This would make no sense for a contractor, but for an older single person with no time constraints it sure beats carrying 90 bundles of shingles up a ladder...
All you really need a couple of high school football players they'll have that thing stacked in no time competition between the two gets a lot of s*** done
I used a heavy 2" galvanized pipe cut through the roof at the peak, braced accordingly, and nested in to a wood socket on the attic floor. Since the pipe was only above the roofline by a foot or so, and the length below the roofline was 5x more, it had good lateral strength. Most of the force was downward.
How long did it took you to set it up on the roof and how many guys it took to lift that heavy beam on to the roof. Remember that time is money. I have to say this but I am about to sell a portable unit to all roofing contractors No ladders needed. Anyone interested message me.
I am in my late fifties and took on a 30 square double tear off by myself without any help from anyone, man against roof. The set up time did not matter in my case.
