It should be renamed Rockefeller's City as the entire idea/concept of Special Economic Zones in China based on the Hong Kong model was the idea of the Council of Foreign Relations/ Rockefeller/ Kissenger/ et. al. when they brought Deng and Zhou Enlai to the USA in an effort to establish friendly relations and the opening up and development of China (and show them what could be done in China). They went to the USA twice during this period. Beyond that fact, Rockefeller's Bank (Chase Manhattan Bank) was instrumental in/by loaning the CCP $Billions of dollars to build these Special Economic Zones cities, infrastructure, ports, and business. American companies went to China and physically built all the infrastructure also (mainly with Chinese labor obviously), and are still doing so today. Americans, and American companies have been building China literally since the 1830s. My father was a Structural and Mechanical Engineer, Process Technologist, and Project Manager on some of these projects working in China for almost 20 years between 1978 and 1999 out of his 33 year career. And the Rockefeller Family starting with patriarch John D. has been financing Americans (and Chinese) building China since at least the 1860s.

Because China is huge and the competition here is very fierce. Not everyone has the ability to make a living in big cities.
