Yep. My drag became loose on a mediumish pike. Didnt lose it... but if it was a Bug Musky or Bass, I'd have gone crazy.

The same issue with the drag happens with almost all of my Shimano bait casters. It just suddenly comes loose when you set up your drag earlier that day or night and that's not because of not adding a backing when using braid, the drag just randomly gets loose. I like Shimano a whole lot and they are my favorite reel company but I just hate when something similar to that nature happens.

the drag problem may be the braid line slip on the spool(spool fixed but line rolling)it happen sometimes on big size baitcaster spool with braid,try cover some tape on spool than spool up ,it may help.

Ive had this reel for around a year and a half, and caught around 150-200 pikes, and never had a problem with it. i know a lot of people have had problems with the drag, but ive personally never had this experience. great vid btw, keep up the good work!!

I had the same issue only backwards my Tranx 300 drag was stuck too tight had to give it back to the shop and get a Curado 300 but if the clutch snaps back in place while casting a $50+ swimbait it could snap off and sail away I would freak out

I'm not a fan of the braking system on the Tranx 401 or 301. The size to spool capacity ratio is amazing, and I loved everything else about the form factor and such. But with the drag issue and the subpar braking system, I ended up switching out to Daiwa Tatula 300/400 reels with the T-wing system and haven't looked back. The new Daiwa Lexa TW and the Prorex are the same reels as the Tatula 400 TW.

Added protection? I hope so! Shimano gave me this one at a reduced price because I kept having issues with my 200D and 200B. Every time each failed (often) I'd send it in and the tech would call saying it's all corroded inside and it would cost more to fix than repair! This would occur regularly for a couple of years even though I rinse with fresh water and dry and send in for maintenance every year. The last 200d, a $349 delicate little flower, had a bail spring failure after 30 or so trips. I sent it in and got the same "All corroded inside" bs. How is that even possible? If my new Tranx doesn't hold up then I'm done with Shimano reels. Fine product but not designed for frequent use.

Just got mine - what I don't like is the free spool adjustment. There is no clicking and for jigging I've found I cannot tighten it enough (think hitting bottom and free spool he**) Not a fan of the power handle, think I want counter balanced... I think it is going for sale.... 301HG darn. The Fathom 300 and 400 are on the way for review.

Yooo from Aussie hear ...Just bought this reel for offshore slow jigging looks the goods and feels tough but i just spooled it up and the drag wont back right off its like its only backing off 1/4 off the drag ,,not sure what to do ..

I have the tranx 401 and its literally perfect, whats the difference compared to this reel ? Is it smaller gears or just a smaller spool

Can you please tell me is it okay to put this reel on Westin w3 40-130 gram rod (1.5oz-4.5oz) ? What are the down size lures that Tranx 301 can cast? Like Super Shad Rap weighing 45 grams,will it throw it normally or its to big reel? And its okay to spool it with 40/50 pound braid? Wanna use it for pike lures in that range the rod is...Thx...

There is a ton of drag and spool problems with this reel. Also my 401 does the same thing with the button and I’ve snapped off lures because of it. Basically the 2020 tranx are dog shit. If you can find the older tranx that are 2019 or before then you won’t have these problems. Get a diawa lexa HD instead.
