Shiny Relicanth, first phase, underodds. Gaming.
I can't believe I got this amazing shiny first phase. I don't think I've had a reaction like that before. I think I was more shocked at finding the shiny first phase than the shiny itself. This is in my opinion one of the best shinies in the series. It's incredible.
I think this repel trick has been massively overrated in terms of difficulty. I really, really don't think it's as slow as people suggested to me. It was 50-60 encounters an hour if that's any help. I'm now able to drop the repel trick so I can just do normal sweet scent encounters for Clamperl which I've already started hunting.
Just the one target left on this quest!

Relicanth is my most underappreciated Pokémon of all time. Love that you got this! I think shiny reli looks like a world map, and he’s a dream shiny for me in 3rd gen! Congrats on phase 1! That’s incredible!

Grats on the shiny old fish. One of the coolest looking shinies for sure. I like how you said to do another hunt on the side with a repel trick like this, to take your mind off of it. And I agree with you, doing something else while shiny hunting makes it a lot better. I have shiny hunted almost every legendary in ultra sun and moon while watching Netflix and it felt very easy! Major congrats on this shiny! I know firsthand how painful this repel trick can be and you knocked it out of the water, no pun intended :-) I've been triple hunting phase 4 since November of last year (my first phase with the repel trick), saw you started single hunting it on stream, and was blown away by how quickly you passed me up! I just hit 3,700 but I was around 3,000 when you got the shiny the other day. Anyways super glad you got this so quickly, congrats again

Congrats on the shiny! Ever since the first time I saw it, I always wanted to hunt shiny Relicanth in Gen 3. The way the blue on it makes it look like Relicanth is a living map is absolutely amazing design. Now that I finally have a copy of Ruby, a DS Lite, and started my SBQ, I can finally hunt this as one of my targets. But that's a good while away, as for now I am currently on the hunt for my second member, Ralts. Wish me luck!

Hey! Ive been SRing for a shiny starter on my Jpn copy of sapphire ive changed the battery and restarted the game to reset the RTC, but I havent gotten either a shiny starter or shiny pooch after 9000 SRs i know it can be very bad luck but i kinda feel like it isnt should i continue the hunt?

First of all, yes you should continue. If you stop now, you've literally wasted your time. Secondly and to be blunt, 9,000 SRs isn't a long hunt dude. You've seen 9,000 starters and the odds are 1/8192. You have a 63% chance to get a shiny at exactly 8192 SRs and you're a little over that. If you go on to do more full odds hunts in the future, I can guarantee that you will hit higher numbers than that. Look at my channel as an example. I have countless hunts that have far exceeded 9,000 for a shiny. Shiny hunting is a guaranteed outcome, it's just a matter of you putting in the resets to find it. You will find it, you just have to keep going. Make shiny hunting the background task. Watch Netflix, streams, RU-vid etc as you hunt. Try and set a goal of maybe 500 SRs a day or something to stay consistent. Some shinies will be underodds, some will be over. Good luck, don't stop.

Silly question because I plan on doing this hunt soon. Did you just assign max repels to your select button and just go until you run out of your stock of repels and reset the game?

You can't do that in Gen 3. You just go into the bag and apply another once your current one wears off.

Last question on this now that I have it set up. Does your lanturn have illuminate? Illuminate and white flute done stack if I'm correct, in which case is illuminate just better, or white flute? Thanks, man!

Would it not be faster to do a level 30 repel trick instead of 31? That increases the base encounter rate to 18.18% from 8.33%, but lowers the Relicanth odds from 50% to 27.5%, which would still be faster, I think.

Nah not really. It's not even that slow. Average of 2 phases vs average of 4? I know what I'd take every time.
