It's worth noting that Haruomi Hosono, one of the co-writers on this album, was a _really_ important guy in the Japanese music world; he was one of the first rock stars to get big singing in Japanese rather than English via his folk rock band Happy End, then went on a solo career exploring exotica music before co-founding Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO) with future film composer Ryuichi Sakamoto and former Sadistic Mika Band drummer Yukihiro Takahashi. YMO's fame and influence in Japan are often compared to the Beatles (on top of being cult favorites in the west), so with that in mind, Itoi getting to work with Hosono is like if Toby Fox did a song with Paul McCartney. Hosono's appearance here is also probably what led Itoi to provide lyrics for the first two songs on Sakamoto's 1981 solo album Left-Handed Dream.
"roaches are big and i'm a small human being" hahaha this is greater than i thought it would be. it makes me so happy :-) this doesn't need to be popular or recognized, that's not a measure of real success. look at the Mother series itself. real success is expressing yourself completely no matter what (take inspiration from how Itoi wasn't even a musician and yet he assembled people to make the music he wanted to make. nor was he a game developer, and, well), and that your work deeply affects someone positively. if i was the only person who ever listened to this album and felt cheered up after feeling crappy all day, this would still be a success. i love this music. thank God for Shigesato Itoi
I love comments like this. They make no sense and are nonetheless upvoted because of a mutual good feeling it imparts. It goes without saying that popularity/recognition is a measure of success. Popularity is usually an indication of the actual value of the work to society. How many people were influenced by the work. How many people shared the album because it resonated or inspired. This album of a dude singing karaoke has almost no views because it has comparatively almost no value to people and no one promoted it. It made no money, it wasn't successful. Basically, you're a tool and you talk out of your ass.
and thank you very much to the uploader for making this available to everyone online. i would've eventually got ahold of a copy on the strength of it being a music album by Shigesato Itoi, but i really appreciate being able to preview and enjoy it now :D thanks

Bought this when I was 13, and I didn’t like it. Now I’m 26 and I wish I had held onto it because it’s really expensive and rare now, and I like it a lot now that I have more musical context of the Showa era and other stuff. What year did this come out? I didn’t realize it was so old when I got it. Also, my friend has it on vinyl and cd, and I was really impressed.
