A super easy way to get a nice shiny finish on your foam armor.
There are many ways to seal your foam but this is my preferred method and the one i applied to my Shrike Ana build.
Enjoy :D

I’m getting back into crafting for a custom Sith build I’m going to be trying to put together and this was just the video I needed for when I get around to painting after everything had been created. Thanks Wayne!

That's a nice application of the flexbond. Some of the examples I've seen looked terrible and made me not want to try it, but the dilution and multiple thin applications with a foam brush looks smooth.

You should use molotow chrome for your chrome finishes

Hello Wayne! I have silver metallic guide lines i drew on EVA black foam which i will need to cover up. Will the Alclad Chrome airbrush paint cover the lines after i use Flexbond or will i need an coat black Alclad on top of the Flexbond, and then finish it with the silver chrome, or is the silver suffient enough? Thank you very much Wayne.

Is there any way to get it wayyy shinier then this? I’m planning on making a Shadow trooper cosplay and I’ve never actually done anything like it before. Originally costume is meant to be plastic or resin I think. Obviously I don’t have the tools to make such armour out of resin or plastic so I’m gonna have to use foam. Do you have any tips on making black painted foam look SUPER shiny?

You can try experimenting with high gloss 2k clear coats however that will probably crack when bend or stressed

one way, is 3 layers of plastidip glossifier over the black plastidip. leaves an amazing finish, but glossifier only bonds to plastidip, so any detail paint will need to be applied after. OR you can just vaccuform the shadow trooper costume. Print the armor templates in paper, pepakura, then make it rigid by glazing the paper with fiberglass resin then building the strength with strands. Body filler to fix all imperfections. You can vaccuform here, or just use the already rigid armor as your cosplay. Its heavy, so I dont recommend it. All of this depends on your pocket. If you have money or not, cause even with waynes method, its going to take money. lol

Hey that is SO CLEVER? I was looking for a flexible primer that I don´t have to spray outside with (because neighbours) but also doesn´t have to be expensive, but I really didn´t want to get brush strokes on it, so combining them is even better. I don´t own the foam brushes but do you think it will cover just as good even with a normal brush?
@WaynesWorkshop
@WaynesWorkshop 2 года назад
normal brushes can work but try to cross stroke when layering, so layer 1, stroke left to right, let dry, layer 2 stroke top to bottom, let dry, layer 3 stroke left to right etc etc. that lessens the visibilty of brush strokes with normal brushes.
@michaellyrakisvamvoukakis4130
I'm thinking you can make a foam brush with a piece of Eva foam or other sponge we use for washing plates etc

Wait so after the painting step, would the prop have to be resealed again?

Oh you mean by clear coat, well yes but I chose not to for this one but you can always go for a thin layer of rattlecan clear coat or a clear coat by airbrush. Tamiya sells a proper clear

So you’ve retired All-Round Medium :(?
@WaynesWorkshop

not really, they have alot of similarities, it was however easier to record a small bottle of flexbond instead of my big 5Liter jug of medium :P

Got it. What kind of varnish do you use to protect the paint, as well as keep it flexible? Aerosol can is not a good option, since it cracks, right?

Double Tamiya sells a pretty good clear acrylic varnish
