The fundamental hip actions in Egyptian oriental dance are an isolated drop or lift of a single hip. My fundamental is a very heavy and sharp vertical movement of the hip joint, with a strong use of the thigh and hip muscles to generate the movement, rather than the side muscles of the torso. When performing this movement in Raqs Sharqi it will become more refined with a higher center of gravity and the legs generally closer together.
