I love skipping and it's by far my most valued technique. I always wondered if a dc would help or inhibit a skip cast.

Skipping lures in open water often attracts fish from great distances. Skipping creates a reaction strike from feeding or schooling fish. It imitates a fleeing bait fish very closely. Think of a dog seeing his favorite ball come bouncing by when in the mood to play. He will chase after it and catch the ball. Fish will do the same; it is not for just putting baits under overhanging bushes or under docks. The same action of skipping a flat rock is the same as skipping a lure. The difference is the rod tip is the end of your finger.

I'm not good skipping but get better skips when the first impact on the water is closer to my target. It gives it a better, more parallel angle.

Gerald Swindle talks about using 20lb mono to help “push” the bait and not backlash as much. Worth a try to see if it helps.

Also, yoy should consider doing a rolling skip cast. Makes a world of difference. You'll wanna release around the bottom half of your roll as you come back up

I use left handed reels so I can stop the lure very quickly after a skip or any cast in general. Also feels more natural to me since I'm used left hand spinning reels in my childhood.

Nice vid... by now you've probably practiced a lot more and gotten pretty good...may I offer just a couple suggestions that helped me when I first learned to skip. 1. use a one-handed roll-cast 2. once you release the bait on that roll cast and it hits water, keep the rod tip in a slow motion lift as you follow the skipping bait. This helps keep "lift" on the bait as it's skipping across the surface. Once I got these two things down, it came naturally. Thanx for sharing your experience!

I purchased one an I'm sooo ready an to see tour full out review on it... I use mine for panfish on a shimano sensilite rod... Alot of products I purchased based off tour opinion and I haven't been disappointed with any shimano products. I have 6 different shimano baitcasters and 5 rods... Pleaseeee make a casting distance video with diawa's costal sv tws with like a half ounce weight thing that u usually use. I really want to see it because I'm either going to get the tatula elite or the costal sv. I want the costal one but if the elite casts way longer then I'll have to get that one. I just love the look of the costal sv.

When you skip you gotta have the bait lower then how you normally cast. Idk if that helps you a little but yeah it’s about angles and all that math stuff so it being lower will help with angles. Just like when you skip a rock you got to do it low higher won’t skip as good.

Great video, I may look into getting that reel! What's the price point on that? Also what reel would you recommend for pitching? I can't seem to get any consistent distance on my pitching however I never spent more then a $100 on a bait caster also.

I must be doing something wrong I havnt got the skip cast going yet on a baitcaster. I have the SLX DC and have tried. No issues using a spin reel.

Next video needs to be skipping with a non DC, just to see if u can. I believe you can.

Might want to roll cast instead of straight cast. It helps with creating a better angle with the lure against the surface of the water.

So I fish Daiwa baitcasters, preferably what would be the best Daiwa to skip baits with. I've seen the videos you had with the magforce 3D is that the best reel to go with from Daiwa as far as lure control?

Maybe setting a camera on a tripod would be a better angle for the viewers rather than trying to see around your arm. I too am still trying to learn to skip. Have a curado dc for learning.

Your skipping skill is pretty tight! Mine is a mess.

But skipping is OBVIOUSLY a skill a lot of people forget because it takes some practice and learning. My Curado DC and SLX DC have made me a legit skipper out of the gate, the reels help tremendously in my opinion

The key is the have a roll cast to me it looks like your just side arming the cast. Not an expert at all just kind of saying how I skip.
