Highlights from the 20th anniversary celebration of SHINE at the NFSA in August 2016, featuring Geoffrey Rush, pianists David Helfgott and Rhodri Clarke, director Scott Hicks, producer Jan Scott, and writer Jan Sardi.
So nice to see them back together again. Many stars who play famous eccentric people just cut and run after doing their job but Geoffrey is a marvelous human being and it's gratifying to see him having no hesitations about rejoining his "alter ego" for a 20th reunion. It's moments like this that make life worth living.
David doesnt love anybody because he is a very sick man. Healthy people have trouble loving….a sick person has not any ability to love anybody. He is like a child. Playing piano like children play computer games.
Geoffrey Rush was amazing in this epic film. Helfgott put tears in my eyes with his music. Rush was also amazing in the low rated films, such as "mystery men." He is just a great actor with such contrast in character roles, that he makes a positive impact in any movie. Bravo!
Adorable a sick man that you only like because you saw a movie???? Disgusting pseudo-feelings. And he has never been a good pianist. Never. He would have NEVER recorded or played with any professional orchestra if the movie would not have been made. Because he is not good enough for that. But…..the movie…..
Meeting David at the Buttery rehab when I was there made it all the more if an experience I'll never forget, a man who'll make you smile by pure demeanor, a true blessing to our world.
David Helfgott is an amazing and interesting man. His talent is above and beyond many others. Cheers to Geoffrey Rush for hanging around and talking to him. Any person that David talks to can forget about personal space. Lol. But that's part of what makes him so charming.
Becky, you are so sensitive, you make me cry!!!! Can we meet for a drink? Where do you live? You come to my place and I will show you my piano record collection…….
Amazing seeing how well Geoffery did as David. And Just seeing How incredible David seems as a human being. As if The world is not ready or deserving of David. A true Angel of Earth.
like imagine sitting staring at a wall for a week just concentrating on a fucking wall for a week, that would do it, that's hard to do. That's why nobody does this stuff.
Nobody can accept that this is a very sick man. They love the movie and are cruel with this REAL SICK MAN. They want to keep living in the movie. They want to keep having that cheap feeling the movie gives them. Disgusting. Same public loving the Titanic tragedy. They would pay to see sink a Titanic live! The important thing to them is TO FEEL they are sensitive, compasionate people. Like on accidents on highways….they all want to see exactly what happened to feel how lucky they were this time…..
