I always loved this album and had to special order it from Camelot Music back in the day. This song, written by Dennis Linde who also wrote Callin' Baton Rouge which he mentions here and his Samantha. 🤘
This was probably their best album/CD, full of great songs like this one. I can listen to this album all day. Back when I bought this album I had not heard this song and didn't expect much. By the time it had finished playing the first time, I was hooked on this song and had to play it about 10 times in a row. It's sort of an anthem to the lost glory of the South I guess, although I think the South is doing just fine.
Love this 😀song and I really believe that Marty and the boys didn't even begin to get the recognition that they should have been given!!! Play On Boys!!!✅
I just can’t find this on Spotify. Their best album and I could listen to it endlessly. Bought this on cassette about 1998 in a small shop in Northland, New Zealand and have never seen it since. Doesn’t even come up on most search results.
I had an old red and white bicycle that I put so much work into as a kid; sanded, and painted it black and silver, just to find that in original, crappy condition it was worth thousands because it was a precursor to what became known as a BMX. It was an antique. Didn't matter. What was important was the level of freedom it gave me. When you're twelve and hold down multiple farm work jobs, you need transport! I'd pump this song through my headphones as I was booking as fast as I could to absolutely no place in particular.
I recently started driving for Uber to make some cash on the side. I put together a "mix tape" CD of some country music from this era. In general, when I show up to pick up riders, I offer them an auxiliary cable or offer to change to whatever they want on the radio (which sometimes I end up regretting, but hey, if it makes them happy...). I picked up 3 young guys from a fraternity who were headed to one of the clubs in town. It was a relatively short drive, but I offered to change the music. They said no, it was fine. This was one of the 2 songs that played during the short trip. About half-way through the trip, one of the guys says to the other two, "You know, this music is better than anything we're going to hear tonight." He clarified that it was music with meaning and a message. One of the others agreed and said, "Wouldn't it be great if they played stuff like this at the club?" That left me with something like a feeling of hope for the future. just thought I'd share.
2020 now and it hasn't gotten any better. However, The Steeldrivers, Cody Jinks, Billy Strings, Uncle Lucius, Whiskey Myers, Tyler Childers and Molly Tuttle give me hope. Good music is out there... just not on the radio.
12-7-18 and I swear this tape is still playing in my truck about twice a week. Yep, tape. Yep...from Janie Baker right through Bubba dancing and all, I listen to it every week. I can't let it go.
This is the only real music, these danged millennial's hitting the dislike button are listening to Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran and don't know music and like Hillary Clinton.
