a free frame that the tarp had rotted, was almost done reinforcing and fixing the frame. After checking the cost to put a hard cover over it. i took it all down till I can fine something low cost to cover it.

What about the smaller grey tent beside it. With the gable roof. How come it hasn't caved? I thought the round tops were better for preventing standing water or snow accumulation?

It’s much cheaper than building a garage, but it does come with its pitfalls. Eventually, I would build a permanent structure.

I'm waiting for..... C/Kathy's Cast Iron Cooking Show Channel on the Woodstove Chicken Whole - Stuffed surrounded by Potatoes, Carrots, and Celery Chili Beans with Ham Hock Carnitas - A Pork Shoulder Roast. Then Chopped up for Tacos Chili Verde / Chili Colorado Tacos..... My mind is running blank of other ""C"" things ( I think it should be K tho ) ...but you get the idea. Remember I'll be watching you this spring for the Zuchinni, Crookneck Squash, and Bush Beans growing out of your house rock retaining walls...... I've been with you since the right before the drilling of your well. I had just submitted my well permit and I was awaiting permit issuance. That's why I found you in a search. Your initial well resulrs scared the Shxt out of me.. . But....My well a few weeks later came in with over 50 gallons a minute....in a area where 3 to 5 would have been considered a ""wonderful whopper"" I can pump 50,000 gallons a day on a 48 ac parcel that was thought to be """DRY""". Weve both come a long ways since then. 😂😂😂😂😂

Oh wow! You were so fortunate. That is great flow on the well....Yes, we had a scary time with the well and it cost us but I have to say that even at only 5 gallons per minute, we have a tremendous amount of storage capacity since we are 680' down! LOL And we had such a tough crazy winter with dad in the hospital for 6 weeks and my daughter being pregnant that we never got a chance to cook on the wood stove once! Looking forward to next winter though :-)

The cost is certainly too high for something that lasts only 2 years. Maybe it could become a greenhouse. Wrap it in chicken wire to make it critter resistant. Cover in greenhouse plastic when it's colder and take it off when it warms up. 🙂👍🇨🇦
