13:49 "The beat is very Michael Jackson-esque." Coincidentally, it's choreographed by Tony Testa, who choreographed for MJ! It's known before as one of the most expensive choreos in SM 😂

You may have noticed that "Sherlock" felt like you were listening to more than one song because it's a special song that combines 2 songs from SHINee's album "Clue" and "Note." That's why the title of this MV is "Sherlock (Clue & Note)" If you were to listen to the album you would see that they are two separate songs, but when combined they become "Sherlock." So, in the MV you hear the mashup of the two songs. Therefore, you may notice if you watch a live performance of "Sherlock (Clue & Note)", Minho's whisper part in their live performance is different than what you heard in the MV because when they perform it live they chose different parts of "Clue" and "Note" to create "Sherlock" each time. So their performance is never exactly the same, which is one reason why SHINee's concerts are considered one of the best. No matter how many times you have heard a song or seen them perform, you will never get the same thing twice. In SHINee's "Sherlock (Clue & Note)" MV the boys are Sherlock-like detectives who are looking for clues in the spooky mansion. The "ghost" girl -- who is played by Jessica Jung, the former member of Girls' Generation -- is helping SHINee solve a mystery by leaving them clues. At the end they realize that the girl they have been seeing and chasing after all day is actually the girl that was originally involved in the mystery when they find an article talking about her from 1910 and they discover that they must have been seeing a ghost. SHINee are supposed to be detectives, so the choreography has been designed to give them Sherlock-like poses and to show them investigating clues, and taking photos, etc. That is why they do that Sherlock Holmes-style exaggerated march, and why you see them kneel down and draw a line on the floor, and why they hold their hands out like they are snapping a photo, and they have that move that looks like they are brushing dust from their sleeves, etc. And yes, the brand name on the computer was iWatson. Like Sherlock Holmes' sidekick Watson. The computer helped SHINee solve the mystery. SHINee was actually starting a fashion trend at that time. As you may remember, SHINee are known for being one step ahead when it comes to fashion because they are the ones that start the trends in Korea that eventually influence fashion trends around the world. Fashion designers actually covet a chance to work with SHINee, or any of the members individually for that matter, because they know that if they can get SHINee to wear their clothes that they will become super popular. And, yes, this was the era of Taemin with long hair. Although, in the MV, Taemin's really long hair was a wig. If you notice, he only has long straight hair during the dance breaks, but during the story sections his hair is much shorter and kind of curly. However, he really did grow his hair long for a while. Taemin with long hair is one of his most iconic looks. I didn't really like Taemin's wig look, but Taemin with naturally long hair is one of my favorites. (He is actually known for making girls jealous because his hair is so perfect.) Many people thing that Taemin with long hair made him look pretty like a girl, but I actually thing it's kind of a masculine look on him. Taemin's hairstyle also made him one of the most popular of the members with their Japanese fans. This was the era when SHINee really started to solidify themselves as Japanese artists, so Taemin's look had Japanese fans gravitating to them. (SHINee debuted in Japan in 2011 and now they are considered one of the most popular artists in Japan as well.) "Sherlock (Clue & Note)" came out in 2012 -- 4 years after their debut with "Replay." So Taemin is now 18 in this MV. Onew is 22, Jonghyun is 21 and Key and Minho are 20. The choreography for "Sherlock (Clue & Note)" was created by Tony Testa a very well-known "Hollywood"-famous American choreographer who has also worked with some of the most famous artists, productions and dancers in the world, including Michael Jackson. "Sherlock" was the first time SM (or pretty much anyone in the Kpop industry) had ever used a famous choreographer, and at the time, it was the most expensive Kpop production ever. Once again, SHINee were trendsetters and, because of SHINee's skill level, SM became the first to see the value in using a well-known choreographer to help create their dances and to strive for a level of choreography and video production that surpassed anything that had ever been done before. (Now, SHINee -- and numerous SM groups -- have worked with Tony Testa multiple times over the years.) Today it's common place for Kpop companies to have really famous in-house choreographers, and to seek out people in the industry who are really making a name for themselves to choreograph for them, but SHINee was one of the first. If you want to see the choreography even better you should check out SHINee's "Sherlock" dance practice video, or better yet, one of their live concert performances of "Sherlock (Clue & Note)." I recommend their SHINee World Concert IV (SWC4) in Seoul performance from 2015, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-M4pINahBoRY.html. If you think the MV is good, just wait until you see them perform it live. "Sherlock (Clue & Note)" live is on a whole other level.

SHINee's "The Feeling" is a pre-release track as a gift to Shawols for their 15th anniversary, which I am pretty sure will be included on their 8th full length album Hard, set to be released June 26. How I interpret the lyrics is that the song is all about how the members want to feel our light shine on them again and they want to illuminate us with their light again. They are also making a point to let us know that we will always be together shining in each other's lives. One of my favorite lines of the song is, “I’ll be the light you seek even in dreams. Running parallel and right next to you.” Which clearly shows the bond between SHINee and Shawols. All the references in the MV have to do with SHINee's history over the past 15 years and what they have accomplished as a group and as solo artists, etc. For example, the map Minho has is a map of SHINee's history up until now including all their solo debuts, and the shot of the 5 apples falling on the No. 5 represents how they are always 5. I also interpret the "and..." as their way of including Jonghyun and Shawols in on their journey, saying SHINee wouldn't be SHINee without either of them. In the MV you see references to their solo journey, such as Onew searching for his sound, Key searching for his "taste" by taking a bite of the apples, Minho finding his way with the map as he explores where SHINee has been and where they will go in the future (As you noticed, the map starts out tiny, and at the end it has become huge -- every time they show the map it has grown 5 times larger -- representing how their map is constantly being expanded as they accomplish more and more in their careers and lives) and Taemin appears kind of lost as he searches for the right path. I see the plastic bags represent their solo debuts, as well as their connection as a group. The first person we see is Taemin because he was the first one to debut solo and his official color is yellow, then we see and hear Key who is the next of the 4 to debut solo and he is represented by the pink bag because his official color is pink, then Onew is represented by the green bag because his official color is green and the blue bag represents Minho. Some have also said they think Jonghyun is represented by the radio (FYI, his official color is red). In the end, what they were searching for, they find when they're together, which is represented by the big plastic bag floating in the sky, which is pearl aqua color, SHINee's official color. When the big bag explodes it releases all of the colors together, representing how they come together as a group, no longer individual bags. Next we see Key smile as he bites into the apple, Minho looks away from the map, Taemin smiles as he looks into the sky and Onew smiles listening to his headphones. I interpret the meaning as Key found his taste, Onew discovered his sound, Minho found the place where he feels most comfortable as a member of SHINee, and Taemin is no longer lost. Then we see them all looking up at the sky, which we think is them looking up to heaven and acknowledging Jonghyun's presence as the sun that shines down on them. We also see them happily running together, being free and living in the moment. In the end, we see Minho complete the circle, which I see as representing the fact that his solo debut completed SHINee's legacy. At the end we see the five of them together, with Jonghyun represented by the radio, as the light shines on them. We see that when they are together they create a light, which shows that they are the brightest when they are together.

Shinee is known to be one of the only kpop groupe who've touch to so many different style of music and still does. They're well respected in the industry by everyone a lot of Kpop idols who came out after them are fan of them and even idols from the 4th Gen of kpop. They've creat almost everything that people know now in kpop, first hard dance choreography, the video practice was them too, they're the only kpop groupe who've one of the member who've design a lot of outfit for his groupe, they've Taemin known to be the dancing king of kpop and the MJ of Korea, their leader who can sing Opera, Jonghyun who was known and still is one of the most beautiful voice in kpop (by the industry themself) Original concept etc, they're so creative. ❤

One of the best things about Ring Ding Dong, is that you don't even realize there's a point in the song where they don't use autotune like they do for the rest of the song. This just shows how good they are at vocals. Compare it to other artists who sing with autotune - you KNOW when they're singing without it. But with SHINee, sometimes you can't tell lol They are so vocally talented. Now, the thing about The Feeling...man, that song is just beyond beautiful. The lyrics are so embracing and their vocals make you feel like you're literally being hugged. It also makes me feel like they're telling us Shawols that they missed us just as we missed them, and that they are ready to feel the shine we bring to their lives, just as we feel they bring a shine to ours.

I love the 15th Anniversary song - it’s so beautifully nostalgic. And honestly seeing Taemin smile so brightly in all the recent SHINee content is such a balm to my heart… It’s really good to have him back and see him doing good after all that gloomy enlistment time. And to think that he’s been a SHINee member for more than a half of his life??? I mean how nostalgic and astonishing is that??? I can’t wait to listen to their newest album, it’s gonna be fire, I just know that - 10 songs, different genres, what else can we expect? Thank you for your reaction!

The Feeling is such a gorgeous song. SHINee are so incredibly special to me. My favourite SM group and overall third favourite boy group right after SKZ and Ateez. And this new song just embodies so much of what I love about them. Fyi, everyone else already completed their enlistment. Taemin was the last one. While the others were enlisted, Taemin used that time to really launch his solo career. Then they came back, released their 7th studio album in 2021 with title tracks Don't Call Me and Atlantis and then it was time for Taemin to serve. Which is when the other three did a lot of their solo stuff. But now SHINee's back and this time for good!

In "Everybody" SHINee are supposed to be toy soldiers and they get their energy and power from the fans. So in the MV the "creepy" boy or robot, or whatever you want to call him is supposed to represent Shawols who are using their energy to power the SHINee members up. The boy plugs in the power, which sends the electricity to the grid on the floor where the members are laying and it activates Key, which then sets off a chain reaction that proceeds to activate the rest of the members. The fans power SHINee up with their energy and that's why in the beginning they wake up from the floor and in the end they run out of energy and they disengage and fall back down to the floor to wait for the Shawols to come and power them back up again. All the moves and everything you see, including the way they are dressed, is supposed to remind you of how a toy soldier would look and move. At one point you see Minho give the members an energy boost by pulling Key's pull string, winding Jonghyun's windup key, using a defibrillator to jumpstart Taemin and activating Onew by turning him on with a remote control. In the middle of the performance, where they come together and create that picture in their dance, they are supposed to look like an airplane, that's why Onew spins his arms round really fast like the propeller of a plane. The plane has to do with the fact that they are soldiers and they are depicting a scene from a battle during the Korean War. And the chess board is showing how they are soldiers engaged in battle as they advance across the board. It's a metaphor for how life is full of a series of moves and countermoves. Similar to the scene in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets where Harry, Ron and Hermione have to play the lifesize wizards chess game to get to the Chamber of Secrets. Yet again, SHINee are trendsetters, EDM Dubstep was a new style of music and sound when "Everybody" came out in 2013, and they introduced the genera to the Kpop industry. And combining that with popping, locking and robotics as part of the choreography was also new. (This song and MV was one of the many reasons why SHINee won artist of the year at the Melon Music Awards in 2013, which is one of the biggest and most prestigious awards in Kpop.) And yes, 4 out of the 5 of them have major high notes in "Everybody." That is what makes SHINee so mind blowing. :D If you like this choreography, than you have to check out the dance practice for "Everybody," ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GUf7hbpmFLg.html. Make sure you click on the CC button so you can understand what they are saying at the beginning of the practice. This is one of SHINee's most iconic dance practices. And if you want to hear the Japanese version of "Everybody," check out their performance at their SHINee World Concert 2014 at the Tokyo Dome in Japan, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-P_VJ_flgEVo.html. This is considered one of their most intense and difficult dances and yet they are able to dance just as hard as this, all while singing live and killing it the whole time. Fun fact: Every time they performed this song as part of a comeback stage performance their military-style outfits were a different color. They even had an aqua blue version that was the same color as their fan color. SHINee's comeback stage outfits are some of my favorite of any Kpop group, and they are different every time they perform, but they always stick to the theme of the song or album so it's fun to see every one of their performances just to see what their outfits look like each time. In your free time look up some comeback stage performances and see what I mean. "Married to the Music", "Dream Girl" and "Everybody" were some of my favorite eras.

Maybe someone has told you already, but "Sherlock (Clue + Note)" is actually a combination of two songs, "Clue" and "Note" from the same album. SM loves doing this (SuperM's "One (Monster & Infinity)" is a combination of SuperM's songs "Monster" and "Infinity"). I think it's amazing that the producers can take the best parts of two songs not written to go together and create something so soaring and anthemic and perfect

Don't know if other Shawols have mentioned this (probably), but the plastic bags really just remind me of the plastic bag scene in American Beauty. In the scene, a character who records simple, beautiful moments in everyday life shows another character his film of a plastic bag 'dancing' in the gentle wind. A piece of garbage, waste, littering a common street, isn't beautiful in anyone's opinion, usually, but he captured the movement of the bag as if it was conscious and dancing alone. Always loved that scene, and although I don't think it's an intentional reference, I like how the bags are made beautiful and bright and 'alive' in The Feeling MV. The character in the movie saw freedom and life in that plastic bag, and SHINee's bags are the same in that sense, feeling alive, SHINee feels alive. Besides that movie, I'm thinking we use plastic bags every day, we fill them with food, sustenance and nourishment, and if we consider Shawols' theory that the bags are filled with Shawols' love, well, Shawols use plastic bags for SHINee events, they literally fill bags with their love, lightsticks and plush dolls and keychains and signs. I'm overthinking... the bags lol.

[My interpretation] In "The Feeling" you can see at the beginning of the video how the boys arrive at the white room where they connect with the music in the order in which they debuted as soloists: Taemin (ACE 2014), Jonghyun (BASE 2015), Key ( FACE 2018), Onew (VOICE2018), but Minho still couldn't find his way (his musical identity, his solo debut). So while he was looking for the right path, THE MAP GROWED because SHINee and the members released new music. The members waited for him but then they left clues to guide Minho (apples, as if they were breadcrumbs). Afterwards they went looking for him, found him and decided to go together to finally be all together in the white room where now everyone can connect with the music and the light appears (Jonghyun). Minho debuted in 2022 with CHASE, making all SHINee members soloists ♥

As for the plastic... there are several theories, but personally I think it's about learning to be happy in the midst of difficulties because in Don't Call Me Minho's iconic line is "Sick of All your Trash", maybe it is a message of overcoming. Greetings, I love your reactions C:

Tbh I don’t like Everybody as a song, but that era of SHINee is still one of my favorites! The live performances were AMAZING, and the album contains some of the most creative songs of their whole discography! I love them all excluding only Everybody at the beginning and Colorful at the end 😂

Wonderful to see you reacting to SHINee again. Thank you. A few interesting facts about each song: "Ring, Ding, Dong": This song debut as the title track in 2009 with their 3rd EP, "A Year of Us". Afro-electric is the listed genre for the song. It became so catchy and addictive that the song was banned during SAT testing time in S. Korea. This is a live performance without autotune that is a standard requirement for all new SHAWOLs...lol: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mtFK7FxKdLs.html "Sherlock" (Note + Clue) : This came out in 2012 and became the first hybrid song in Kpop with the melding of two separate SHINee songs, "Clue" and "Note". It's also the second of several successive SHINee songs given the designation of the most difficult choreo of that time period, the first being "Lucifer" in 2010. One of many trends SHINee started that transformed Kpop was starting to advance choreos into more complex, synchronized dances with storytelling aspects. Since Taemin was already proficient in tutting, popping, and isolations, those rarely used techniques were gradually integrated into their choreos. You mentioned the MJ feelings this song invoked. There's a reason for that. Tony Testa is the choreographed this dance. The same choreographer for MJ's "This is It" tour. It is still touted as the most expensive choreo in SM history. No one outside SM knows exactly how much was spent as it's never been revealed. This live performance of the song is iconic and a favorite among SHAWOLs: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-M4pINahBoRY.html "Everybody": This 2013 song introduced the Dubstep genre to Kpop! SHINee, being a very experimental group, is always breaking boundaries and introducing or creating new genres in Kpop. The choreo is the third designated "most difficult" in Kpop and no one inside Kpop ever even tried to cover it until ONF in Road to Kingdom. Even SHINee stated it was the most difficult choreo to perform while singing live -- yet they always did it. Believe it or not, SHINee even kept a promise to "Weekly Idol" and did this very choreo for the show's 2x Faster edition. No one could believe they could do it. The funny thing is that Taemin was grinning ear-to-ear the entire time and totally pumped while Key was totally disgusted, lol...: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Qbxqetha20Y.html Someone said that Key actually wasn't feeling well during the show, so that could explain it. As you said, the choreo represented toy soldiers being brought to life. The most impressive and iconic live of this song was during their 2015 "I'm Your Boy" concert in their first-ever Tokyo Dome appearance. The audience is screaming so loudly it almost drowned out the music, and the staging was nuts: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-P_VJ_flgEVo.html Needless to say, SHINee was regularly invited back. "The Feeling": SHINee's name in Korean means "receiving light". Therefore they are often called shining SHINee. Not only do they receive light, but give it back to SHAWOLs (short for SHINee World), like a reflection or sharing of energy. SHINee told us this song, a pre-release for their 8th, full-length album, "Hard", was a "gift' for SHAWOLs. They sang it for the first time at their recent fan meeting. The song has a message of hope and happiness despite dark times or periods in our lives, in addition to new beginnings as they start the next phase of their career. They will walk alongside us on this journey, as they always have, giving and receiving light to clear up the dark and difficult times. Therefore, there are specific metaphors to illustrate the above point. The map, tiny at first, continues to grow and expand, much like SHINee's career & growth (listing their various songs [solo & group work]) and SHINee World, as there are SHAWOLs all over the globe and this shows there love and appreciation for ALL SHAWOLs spread around the world -- everybody, national and international alike, spreading like fire and ever growing. The plastic bags -- trash -- start off clear and gradually gain color, pastels at first and then burst into vibrant colors that shower the brothers. For me, this is a metaphor that shows you can conquer the "trash" in your life by letting it go and turning the experience gained into something positive and vibrant to restore hope and happiness. Shower that plain, colorless trash with light and it will reflect many different colors -- like a prism (one of their song titles) and then you can find beauty and happiness even in the midst of difficulties, as light reveals all and cleanses. The ending where all the brothers are sitting in a square formation with the recording equipment illuminated by the light shining down on it, for me, represents Jonghyun still being very much the 5th member-brother and an integral part of their music and legacy. SHINee has said there is still music written/left by Jonghyun. I'm hoping we will start to see the realization of it in the future. Thank you, again, for reacting to SHINee. Their new album will be released on 6/26 and a mood sampler for "Hard" just dropped. It sounds quite menacing and mysterious yet awesome! I can't wait to hear it. I hope you will react to the MV coming out soon!

I teared up a bit listening to The feeling, the song is so beautiful, but they being together, happy and being able what they love the most is... I don't think there's a way to explain it in just a few words. Also, there's a reason behind the title of Sherlock, you should definitely check Clue and Note (2 bsides of Sherlock's album). I'm sure it will blow your mind! And yeah, I've seen them perform Everybody live and... no comments. They're truly unbelievable great! Thank you for appreciating their work!😊

ONG, you never fail to have me think of endless theories about the references included in each MV... Quick fact: The guys have told us that the elements they use in their MVs certainly have something they want to show us while others are simply open to free interpretation... Si, here's mine: what if the plastic items are meant to show us that even if we, at some point in our lives, have perceived ourselves as garbage or simply something that doesn't hold a purpose any longer? What if they wanted to say that even people who don't feel confident enough can actually contribute to build up a community of beings that brighten up someone else's existence? Ahhh I really enjoy your explanations 😉

How I interpret the story in SHINee's "Ring Ding Dong" MV is, the song is about a sort of love at first sight and thoughts of that person keep ringing through your head, so much so that you start to become obsessed with them. It's more than just protecting the girl or your love, but it's about wanting to have her all to yourself and not allowing anyone else to come between you, etc. (As the English part of the lyrics says, "Fantastic, elastic ..." because thoughts of that person are constantly bouncing around in your head.) In the MV, if you notice, at one point, you see all the members dressed in white and they are standing in an all white room looking into the mirror. However, the image they see in the mirror is not their reflection, but what seems to be their alter ego or inner self because you see their mirror images with brooding expressions and they have wings. But their wings are not white like an angel who is pure and good, they are grey like angels of darkness. So, maybe this is showing how their thoughts are not a pure and innocent love, but one of passion and possession, etc. You see them in the white room with the white clothes because I see that as showing how they are hiding their true selves -- on the outside people think they look innocent and pure, but once you get to know them they have far less pure intentions. When in their black and red outfits this is more their true selves. The only explanation I can see as to why they are shown lighting the candles without even touching them is a way to make it clear that they are different then what they seem and they may have "magical powers" that can be used to attract the girl and make her theirs, etc. I interpret the butterfly they talk about in the lyrics, and the ones you see them with in the MV, to represent the girl and how she is beautiful, and fragel and flits around in their life attracting them and distracting them, etc and they want to capture her and make her theirs. It is also thought that maybe SM Entertainment is now using the butterfly to connect the storylines between SM's groups. Some theories think that maybe SHINee's butterfly is connected to the butterfly we see in EXO's debut "Mama" MVs from 2012, which could also be connected to NingNing's butterfly in aespa's storyline from 2020, and it could even be connected to the butterfly in NCT-127's "Favorite (Vampire)" MV from 2021, etc. The butterfly is thought to possibly represent the heart of the Tree of Life from EXO's storyline and could be the butterfly that helps aespa navigate through Kwangya in aespa's "ep. 2 'Next Level' -- SM Culture Universe" video, which would help to connect all of SM's groups' storylines together. Although SHINee's storyline my not have originally been designed to connect to anything outside of their group, I think SM has been using things from their older groups' MVs as "happy coincidences" in order to draw everyone into their SM Culture Universe storyline. Beyond that, I don't really have an explanation of anything else that is happening in the "Ring Ding Dong" MV. Most of it I interpret as just part of the aesthetic of what was the new cool think and what they were doing with MVs in 2009. The boys' hair and clothing styles and the aesthetic of the MV was supposed to give them more of a bad boy image, to sort of contrast the fact that when they debuted with "Replay" in 2008 they had a boy next door image and they were given the title as the nation's younger boyfriends -- people had a pure and wholesome image of them -- so they wanted to show that as SM's experimental boy group, people should never expect them to stay the same. SHINee will forever be changing up their image to show many different sides of themselves and all different styles of music and dance. "Ring Ding Dong" was showing a new side of SHINee. This was only SHINee's second comeback after debut, so it established their role as the ever changing and evolving group that was expected to keep setting trends and coming up with new concepts, styles and sounds. Fun Fact: Minho's long hair and Jonghyun's "Lion" hairstyle in "Ring Ding Dong" is such an iconic look. But Minho always hated this hairstyle, LOL. He has never liked having long hair. He begged SM to allow him to cut his hair and it took a few weeks before they would let him do it. They made him wait until they were done promoting for this album because their hairstyles were part of the album's concept. And therefore, Minho has refused to ever grow his hair out again. ;P Also, almost all of SM's boy groups had similar hairstyles during this time period. :D Take a look at Super Junior or TVXQ in 2009. Their hair looked like this too. hehehe. This was just sort of the look for Korean entertainers back in the day. SHINee were setting tends even with their hair. As you discovered, "Ring Ding Dong," is one of SHINee's most popular songs. This song is part of the era when auto tune was brand new and it was the new cool thing that everyone was using in their new songs. SHINee was ahead of their time when this song came out and it blew people away for its sound and style, which many had never heard before. :D This is totally the look and sound that was just becoming the new it thing back in 2009. As others have probably mentioned, "Ring Ding Dong" is such an iconic song and it's so catchy that it has been said that in Korea this song is banned from being played anywhere or listened to during college entrance exam time. When it first came out, students complained that the song would get stuck in their heads and they couldn't concentrate on their studies or on the test. :D This is also one of SHINee's iconic choreographies and it is one of the dances that every rookie group in the industry, both boy groups and girl groups, are required to learn and know, and most have covered the song and dance at least once in their career, even still today. If you want to hear the song without the auto tune then you need to hear them perform it live in concert. Try their live MBC music festival performance of "Ring Ding Dong" in 2016, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_lYurocLpi8.html. SHINee's songs are always way different performed live. You will see how SHINee has grown.
