I trained as a Electrician at Sheppard AFB in 1967, and from there I went to Chanute AFB (Closed now) to train as a Minuteman Missile Electrician for both 44th MMS Squadron in Ellsworth AFB. SD. and onto the 91 MMS Squadron in Minot AFB ND. Discharged in 1975 after 8 years served, I was then hired at Air Products & Chemicals in Western Pennsylvania for a 37 year career, then retiring in 2012. I'd say I had a pretty good 45 year run, thanks to the Air Force and to Air Products. My retirement now is being involved in technical writings, and writing journals just to keep the mind active. I'm a 73 yo, and HE was with me through the whole journey. Thank you lord.
my son is in BMT now, and he is going to be a Electrician. You showed me a good way to live as an Electrician and I hope your God will lead my son to the right way just he did to you. Thank you for share your story. Thank you my Lord.
Lucky you didnt have hall latrines like we did at the 361st 20 years ago. They must have moved buildings there was no external doors to the dorm rooms when I was there.
I went through training at Sheppard between feb-june. I remember the crew chiefs getting in trouble for throwing a massive tire from the gym off the second floor balcony of their dorms lmfao.
It’s been nearly 20 years since I’ve been there. From what I understand a lot has changed. I was in 362 and 360 when the heavies split from the fighters back in 02.
Stationed at Sheppard from Jan. to May 1967. As I recall, slept in an open bay. Chose Charleston AFB from our list of assignments where I spent 2 years. In 1968, I volunteered for Thailand and Japan so in 1969 I was sent to Germany.
I was at Sheppard as well during the great snow storm I left 3 weeks after to come back home to my guard unit I’m so happy I’m gone from there but also some part of me misses Sheppard I made some great memories and met some great people there.
Still to my knowledge visitor's are not allowed, and going off base is not allowed. Having visitor's may be circumstantial at best. That would be a question for leadership.
How does it feel to have a roommate. I know it can be hard sometimes and it might be for me because I sleep early and they can make noise and stuff which can disturb me
Having a good roommate will definitely make or break some peoples experiences. I had several roommates in tech school, all of which were really cool dudes, so I'm thankful for that. Best thing I did was get some earplugs, was a little weird sleeping with them in but it helped big time when my roommates would get up for the day. I was swingshift so I'd be getting out of class at 0030 and they would be waking up at 0400. I slept much better once I got those.
I had gone home for Christmas and drove back, since I was my first assignment was stateside, I decided to bring it back during that time so I could drive to my next base.
Are you kidding me? These are more like hotel rooms! Do they also have room service and housekeeping? I was there in 1966 for Loadmaster school. We had open bay BARRACKS like you’re supposed to have in the military 😬
