Really enjoyed this trip. My wife is from Myerstown PA, smack in the middle of Amish country. Seeing the horse and bugging brought back good memories. We didn't see the hat in the buggy. We both thought it was perfect. Thanks for sharing, blessings to you both.
Y'all showed FROG jam this week and we're showing TOE jam next week.... 😆 We agree that there's no such thing as too much cheese and I've never met a cheese that I didn't like. I also loved that hat! Shawnasi is so pretty, she can pull off anything and it perfectly matched her outfit! Those cheese curds would be awesome battered and fried!!! I want to snuggle that fur baby!!!!!! We love sun chips! There used to be an elderly lady in Dawsonville, Georgia, who made homemade fried pies for every festival and community event. Every tine I see fried pies, I think of her. We will put this place on our list!
Enjoyed tagging along with you guys. I’m a cheese lover as well. We love visiting Amish stores as well, they are always very clean & well stocked. Thank y’all for sharing y’all’s trip with us. Thanks for not being ashamed to say grace over your meal with the world watching. God bless y’all. 🙏🏻😇🙏🏻😇❤️👍🏻
Oh, wow. I didn't realize you were that close. Yes, we went visiting with our church that morning , and just decided to ride up there since the weather was so bad. Didn't have much else to do.
Looks like you missed the Amish doughnuts that they have on Saturdays only. You have to go early on Saturday because they sell out so fast, they are delicious. I live about 50 minutes away and after I saw your video I realized that I am long overdue for a visit. Praying for safe travels for you both, thank you for taking us along.
Love this video. I purchased my puppy from an Amish family at Hamptonville. Her original name was Shiloh for this store. I changed her name to Sandy, for the sand at the beach 🏖 and in the golf course also Olivia Newton John’s character in Grease.
FYI, there are three nice wineries within 2-4 miles of the Shiloh General store. You can get your sandwich here and then go to a winery a get a bottle of wine, and sit outside and enjoy the scenery at any of the wineries, do tastings etc,OR get your drinks at Shiloh and/or bring your own picnic. I've been doing that with family and friends for the last four years; simple pleasures. Amish Outdoor furniture also available for sale.
We have a restaurant here..Hoot Nannie...They do deep fried cheese curds...My goodness, they are out of this world. Taste like deep fried buttermilk.. Makes me drool thinking about it! We have about 15 to 20 amish families living here. One family has a amish shed where they sell some of their wares and baked things. With the baked things here, its bland to me. I got a shoo fly pie and some dinner rolls. They don't use yeast in their rolls, and I was expecting that, i was disappointed. I was looking at their baked goods one day and a man was looking at their pecan pies..Well, they got the top extra done and the man replied...You burnt your pies...lol embarrassed me..He was quite blunt..lol You mentioned liking baseball. We have a home team here...the Owls. June 6th, they will be having church night there and our church will supply the service and the Kids choir will sing..they are precious. Safe travels to yall!
Sorry your bread was dry - I go early and but loafs of their homemade bread early - it’s usually still warm when I buy it - never had bad bread from their - maybe the Bread was sitting out and homemade stuff probably will dry out faster - The baked goods get low fast - here - it’s made fresh and when their out or low - it’s just gone or low till next time baking - they make best sellers - first - so as not to have a lot of wast
Kutzman soda is made in Pennsylvania and widely available online. Amish store........what is Amish about it? The owners are definitely not Amish since there's phone, internet site and electricity. BTW I am not being critical. We love that type store. In our area we have a store that is owned and operated by Mennonites whose church allows for electricity and so on. ENJOYED THE VIDEO!
There is actually only one Amish settlement in North Carolina, and this is it. And if you read about it online, it is one of the few that actually does allow electricity. They are a little bit more lenient than most other Amish communities. But there are Amish in the immediate vicinity. We actually met a horse and buggy on the road.
I've never been to NC and even the drive to the store was interesting. The highway seemed very empty; not many cars, exits, and no bill boards, businesses or houses. At the store I would have liked to see the produce, was there any? I would also be interested in seeing the ingredients and nutrition information. What other regular brand items besides Sun Chips do they sell? Were you going there mainly to buy treats? I only ask because you bought soda, pies, marshmallows, cinnamon rolls with icing, candy, and a sweet BBQ sauce and then said you would definitely go back LOL
We mainly did go to buy treats, but also for the experience and the sandwiches. They had a few regular brand items, like some sodas, chips, etc. You would love western NC
I know Phil (the owner) well. They are good people. You are also in approx 2 miles from a dairy that makes ice cream and milk, the furniture store, the jelly maker and multiple storage building makers. All amish owned.
The only day we've ever gone was a Saturday. As long as they're open, I would assume they have the same stuff. You might want to call them before you go to see what their hours are.
