I saw this on sale just now for about $10 and never heard of this series before, your review is so thorough and I’m convinced right away 😊. I love Tales Of series and Ys 8 and this game does look similar so I think I’ll give it a try!
as a fan of the shining series, specifically shining force on the genesis. shining resonance: refrain was always on my list to check out. I keep hoping that one day SEGA will bring back SF series as a great tactics RPG, and since the Shining series on PS2 back in the day, completely butchered the series :( and this game doesn't exactly help, but it's a nice change of pace from tactics to action/adventure.
I was just looking at this game as it went on sale on Xbox and I was curious about it since it’s been in my wishlist for a period. Love a good jrpg nowadays, might have to give this a chance

world's lone shining resonance refrain speed runner here , i have to say what a welcomed breath of fresh air seeing a new review of shining that's actually positive , as there only exists like 1 review others than mine that doesn't shit on the game hard disagree about the music though , shining's ost is quite possibly the overall best video game ost in existence , really confusing why you chose to play one of the custom mini dungeon songs instead of an overworld one , and the song you did play Suna no Shiro is still a fine sounding one , this is on top of the fact that they made a completely unique well made song for each of the 6 different grimoires dungeons which are completely optional also ok at this point i know im not insane , i have seen this review before , but there's no indication i have seen this video before , is this a reupload or something??....

@@adamscottgames It's ridiculous. And my son gives me more games to play! He loves the Fate series, so I had to (first) watch the anime with him & am now trying to make time for the 2 games + the new one about to release next month(?).
Sir, should I buy Tales Of Berseria, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA or Shining Resonance Refrain? Or maybe you have a better recommendation at a similar price, I want to buy it on Steam by the way
All of which are great games and well worth your time. Personally, I'd go with the one that costs least, but you won't be disappointed with any of these!
FFXIV, been mostly on than off in playing it since 2013. I tries starfield but got bored insanely fast, I say that because the lowest playtime I have in any bethesda game since I started playing daggerfall shortly after launch is three hundred hours in F76 with my next lowest play time of four hundred hours in fallout 3. I was enjoying remnant 2 but the player base dropped off fast and for some reason I don't care to play it single player after beating it. I will probably play mainly FFXIV until cyberpunk 2077 PL drops then play that a few hundred hours until I go back to FFXIV while waiting for it's new expansion and for Dragon's Dogma 2 to release.....will probably play the original at some point during that to beat it for a third time. Off topic of your post but like this video I will probably never play 90% of the games you review, I mainly watch your videos because you have to be the most in depth reviewer I have seen. So while I may not be interested in the game you are still very entertaining.
I remember playing the demo of this game and it feeling like a worse version of a Tales game. I left thinking why would I play this when the Tales series exists. Also doesn't help that I'm an old-school shining fan and this game is a reminder that one of my favorite rpg series is dead 🥲
