"Shenandoah" - An American folk song of uncertain origin and with no set of lyrics. Here is one of several versions of the song, that draws on the lyrics of another folk song - "He's Gone Away".
The rich and shining baritone voice of Harve Presnell (1933 - 2009) in a beautiful rendition of "Oh, Shenandoah".
From the Album "New Echoes Of The Old West" 1965. Harve Presnell is accompanied by Geoff Love and his Orchestra & The Lisa Grey Singers.
Oh Shenandoah,
I long to hear you,
Way you rolling river.
Oh Shenandoah,
I long to hear you,
Away, I'm bound away
'Cross the wide Missouri.
Oh Shenandoah,
I love your daughter,
Way, you rolling river.
Oh Shenandoah,
I love your daughter,
Away, I'm bound away
'Cross the wide Missouri.
Oh, who will tie your shoes ?
And who will glove your hands?
And who will kiss your ruby lips when I am gone?
Look away, look away over Yandro
Your father will tie your shoes,
Your mother will glove your hands,
And I will kiss your ruby lips when I return!
Look away, look away Over Yandro.
Oh Shenandoah,
I'm bound to leave you,
Way, you rolling river,
Oh Shenandoah,
I'll not deceive you,
Away, I'm bound away,
'Cross the wide Mis-sou-ri.

When I hear O Shenandoah sung by Harve Presnell, I am transported to "Somewhere Else" I get a feeling of sweet sorrow, joy & sadness. I remember and miss people who were important and not so important from the dim past, and I know deep within me that there is "Someplace Else" where they are all waiting for me. Thank you Harve for that beautiful gift that you gave the world. RIP🙏❤

I have read that Harve Presnell was born too late, and I think there is a lot of truth to that statement. With his incredible voice and striking looks, he would have been one of the superstars in the era of the lavish Hollywood musicals. Imagine him in the movie Oklahoma! instead of Gordon MacRae. His rendition of They Call the Wind Maria from Paint Your Wagon is the standard by which anyone singing that great song should be compared. He was an amazing talent.

I beg to differ, @deanburris549. For had Harvey Presnell been born earlier, we'd have missed out on his performance as General of the Army George C. Marshall in Saving Private Ryan, and as the father-in-Law in Fargo.
