May 2012 - The fishing industry has a long history in Gloucester, Massachusetts, but recently overfishing has led to a severe decline in the local fish population. In response, government-implemented "catch share" regulations were put in place to stabilize the fish population, resulting in a decline in fishermen's yearly income that put approximately one quarter of Gloucester boats out of business in the last two years. This multimedia project aims to share the story of the Gloucester fishermen and their community as they struggle to continue their traditional livelihood in the face of increasing economic and environmental pressures.
