(CORRECTION! These are 5800 pedals not 5700!)
If this is your first time to one of my videos, WELCOME! It's almost Christmas! WOooOoooOO! (coffee has officially kicked in)
Let's get the nitty gritty out of the way.
Do I recommend knock-off spd pedals? Sure, BUT WITH CAUTION.
(insert Kanye West throwing his hands up meme here, lol)
Shimano 5700 pedals are much older pedals that aren't really around. They've been succeeded by the 5800 and the 7000 series. Unfortunately, I know that not everyone has $100+ to throw at pedals, so sometimes we have to find alternatives. Mind you, I tried purchasing some but was very unsuccessful in finding original Shimano 5800/7000 pedals at a relatively inexpensive price (everything 9 or so months ago was ridiculously overpriced, and it's somewhat leveled out, but things are still inflated more than they were 2yrs ago). IT'S BEEN TWO YEARS! lol
I've stuck with these because honestly, they've been working just fine.
Reasons to even consider them (PRO's):
- Inexpensive (Dime a dozen. You can these everywhere for cheap (some sites will try ripping you off, so be careful...)
- Clip in and stay in (IF YOU USE THE OEM SHIMANO CLEAT, NOT THE ONE THAT COMES WITH THE PEDAL.....)
- Pretty decently made/Overall sturdy (I don't mind the weight. 306g is fine with me. I'm not a weight weenie, so I will work with I can/got....)
Reasons to avoid them (CON's):
- You might get bad pedals off the bat (my first set didn't work, second set worked just fine. I didn't have this issue ever with OEM shimano's, of course this can vary person to person)
- The Cleats that come with these pedals are horrible (nothing much else to say. they seem bulkier than Shimano's cleats and I think that is one of the reasons why they suck and won't stay in place properly)
- Cheap isn't always great/Warranty is basically non-existent (yup, if you buy these, don't expect warranty of any kind, that could be a big gamble for you and might be the main reason you don't want these, but as long as you don't wreck or drop them all the time, from the overall manufacturing, these seem to be okay? but regardless, it's still a con)
Rock Bros/Promend and other sellers have this exact same pedal in this exact same body shape, but obviously with their name on it. A general search will easily bring up multiple.
Rock Bros (just like this one but in black):
www.ebay.com/itm/173445768892...
KOOTU (I have no idea what company this is, but it's an AMZ seller with the same pedal, priced differently):
www.amazon.com/KOOTU-Clipless...
I would provide more links, but honestly there are so many for these pedals. I hope the above just gives you a good idea.
If you decide to buy these, again do so with caution. When I first used these pedals, I took it easy just in case. Months later, still using them, and I'm pretty happy with them. I'm sure I'll replace them some time next year, but as of right now, I can live with them (if it's not broken, don't fix it, lol).
Hope you guys enjoyed the video!
