That was great Josh! When I first saw the thumbnail, I thought with this soap and the Braveheart thing, that the razor was the Alpha Claymore, but I'm glad it was the Shield. Alien Shave has some awesome soaps and I'm sure this scent will be a winner for them. I'm sure if I smelled it, it would take me right back to that time period, because this was a big scent then. That base is something else and it looked like you could have done three passes just from the residual slickness from the first. These guys are in my neck of the woods and I'm crossing my fingers that they're going to be doing Bazooka in a drop coming up. That's a scent that's right up my alley and something that'll be super fun. Cool razor for sure and awesome that you could do a battle shave with just one razor. The Stomper is great and I do hope he does a version that's pumped up some, with a little more blade feel and efficiency. I do think on the handles if the grooves were twice as wide and deep, that they'd be a lot more grippy. I do have the Zenith Super Soft and that is an awesome brush. It gets rid of bubbles in the lather like magic and I love the softness for painting lather on. Have a great one!

I totally agree, the soap made everything slippery and I kept wishing the knurling was deeper 🤣 I was surprised by the lather, it almost felt like synthetically slippery or something- absolute madness - anything it touched became a challenge to grip. Their glycerin stuff was ok, but their new tallow and goat milk base is on a different playing field (if you ask me) Thanks so much my friend for stopping over and for joining me!!

The thing about a lot of these indie and niche companies (coming from the fragrance world) is that there are a lot of "under the radar" brands that people don't know about because we hear so often about the top players. Like in the designer realm we might hear about Gucci, Emporio Armani, regular Armani, Montblanc, Dior, Versace, Chanel, etc., but there are some brands that are overlooked like a Mercedes-Benz (THEY DON'T JUST SELL CARS) or a Cartier or a Loewe (Spanish clothing brand) for fragrances. But even crazier are indie brands like Francesca Bianchi, Aaron Terence Hughes, Stephane Humbert Lucas, Gallagher Fragrances, and Savoir Faire that only people in the fragrance community know about...and so we have fragrance reviewers and influencers to point these brands out so that more people will know about them and sample their stuff. It's about spreading information so that we can try the stuff out. The thing that I'm not crazy about, though, at least for the soap communities and some brands is that sometimes we have to blind buy tubs of soap to try them and then if we don't like them, we have to find a way to resell them. That's why I like going through Maggard Razors and The Razor Company and get soap samples from them on these various brands so I can try the soap before I commit to a purchase, similar to what I do for fragrances. I also like places like Southern Witchcrafts and Stirling Soap Company because they offer samples, too. Granted, $15-25 isn't a lot of money for soaps, BUT I don't want to get something and not like it and it sits around for months and I can't get rid of it. So that's just something I advocate that more companies try to do to promote better sales in addition to word of mouth and YT influencers.
@SubieShaves
@SubieShaves 4 месяца назад
Samples save hundreds of dollars!! Is it a perfect representation of the product... probably not - but it's close enough to get an idea. I absolutely agree and whole heartedly believe samples should be a mainstay from any company selling soaps. Even if they work with brands like Maggards to make it happen it truly benefits everyone. Right there with ya! Excellently written, thank you for your thoughts and time!

"FREEEEEDOMM!!!" (The line from Braveheart that you probably screamed, because you didn't have to choose between an AC or DE blade for this shave.) Dude, the amount of work that went into the intro makes me feel unworthy to watch. Awesome pics, buddy! If I could make one suggestion on the razor, it would be to make it easy to see which side you're using by a quick glance in the mirror. I don't know if that would be a half polished cap, half annodized, or something similar.

@@SubieShaves Oh, gosh...that wasn't for me as a viewer! I was thinking more about if I got one, I'd be concerned about not realizing which side I'm using. I'm usually half asleep when I shave. I also shave without my glasses, so I'm thinking about how easy it would be to tell which side I'm about to use. I don't know how you can do single side DE shaves. I guarantee if I tried that I'd use the side without a blade!

Great review Subie! I remember you talking about this razor way back when it was just a concept. Mike will be coming out with a brass line of his razors. A polished brass Shield Gem and/or AC sounds perfect right about now. :-)

Asked him! He said there is very limited interest apparently? He used to make a injector razor in Ti it just didn't do as well I guess? They also are a little different in dimensions between brands which I know caused some headaches. I'll keep the idea going and see what he can come up with 👍 Thanks for watching!

Awesome into video and pics. Interesting razor design. How is it finding the DE razor edge? Like when you go next to your beard lining up the edge. Nice shave. I haven't used Alien in awhile but that lather looked awesome. Might have to try them again. Have a great week buddy
@SubieShaves
@SubieShaves 4 месяца назад
Their new lather is WAY better.. league's better to be honest than the old stuff for sure. This one felt totally fine even with the massive side gaps during the passes- but on the clean up pass I was a bit surprised by how much came off. Still thinking through it. I had no problems around my usual trouble spots (especially ears) but then, found each side taking stuff off with the touch ups. Strange to me, but using something like this is bound to have some leaning curves. Overall it's a fun idea, and the cost is low enough at 27$ I think it's worth having, I think it probably just takes some getting used too. Thanks for joining me!

Great video review! How does the aluminum version compare to the other versions? Is there a difference between them? I want to buy a new knife and I'm debating which SE knife to buy: shied AC version or shield SE (I prefer the aluminum version because the low price).. I want to buy the discounted version but I'm afraid (I used to have a Razorok Hook ver. 2 aluminum version that butchered my face. It was aggressive too much and also cut a piece of my skin.). I have the Yaqi open comb and it is not that aggressive and the shave with it is very good but I want to give it an alternative but also to the Yaqi Tachi. I'm looking for a smoother and closer result of course. What do you recommend?
@SubieShaves
@SubieShaves Месяц назад
Very interesting - well for me, the aluminum and his other metals are all similar quality. The difference really is in the feel of each metal and the weight. I love Shields titanium options, but also understand that they are more expensive. His AC razor his going to be a slightly more efficient shave than the Yaqi, but I find the blade feel to be quite similar. The GEM has much more blade feel, and if you have very sensitive skin, may be more than you prefer. Just my thoughts 👍
@idanor38
@idanor38 Месяц назад
@@SubieShaves Thank you :) Regarding the shield SE : I read an opinion on AliExpress that the result with it is smoother than the Tachi. What is important to me is the result, which will be as smooth as possible (aspiration for a "white face".). I have learned over the years that aggressiveness is not a measure of a smooth result and I have had aggressive razors that did not reach the result with more moderate razors.. Regarding the AC shield: I'm debating whether to buy and I don't want to just buy. Are there any differences in the result between it and Yaqi Romulus open comb even aggressively (I just got used to shaving with aggressive knives. Too mild knives never tired me and the result was not smooth enough..)? I have very sensitive skin and despite everything there is no skin irritation or cuts with the Yaki Romulus open comb even if I shave with feather blades...

Hi Subie, what is your favorite AC razor including this one and the Yaqi offerings? If you cant choose, can you at least rank them in terms of shave closeness and comfort? I've been stuck between shield razors, yaqi romulus or yaqi romulus oc. I know Shield aluminium is cheaper than the Yaqi's, but i'm curious about how they fare against each other regardless the price.
@SubieShaves
@SubieShaves 4 месяца назад
Third time I've been asked this tonight - guess the ACs are starting to get some traction! These all have VERY different shave profile's my friend, What suits me best may not work for you very well at all, and I try to avoid saying one is truly better for everyone when that usually just isn't the case. The Money value for the Shield in Aluminum is going to be really hard to top, the quality is there, but it's a very light razor - so - if you don't like light razors it won't be your thing. The Remulus and Romulus are heavy, well made, and like the Shield are on the milder side (the OC does take that up a notch on my skin). Where the rubber meets the road and the difference sits is in the face and profile of the razor. The YAQI cap has more slope to it, more taper, whereas the Shield is taller, and more angular, (think triangle vs hill 📐 🏔️) for shape. I find the angle is a bit easier to manipulate on the shield side (like DE kind of) and the Remulus more like the traditional SE with a specific angle, otherwise it's less close. For me, I reach for the Shield more often - simply because I like the weight and feel of Titanium on my dome. The shaves are so similar, aside from the angle, that it comes down to weight and material for me personally. Hope that helps!

@@SubieShaves Thanks for the detailed response, i usually prefer the razors that are on the lower end of aggressive scale, so i guess Romulus OC might be the choice, although its hard to beat Shield's price
