That song that played during the second half is great. I used to listen to that one in particular a lot during my senior year of high school while riding my skateboard or bike around. brought back a lot of memories

I been playing with a 2000 Trek 1000 lately that has 3x8 Sora shifters. Some of the forums sugest these ST-R500's as a great upgrade, but i'm having trouble finding them anywhere :( Was cool seeing your review of them along with the canyon footage!

Lovely review, thanks for checkin on cross compatibility of RD/FD and STIs. I recently aquired a set of 105 1055 STIs (8speed) and paired them with a long cage DeoreLX M550 RD, no issues shifting a 11-28 cassette. I cannot comment on the FD, since i am using it for a 1x, but so far, no issues!

Thank you for that! That was definitely a detail that deterred me in the past with the "Flight Deck" shifters stating it was good for double and triple cranksets, in my head I couldn't figure out how that worked. But I took a chance when I found some and it was worth it. I'm happy I could provide video documentation of it rather than reading random forum posts. That's awesome to hear though that your shifters work great! Those will be my next shifters I plan on using.

Nice video! The end was kind of emotional even for me who never lived there. Pretty curious where you will be riding after you sattle down. Also those 1. gen Octalink cranksets are notorius for making themselves loose, there is something poorly designed with the spline depth if I remember correctly. Too bad though that on the road groupsets they just skipped Octalink II all together (or atleast on the topshelf components they did).

Thanks for watching another vid of mine! Yea it was definitely a crazy feeling and that was the last time I’ve ridden too. It’s a shake too because some of the cranksets from that era are definitely beautiful, but I just cannot go with it anymore and prefer square taper as I have cranks and a bb that are STILL going strong from more than 5 years ago!

@@newoldsteel Yeah, square taper is underrated for sure. I wouldn't swapped mine out if I wouldn't wan't to try out a compact modern crankset!

yeah ....octalink was an evolutionary dead end and no bike shop near me even stocks them, same with isis....so many wasted cranksets ☹️

Seriously it stinks... Because there are cranksets around that era that are BEAUTIFUL and I love them, but now having personal experience with octalink, unfortunately it's just not worth it. Thanks for commenting though and watching my video I appreciate it!
