What’d you eat for breakfast? John: idk man, we came and ate. How many people in the restaurant? John: idk man, you know what I mean? We had like 200 or maybe even 10. We either walked through the parking lot in or went around, it sucked.
Probably the funniest arrangement of words I heard this interview: "We aint seen a hard enemy in a long time, so like, ok for example I'll pick on navy seals, a navy seal takes a house, naked, with a wheel gun and he walks in backwards....that mofo gona be out there on the instagram teaching that shit next week."
Ritland was not expecting some of the pushback answers..including Navy Seals are fluid and telling him that he was asking stupid questions…😂😂😂 Never seen Ritland get semi flustered before😂😂😂
@@MikeRitland I thought u handled it with class and like always showed what a great human being you are, thank u for all your hard work and all of your interviews!! I always learn so much being a Woman and a civilian there's always lessons that can be brought to my life in them. So thank u!
@xxjoeyt07xx and he loves it and lemme tell u...in real life (took his course and attended a weekend event with him) he's a funny, bust ur balls, live life to the fullest kind of guy! Honestly, a treat to be around!
Took Shreks pistol training course a couple years ago, this man is the most down to earth, chill badass you’ll ever meet. His knowledge of combat is absolutely staggering. Hope to see more podcasts of him.
@Swordofmichael333 seems pretty down to earth especially considering his accomplishments. Not the typical s.f guy bragging. He downplayed how much of a badass he is.
The way Shrek is about the Seal vs Delta thing is always awesome, but Mike just taking everything in stride is amazing because Shrek doesn’t give a shit to tell Seals that Devgru is as good as a mid range SF group lol Mikes a great interviewer.
I’ve not watched every military podcast show but I’ve watched/listened to quite a few and I’ve enjoyed many amazing battle stories. But its really impressive to witness Mike stay laser-focused, poised, and poker-faced as SOB constantly and skillfully hung high-level, top-shelf BAIT
Mike - I've been watching your videos a while. You've never been bad at it. Your interviewing skills have gotten so good. You can tell you pay the guests the proper respect by doing research into some of these questions.
Pray for him. He reminds me of of husband. Very cool while high and drunk. I know for certain, he is is. The sniffles. He did. Please. Many vets struggle.
The sign of a great interviewer is when the interviewer separates his ego from the interview. Mike Ritland is a great interviewer, you can tell Shrek DNGAF and called it like he saw it.
Yeah I mean he's a funny guy I like his personality, but come on man let's hear the juicy stuff, he blows most of these questions off like nobody wants to hear them. I wish he would go into detail more about the things he did at the beginning of the war. I've heard other interviews with some of the other horse soldiers and those guys are awesome storytellers
Tip of the hat to Ritland for his interview skill and patience McPhee def doesnt make your job easy as an interviewer but he is one of the most interesting humans in modern history. Great episode!
Absolutely love this guy. I’m Appalachian, this is what everyone is like here. Don’t care a lick about any bs, doesnt put on a mask. He reminds me of every coal miner here. Love this guy
Well, then Appalachia and Chicago South Siders would get along. Because, he is the stereotypical blue collared South Sider without the accent. He actually doesn’t pronounce Chicago ‘She Cag Ohhh’.
@@slapjuice no dude. I’m an Appalachian, in the deepest part of Appalachia. On the border between Kentucky, Virginia and West Virginia. Where coal mines are the only thing here. I’m much much worse than an Indian. We’re truly the baddest mf’s on earth.
@@IsaacLockhart-t6pHarlan county right here! You ain’t lying. They don’t call it bloody Harlan and make TV shows about this place for nothing. These hills grow some of the toughest people I know.
This has got to be the most interesting interview I have watched Mike conduct, not because the topics are extraordinary, but because getting Shrek to stay on topic and answer the questions is like herding cats. Mike had to have been exhausted at the end.
Shrek tells great stories and has knowledge but he doesn't actually talk much about what he did with Delta. I still always watch his interviews though. Legend.
What a super interesting and impressive guy. He has to have the most peaceful, friendly, and scariest vibes of any of Mike’s guests. In my opinion one of Mike’s most skilled interviews!!!
I think dudes like him can endure so much because they're just naturally high on life, they are happy, humorous, and care free in any situation you could imagine.
John's a ball buster. Typical military sense of humor. Great show and Mike took it as such. John remembers every detail of everything he's done....he just doesn't want to disclose certain things. respect.
my favorite interview I have seen on Mike Drop. Have been watching from the beginning and seen how Mike has evolved. These two met at the perfect time, and enjoyed this from beginning to end. Thank you.
John McPhee is absolutely legendary…. Could you imagine fighting a war with this guy? I’m not sure I’d have it any other way if I had to go into combat. You couldn’t make these characters up. He’s the kind of guy to jump out of a plane without a parachute with a can of beer, to hitch a ride with a parachute that’s already open, just to see if could be done. Poor Mike…. Every time he tries to make this a legitimate interview, McPhee just pulls him right back to his world of dysfunction….😂
Holy fuck balls! That was a great interview. Shrek is an intense dude. I’m hoping to get to train with his company soon. I was locked in for the entire thing. He tells it like it is. No sugar coat. Great job Mike!
As enjoyable refreshing interview I have ever listened to. John is Absolutely American Classic Dude. Many young people should listen and follow his Advice.
You did awesome Mike! Seemed like a tough guy to interview but entertaining none the less. Thank you for all of your hard work to bring us fantastic content!
Sir, I am thinking your brainwave and my brainwave are very similar. What an awesome comment. May God bless America. May God bless you and your family.
Judging by the look on his face, I think Mike would start to think about previous life decisions if he ever had to share a hide-site with the Sergeant Major, lol. I enlisted in '96 also and actually 'met' the sergeant back pre-9/11, he had been in a platoon with one of our sergeants previously. I wasn't even 21 so yeah, he was a very intimidating and imposing figure to a young Ranger and even then I was glad to know that he was on our side. Carpe Noctem Brothers RLTW
Dude, I joined the Army in ‘92. He was spot on about RIP. Then to 1st Ranger Bat. I don’t recall John in there? But, he would have obviously been younger with a high and tight. And, back then the SEALs had a bad reputation within the Ranger Regiment. The common saying was that an average PIR infantry platoon in the 82nd could out perform a SEAL platoon in Infantry skills.
@@philipdru9290 That reputation was EARNED by the SEALs within The Regiment. Hate to say that on a SEALs channel but it's true. It's there for a reason.
@@John-mf1sz There is a reason that reputation exists, and I am proud of the fact that none of us have written a book about our times with specific units during our careers. "Anyone wants to really know what we do...pass selection, otherwise fcuk 'em 'its classified'" was and still is our standard answer. RLTW
Dude goes to get snacks and ends up on the first successful solo mission in Afghanistan 😂😂 i love this entire interview, dude is the most humble down to earth Absolute unit of a man ❤ and so damn funny
Watching for the third time, having a bad day and just needed to laugh and this man has made me laugh the whole time every time. The world needs more real men like these 2. ❤
This guys really personified a dude from the unit. They're nice, cordial, but some of the scariest guys you'll ever meet. I'm just happy guys like this are on our side. I couldn't imagine fighting off a few dozen of people like this.
Shrek is a unique animal 😂 This was a different pace for Mike I'm sure. Great interview. I've seen Shrek on other interviews and this was the best for both. Thank you both.
I don't know what the hell the rest of you are watching but I'm seeing an insanely competent man and operator that has truly been there and done it all. I keep finding myself talking like him after watching this which is super weird but whatever I guess. This is my personal hero.
I heard an interview done by Tim Kennedy Green Beret/UFC fighter and he said this dude was great to work for but a nightmare to the bad guy. Someone you need in a war.
I'm halfway through and Shrek is really a giant dickhead when Mike is just trying to have something more than "yeah man, let's go get on a plane and get after it". He wants the history, clearly, and this dude is just giving the most vague, short, non answers ever. I get op sec and all that but give the pod a LITTLE taste even if it's fucking made up wtf.
@jonathanbell8887 he literally has things he can't answer. Period. John has been on tons of smaller podcasts and never gave as Many details as he did here. He's also got the Shawn Ryan interview he was headed to after this so maybe he was trying to save a lil tea and not waste it all.
Amazing stories and a great way of telling them! So great to how the interviewer is a former pro, so straight to the hard talk about missions, with a "wink and a nod". Felt privileged to hear these guys talk and to share their personal views on Big subjects! A great listen!!!!
@@Thebluesky0311 you have no idea who the fuck you are talking about. You have no idea who this man really is, you dont have the slightest clue what you even witnessing in this interview
Mike great job pulling info out of the sheriff! Shrek has so much info in that brain and pulling it out is so important seeing as we have very little from our last deadly warriors in Vietnam.
This guy is as close to the image of the unfazeable, gallows humour SAS guy as I've seen from the US. Exactly the kind of guy you want beside you in a firefight, breaking out some jokes at the same time. Busting this interviewers balls aswell😂
