Shining Force video showing my LV99 Hero battling against the last 2 boss of the game, Darksol and Dark Dragon, solo There's a long clean-up of 30 Armed Skeletons at the start of the Dark Dragon fight so they don't start firing with their machine gun, which ignore my defense stat.
This is played on the Sega Genesis Classics compilation on the Nintendo Switch.

I always wondered why max kept gaining mp if he literally only needs the 8 to use egress

Good question :). I've actively tried to max him reach 33MP (since it's one third of 99, so it looks better than a random number), and then, I've stopped caring LOL

I believe Belials can steal your mp. It happened to me once but honestly that still doesn't seem like much of a reason. At least in the remake you could use supernova to use up your mp.

In another shining force video someone in the comments said that apparently they originally planned for max to cast bolt as well but scrapped it?!?! Idk if that's true or not

Why bother fighting the armed skeletons? Wouldn't the map end if the three heads die?

Yes. But the armed skeleton gatling gun ignore your defense. So if they start coming at you from both sides while you're trying to get down the heads and hit you with Gatling Gun every turn, you'll quickly be dead, even at LV99. With a group, it's not a problem. But solo, you don't want the RNG to play against you.

Wow...the AI was duuuuuuuumb. Torch Eyes and Steel Claws ignoring free shots; retreating to "defend" their boss, but not actually blocking you. And the High Priest ignoring a nearly-dead Darksol to whack you with a plastic bat. At this point in the game, they're good for exactly one thing. I still GREATLY prefer this game to the second, mostly for its better enemy leveling and artwork, but yeah, it's clearly pretty flawed. A real shame they didn't so much refine and improve the series from this auspicious start, as make the graphics uglier and then just abandon the genre once FFT came out and did it better.

I think it might be linked to Agility. The higher the number, the more double and critical I was doing. Though I might be wrong, but there was a direct link between me leveling up and me doing more of those :)

Wow! Did you grind that, or use a cheat? How long did that take and what did you grind on if that was the case? And that salute when he kills that dragon....I didnt know that was in there back when I played this till like my 10th playthrough (haha, this one was a favorite of mine when it released). Its a really cool touch. Hell, I didnt even know there were more than 2 hidden item chests till a couple weeks ago....Too bad all of it is useless except the outfits. If ANY series needs a revival, its this one. A modern epic scale Shining force, with 3D anime style graphics using their trademark artstyle, and especially a 3 game grand story interwoven like 3, would be such a hit in this day and age....Why no one has done so yet is mystifying....I mean damn, EVEN if it was a modern remake of shining force 3 (all scenarios) it would still be hugely successful. To this day Shining force has a baked in fan-base.

It was all done without cheat (I hate cheating anyway). Up until near LV90, Dark Sol and Dark Dragon still gives you a bunch of XP. So what I would do is kill two and an half of the Dark Dragon head, and then Egress. Rinse and Repeat. Once the head starts giving you no XP, I will fall back on the Armed Skeletons in the Dark Dragon fight. A one-hit kill give you 2 XP, there's 15 spawning on each side, so a total of 30. Each fight you're getting 60XP from them. So every 2 fights, you're getting a level up :). You'll reach LV99 in no time. And yes, a TRUE Shining game of the Camelot era would be great :)

By LV99, I think almost every hit becomes Critical 😀

Maybe its a case of confusion with SFII? It happened to me when I replayed this, as Im more used to 2 (which indeed has bigger number) than 1.

He might have just let them die out and never brought them back to life. That saves a lot of time to boost up the XP since you don't have any teammates to take turns.

Darksol & Dark Dragon fight up to LV90. Till then they give good XP. After that, just kill all Armed Skeletons in Dark Dragon fight. 2XP per kill and there's 30 of them. In 2 fights, you get a level.

@@DracMazoku I have played shining force before and beaten it 3 times. I'm on chapter 7 right now for my 4th run, not speedrun tho.

Don't get me wrong I absolutely LOVE this game, but the AI is seriously depressing; main reason why I very much prefer SF2. Still a very easy game, but at least mobs don't just stand there waiting for you to kill them or desperately deal 1 damage over and over to your overpowered tank of a hero, instead of going for weaker characters
