I will be bring my new gravel bike to SE Asia hopefully towards the end of this year. Sub-compact Shimano 105 group set - 48/32 chain ring, 11/34 cassette. Should be able to climb any hills in NE Vietnam, or Thailand :-) Fingers crossed that Covid is not going to ruin it.

Hey, a new gravel bike Jo, that’s great. I’m really looking forward to seeing it doing some riding together. The gears sound sensible, which is great. I feel that tourism in Thailand is moving forward, and hopefully HK is on top of Covid, so let’s look forward to a trip in Thailand before too long 😎👍🚲🏝.

@@PaintedRoads Ordered the bike in Feb in anticipation of your tours in Dec/Jan. Told there was a 6 or even 9 months lead time. Arrived much sooner than expected. I've told the King of Thailand not to disappoint me with the vaccination roll-out 😜

Great that your bike arrived in good time Jo. I believe there is something of a bicycle shortage globally so you did well. Yep, let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope we can do some riding in Thailand before years end 👍.

Many thanks Joff. I’m particularly chuffed to hear from you as I used to follow you blog during the big penny-farthing world tour; great writing style and photography, inspirational stuff.

Shimano all the way for pretty much the reasons you gave. Out of your own backyard availability is crucial.

Yep, Shimano global availability is second to non. It also occurred to me today that even with the ubiquitous 68mm external bottom bracket, SRAM has this daft thing where the non drive-side BB=bearing has a 2mm smaller ID than the drive-side 🤦‍♂️. Why oh why?

Great video, and Shimano here….needed a jockey wheel and shifter in chiang Mai, no issues at all….stay well….love the scenery.

Many thanks, we are blessed to live where the views are so lovely. Yes, Shimano availability globally is never really a problem; good you got your spares in CM without any bother.

the problem of sram is they are expensive, even for GX level

My brother and I were discussing this just yesterday. Shimano is so much better value, and great quality. I have 12-speed Shimano now, fantastic shifting.
