A very useful video indeed, I have two bikes, one GRX Di2 with BH90 and one with older road levers with BH59 hoses. I now see how important it’ll be not to mix up my barbs when I need to do some work on them! 👍👍

Thanks for the great video, I learned a lot about the different hoses. I need new hose for my rear Shimano Deore BL-M4100 brake on my mountain bike. These brakes were purchased new in original packaging for mountain bike. The hose that came with it has "SM-BH59-JK" printed on it, which would correspond with a road lever attachment according to your video. As I understood your video, the hose may be pretty interchangeable (different internal bore notwithstanding) and it is the affixing hardware that makes the difference? My brakes also came with the black nuts for securing the hose to the lever and caliper vs the silver ones that your video shows for the BH59 kit.

Wish I had know this before setting up my Grx810 brakes. As could only get BH59 hose kit and wanted to swap the hose on rear as set up came with two hoses with connector so swapped back to front and cropped, then added new hose between back brake and lever. After bleeding and adjusting levers from your helpful video the set up seems fine, especially as the front BH90 hose now has a brass 2.3 insert in it. Could replace the rear with a BH90 and fit the BH59 to mountain bike if ever required but not sure will make a difference as seems fine as it is.
@@wishnu2973 Nope, MT-200 is crap. Avoid Shimano resin pistons, they overheat really easy. I'm now with a Shigura combo in front - XT M8000 levers and Magura MT5 caliper, it's simply awesome. Rear brake is XT M8000 lever with a MT520 4 pot caliper.
Thanks for yr tutorial Video! it's a great source to learn some skills so to attempt to run the job w/o bicycle mechanic ( where i Iive it cost an arm and a leg ). I have a dilemma, still related to Hydraulic brake hose, in a nut shell: I need to switch from traditional Road handlebar to flat handlebar. My bike is set with BR-RX810- Brake Caliper that comes with hose SM-BH90-JK-SSR or SM-BH90-J-SSR ( are those two the same ?) and I can't find any suitable brake levers for flat handlebars. Most of "Lifestyles" brake levers require brake hose SM-BH90-SBM or SM-BH90 ( I'm wondering what SBM stands for), is there any other workable options? pls kindly supports.
Do you know what type of BH hose Zoom hydraulic brakes have? When i ask people i get equal different answers and i am fed up. I want to order olive heads and pins and i do not know what to order. I assume they use bh90 or bh59. Or another type?? Can you help? I have the zoom hydraulic brakes HB875-E for my e-scooter. Thanks in advance
Great video. I want to upgrade to road bike cable setup to hydraulic. I have the latest 105 calipers with BH90 hoses attached but the shifters I have are RS505 that, at the moment have BH59 short hoses attached to them (I don't want to use them). I have the barbs and olives for BH90 hoses and I have the nuts on the BH59 hoses where they screw into the 505 shifters. Can I put that together? I'm thinking I can? Sorry for the long winded question.
Road bike, I currently have BH59 hoses connected to Shimano BR-RS785 calipers. Will the BH90 brake hose attach to the BR-RS785? Or does it need a different part. Thank you in advance

I bought a Trek Supercaliber 9.6. It came with MT-4100/410 brakes with the BH59 hose. I changed all the components out and I bought XTR brakes. I tried to just switch the lever and caliber and the braking performance is horrible. It has a terrible shudder. I'm waiting on the BH90 hoses to get delivered.
Did that fix it? It doesn't sound like a hose problem. But I don't know. The 59 tube carries a larger volume than the 90 so I would think it delivers more volume/power. But I guess not.
Hello, This is very useful. I have a post mount frame with drop bar GRX lever. The only caliper that works is Hope RX4 however you did mention that you can use drop bar lever with Bonjo type hose. Hope RX4 caliper is not available any more and so what post mount caliper with what hose will work to get my bike running again?
Can the BH90 connect to a BR-RS785. In any way at all? I know it’s the BH59 that is paired with the RS785, but I need to pair the R8020 levers with the RS785. Is it possible? Cheers Paul
Is there any difference between BH90-JK (silver font) and BH90 (gold font) hose itself? I have to replace my road bike front hose and I have some spare rear BH90 from my old MTB bike with the banjo on one side. Can I use it after cuting the banjo?
Thanks for the video. I’ve got a question. So I’ve accidentally purchased the BH90-SB kit for my road bike before seeing this video. Is it not possible for me to cut off the gold banjo to make it a JK kit? As I’ve tried the black nut to my R7025 shifters and it seems to fit directly on with no problems. So I’d just have to get a black nut for the calliper end, right?
With the road BH90 kits the hose nut is flanged. Does anyone know why this is the case? Often the flanged nut doesn’t fit through internal routing of the bars so it means the ends of the hose needs cutting every time the bars are changed, which is a pain when testing bike fits.
That was a great explanations sir, but I have a questions, my older bike currently use Shimano GRX brakeset and I want to swap the brakeset to my newer frameset but the frameset is IS mount,thus I have to change my brake caliper to mtb style caliper. My questions are, can I fit in the BH90 hose to my mtb style caliper or do I need to change the hose to BH59? If so can the BH59 hose fit in with my Shimano GRX lever? Thanks a lot!
I bought a new bike with the deore M6100 groupset but the brakes that came on it are the M201/200. I want to upgrade to Deore 6100 for my brakes aswell but I don't want to reroute my rear hose as it's a pain! Can I just use the BH59 hose for the M6100 as thier both straight connections? Plus it's cheaper to just get the levers and calipers separate.
Hi GasDoc100, be careful that if you use the BH59 cable and the (golden) BH59 insert, you run the risk of damaging your Ultegra shifters as this combination is slightly bigger than with the BH90 cable/insert combination. Unfortunately, I've learnt the hard way. You might get away with using a BH59 cable and the silver BH90 cable insert, but I haven't tried that myself yet. Hope this helps.
@@mennovandersluiswhy is there a risk of damaging it? The insert is specific to the inside diameter of the hose, not the caliper. Both hoses have the same outside diameter.
@@rommelreyes2209I've damaged my Ultegra 8000-series shifter by using the BH59 insert in a BH59 cable. Cable outer might indeed be the same, but the insert is slightly bigger so it effectively blows the (outer) cable up a little so it gets too thick.
