Santa Monica, June 4, 2024: Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputies and Metro Armed Security conducted a comprehensive sweep of the Metro train system today, with a special focus on the downtown Santa Monica Station. This daily operation aims to ensure passenger welfare and uphold public safety standards.
Metro Security checked passengers' tap cards to verify fare payment. Several passengers who had not paid the fare were issued $75 citations.
During the sweep, a Sheriff's Deputy and his K9 partner walked through the metro searching for explosives. The K9, trained to detect high explosives, can identify body-worn explosives and concealed firearms from a distance of around 50 yards.
An abandoned electric bicycle was discovered on board the train by security. The Deputy checked the serial number to see if the bike was reported stolen. It was not listed as stolen. Metro Security placed the bike into the lost and found area.
At the downtown Santa Monica Station, Metro Ambassadors, the Metro Outreach Team, and The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Mental Evaluation Team (LASD MET) were present, offering outreach and assistance to riders.
The LASD MET provides crisis assessment, intervention, and targeted case management services to diffuse potentially violent situations. They prepare documentation to assist in the placement of persons with mental illness in acute inpatient psychiatric facilities or to link them to outpatient mental health services or appropriate community resources. Each team consists of a deputy sheriff and a DMH licensed mental health clinician who is Lanterman-Petris-Short Act (LPS) designated to initiate involuntary acute psychiatric hospitalization, in accordance with the Welfare and Institutions Code (WIC), section 5150 or 5585. The goal of this co-response model is to reduce use-of-force incidents, hospitalizations, and unnecessary incarcerations of severely mentally ill individuals. LASD MET also provides in-service training for de-escalation, crisis negotiations, and reducing incarceration of mentally ill consumers.
Metro Ambassadors support riders on Metro buses, trains, and stations, connecting them to resources and reporting maintenance and safety concerns. They are part of a multilayer plan to improve public safety, which includes security and law enforcement, homeless and mental health outreach workers, and cleaning crews.
Metro Homeless Outreach Teams engage with unhoused riders on buses, trains, and stations, connecting them to resources. These teams are also part of the multilayer safety improvement plan.
The downtown Santa Monica Station serves as the terminal stop for the Metro line, making it a crucial point for authorities to ensure all passengers exit the train upon reaching its final destination and re-tap to continue on the train. This measure addresses reports of some unhoused individuals using the train as a makeshift shelter, remaining on board for extended periods and even sleeping onboard.
Sheriff's Deputies and Metro Security stationed at the downtown Santa Monica Station combine security duties with passenger welfare checks. Their responsibilities include monitoring trains and platforms, enforcing the code of conduct, tackling fare evasion, and upholding the rule of law to ensure safety and security for all passengers.
The increased law enforcement presence at the station is part of a broader effort to address concerns related to criminal activity, instill a sense of safety among commuters, and ultimately restore confidence in the Metro system. This proactive approach is designed to deter criminal behavior and encourage ridership without fear.
Authorities urge passengers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or unsafe situations promptly. In emergencies, passengers should dial 9-1-1. For non-emergency security concerns, passengers can reach security personnel at 888.950.7233. Additionally, passengers can use the train intercom or station intercoms, marked by red signs on station platforms, to alert Metro staff to any incidents.
The heightened security measures underscore the commitment of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputies to ensure a safe and secure travel experience for all Metro passengers, with a renewed focus on the downtown Santa Monica Station as a key point in the transit system.
E Line service hours are from approximately 4:30 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. daily. Trains operate every 8 minutes during peak hours, Monday to Friday. During midday on weekdays and weekends, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., trains run every 10 minutes. Night and early morning service is approximately every 20 minutes daily.

yeah I notice nurses and such using these trains to get to to work or wherever Im glad theyre pretty clean and safe and fairly well maintanined just from what I can tell by watching yet another pretty well done documentary upload. Im also glad Fabian doesnt get too many that wanna trip out about being filmed if THEY'D JUST CHECK OUT his channel and GET TO KNOW the guy they would KNOW he's NOT ABOUT exposing anybody or giving anybody a bad name;because if ya pay attention to his videos Fabian DOES FOCUS primarily on "the badges" and the infrastructure workers such as sanitation and maintenance because THE POINT of him "tagging along" behind these guys and filming THEM is it's a liability and um public relations thing to have a day to day week to week month to month year to year DOCUMENTED BANK of well behaved "authority figures" and MAINTENANCE workers keeping public trainsit safe and usable. It is very unfortunate that siginifcant abuse in the last decade or whatever it may have been HAS resulted in the ushering in of a heavy police presence BUT the good thing is there AREN'T a vast number of "drugged out psychos" on EVERY single train or bus. Santa Monice REALLY DOES at least LOOK like a very nice and possibly hospitable place to at least visit if not live thanks to the combined efforts of EVERYONE from "the badges" all the way across the entire spectrum of people you'll find out there working vehemently around the clock including people like Fabian and yes even Daisy. I know Daisy gets some that like to berate her and try to trash her reputation but she's NOT what she obviously appears to be to her ACCUSERS because they don't take THE TIME to give her the benefit of the doubt and HER opportunity to fight for social justice too. Well done Fabian;well done Santa Monica - hopefully the droughts wont drive everyone to the brink of disaster again (SoCal heck actually the entire western half of north america STILL IS in danger of collapsing due to drought and grid failure and might always be-thankfully some areas of the western especially NORTHWESTERN "states" have deployed beavers to start converting desert into arable land)

@jimo3393
@jimo3393 2 месяца назад
@emilianomartorell3587 No, I think it's great that they are trying to make the metro safe. But I think they could accomplish the same results with fewer people. 3 armed Metro security guys and 4 LA County Sheriff deputies with a dog is a little unnecessary to wake up 4 or 5 homeless people and tell them to leave. The whole policy on the homeless in California needs to change. The homeless problem keeps getting worse, so maybe it's time to try a new approach.

I'm sorry, but that sheriff with the Canine dog is not a good handler. Sloppy, that dog is bouncing all over the place. Bumping into that lady that should never have happened. And the officer turns and looks like what happened like, did she do something? You're gonna start a fight 1 day thinking that somebody pushed your dog. Your dog has no discipline and don't mistreat it to discipline it, take it to proper schooling. I'm so upset because a dog like that, which is the handlers fault, is gonna get things going in the wrong direction one day. Why aren't your supervisors on top of this. I think you are also confusing your dog because you yourself are not disciplined. Just my opinion.

We seldom had trouble with the same person twice, because they learnt we were not there to be abused.

Same in the Philippines, same in the majority of South and Central American countries...oh yes, don't try it on with Spanish or Portugal police either, and don't even think about giving a dark look to police in the UAE and the Arab Gulf States...hey...seems like there's a lot of countries in the world where the lawmen won't tolerate being verbally abused. Even in the US, the UK, Australia and NZ it really depends on the officer(s) you're interacting with at the time...some are going to shrug it off and some are going to hassle you as far as they can push it. We don't have this problem here in London England, the homeless are banned from the trains and in the 1st place they don't have the money to take the. Trains

I can assure you that's complete rubbish. As I write this I am on the Piccadilly line which gas has fall 4G and 5G on it and it was a homeless person putting tissues down on the seats. My clearly expect people to pay whatever for these tissues but no homeless people are not banned from the trains. If they have a ticket they are allowed to travel. They are not allowed to sleep on the property but they are absolutely allowed on the train. Also it should be noted that in the United Kingdom nobody has to be homeless because the local councils have a responsibility for every single person. Every single person the ends up on the street has a right to be helped in some way. I don't understand why the United States the biggest richest country in the world outright has the worst Healthcare and treat its citizens like trash.

As long as the average rent in the L.A. area is higher than the average wage there will be lots of homeless. I experienced this in the 1980s.

These Outreach officers should actually talk to the homeless passengers about the services and maybe have flyers with information. shouting and making one announcement per train isn't welcoming or informative at all.
