The thing that was wild about Wu-Tang was they infused the "gangster rap" of the West Coast with the "hip-hop flow" of the East Coast before either Coast knew there was a rivalry. 36 Chambers is still one of the best HIP-HOP albums of all time.
@willbill8179
@willbill8179 2 года назад
The rivalry goes back to NWA and Tim Dog. West Coast had gangster rap but East Coast, more specially NY, had hardcore street raps which was based on NY street culture and drug dealing. Wu didn't infuse or was the first. Kool G Rap was on that hardcore street rap that influenced most of 90s NY rappers. Nas used to sound like Kool G Rap when he first came out.

@@ryansalmons5279 Oh Shit ... That had to be crazy.. I can just imagine... holy!.yea i like all types of music too. And as i getting older it just expands even more. And redman.. Never seen any of them live. And not many people listen to them here. Thr reason they know them is because of how high and thats about it. Dang been a min since i watched that movie. Imma have to watch that someday... I watched the remake with lil yachty and DC Youngfly but that really didn't do it for me.. But yea you got to be really into hip hop here to know who they even are. You heard Dollar Dollar Bill Yall...it was a hit song by Jimmy Spicer(R.I.P.) in 1980/81. Thats where that part of the hook is inspired by that song. The Wu Tang Clan are huge fans of Hip Hop which they grew up hearing especially after Studio Recorded Hip Hop Songs became the wave in the culture. Cash Rules Everything Is Around Me is an bacronym(as Talib Kweli would say). Meaning CREAM was already a slang word for money or getting paid, prior to them breaking it down to Cash Rules Everything Around Me. Raekwon, the 1st to rap on this song, says his cousin from Brooklynn coined the phrase, after an episode of the cartoon, Tom and Jerry. Method Mans close friend and fellow member of the Panty Raiders, Raida Ruckus, broke the term for money, Cream down into the (b)acronym. Cream also has the extended phrase, Cash Rules Everything Around Me, but it doesn't RULE ME.> This extended version is for those who believe, that the pursuit of material wealth justifies all and any action to obtain it. It's a reminder, that the song isn't a greenlight to just be foul, wicked and unprincipled in achieving capital. For what shall it profit a man, to gain the whole world, and lose his soul? Just adding on. What little I have, you are welcome to partake. PEACE.

YES. This is my favorite Hip Hop album of all-time. I played the tape for 36 Chambers so much it was starting to sound distorted. This, in my opinion, is how Hip Hop is supposed to be. THE LYRIC (not the hook). Some of their tracks are nothing but verses, which I love. Also, it's so damn raw. Definitely explore every track on 36 Chambers. I recommend Da Mystery of Chessboxin' if you're looking for more Wu-Tang.
