Nocturne + CRT television = True PS2 experience Seriously, aesthetically I can't think of a game that looks more Playstation 2 than this game. It even features Dante from the Devil May Cry Series
Call it what you will - a revelation from god or a curse of the demon king. The fact remains that our world came to an end. A heretic called upon an unearthly light, and devastation ensued. Chaos crawled out of the depths of the ocean, from the black abyss.
Death upon death... Nothing but death in this barren land. Who can we pray to! There are only demons and fiends here. A voice in the dark beguiles me, “Truth is a mystery, unraveled by the candles’ flames” from The Journal of a Man Who Wandered into Another World
One of the things that made me flinch a bit was the last few seconds of the intro. We see the sillouette of many of our favorite demons, see their eyes glow with power. Then you see the Demi-fiend in the center, glowing brighter than all the others and with a much more fixed and defined form. For a newcomer, it compels the question "what is he?"
@The Axiom That's interesting. I haven't played 4 and Apocalypse yet because i don't have a 3DS so he could very well be. But now i'm even more intrigued to though, i mean, Aleph is the guy who kicked and shot god in the face, it's gonna be pretty hype if Nanashi gets to these levels of badassery.
The game is not much about main character, but yeah, Dante still gets more than he should have. Why? Cuz this is an enchanted re-release of SMT3. Showing off the new stuff.
Thought this game would be easy like the persona series. Or at aleast slightly harder than the digital devil saga series. Boy was I wrong. This game is damn hard!!!
@@user-yi5mt2df5q I cheese my way through all the boss battles. Used I believe Mediation yo absorb the boss MP and HP. When they could no longer use their skills, there was no threat...except for the Trumpeter that match took me forever.
I consider it easier than digital devil saga purely based on that your demons have actual resistances and you don't have to play the guessing game with the void skills
Damn I love this game, I saw it in an outlet shop, was the only copy around, I thought "What the heck, the cover is cool, might be interesting", and whadda ya know, one of the best games I have ever played.
Derek D'Arcy Mine starts from P4, got the craze going and tried Devil Survivor, Devil Summoner 2, and P3. Beaten them all. Then I move to strange journey and got my ass handed, stabbed like pig, and obliterated, rage-quitted for like 4 month before I finally done it in. (with some more minor rage-quits in-between, stupid MA and her stupid instant kills).
This intro brings back so many good memories. I got into JRPGs, console gaming, anime and cosplay from being introduced to just this one game. Sounds weird, but it's true.
@@Comkill117 There's a popular inside joke in the DMC fandom that Nocturne is the true Devil May Cry 2, since that game is universally reviled as the worst in the whole series, and here we have the cool Dante design from 2 in an actually good piece of media.
@@jor4114 Wait there is a devil may cry 2?I thought that it was Devil may cry 1,3,4 and 5.But seriously, for anyome reading this comment, don't even think about playing dmc 2.
True fans don't attack someone for a difference of opinion, especially someone who shares your love for said games/media. That's just counter productive and being a jerk. Realize that opinions are not objective facts, and your opinions are not facts, neither are mine. They are subjective and gleaned through our own experiences, one is no more right or wrong. Please realize this.
@@FshineK Casual Pokemon player from 99 here. It's literal hell, especially since I have to depend on things I always hated about Pokemon: Breeding and skill-management.
@@Caydiem skill management, demon fusing, actual good strategies against enemies, etc basically, actually trying to play well using everything at your disposal
Fucking favorite RPG ever. I just started playing it a few weeks ago again after beating Persona 3. 2nd time through and it's just as refreshing as the first time I played it.
man... i really loves this game. i almost cried when it got broken, but, now i`ve finally got another copy of it, i cant stop playing it. it`s just an awesome game.
I like Voice acting for a game, but there is always something special about not doing it! It feels to give you more freedom to the narrative and you can give the characters their own voice and something appealing about that! And when a game does have a voice acting, it has to be good to be effective with out it, the writing has to be good! Great point, and I just got this the other day, and excited to try it out!
I had played some of the other SMT games but this one had to be one of my favorites so far. I love how dark this one is. Playing P3 or any of the later ones, doesn't account to how well this one was made. In a lot of ways, it's similar to Devil Summoner.... I don't know which one came out first... Hmm... Still, a must game to play for any true RPG style players.
The games after this (mainline smt) never really captured this feeling. The feeling and the look of smt. Grim, dark, solemn, and spine chilling. Filled with power. A despair hanging over the actions and attitude of the characters and world. But still had style, charm and hope.
Same feeling. I feel in love with this one because it was the a it final fantasy. It was dark and brooding with a religious undertone that was basically you get to choose how yiu want things to turn out. Want to save the world COOL want to destroy it COOL want to be Satan's right hand man COOL. Same with the persona series after 3 they went with scooby doo in Japan to thefs...... That's cool what's the crisis.... "well there's a murderer and murder is bad"..... And 5 was just "were rebles..
@@sorrowwrath comparing Persona to SMT is kind of unnecessary in my opinion. SMT and Persona only really share Demons. I love Nocturne and P3/P5's atmosphere and visual design.
SMT : Nocturne... My first love in the SMT games. Oh how I do miss this. I miss seeing all the demons move in 3D, as opposed to 2D drawings. Wish they brought it back, even if it was for handhelds.
The bosses that gave me a hard time in this game are: Matador (At first), One of the rider that guards the save point, Trumpeter ( I miscounted a few time and that cause me to lose), I would love to say Beelzebub but due to the fact I actually beat him with someone that was weak to his attacks, Metatron was a bit tame despite me being level 67 at the time but in the end a Focus Provoke Dekaja Deathbound combo was too much for him to handle, I would love to say the 4-5 bosses in the Diet Building were hard but Pierce made them a joke. I can see why the Fiends laugh all the time.
@TheLiidu Story-wise, Dante was hired by the wheelchair-bound man (1:01) to hunt down several powerful Fiends, including the player character. IRL, some staff member at Atlus was a big DMC fan: in exchange for putting Dante in the game, the character designer for SMT drew the designs for Dante and Vergil's Devil Trigger forms.
@SwobyJ Good point. This might be the reason for Strange Journey as well. It's part of the mainline series, and it definitely feels like it too. I think we'll have a lot to which we can look forward when it comes to SMT in the future.
