Second Channel - / mobileinstinct2
Point Estero ran aground in Estero Bay near Cayucos, California. The fishing vessel was heading back to port in Morro Bay when it drifted ashore while in heavy fog. The Coast Guard decided to leave it on the rocks but remove the engine and any fuel on board.

Technically, it's not the salt that's eating away at the boat. It's the salt plus the oxygen. This is why we can excavate old cannons and the like from old warships, and they aren't completely roached. The oxygen levels in the water are far lower than they are when these items exposed to the air and when the iron + chlorine from the water are exposed, ships like this degrade really fast. Not really correcting you, just providing some additional details. This is why boats can last on the bottom of the ocean far longer than those that have run aground and are exposed to the elements.

Cayucos and Morro Bay are super clean and proper. This is more a jewel than it is junk. I’m glad I get to visit this. How many of you viewers get to visit a wrecked ship with your kids and boost their young imaginations.

Wow! Ty. I live about 90 miles east of Morro Bay, but never knew that this existed before you came along. If you keep making your way along Highway 1 north (for traffic info, tune to 740 AM or 106.9 FM, KCBS/KFRC), you'll eventually make it to Fort Bragg. You might find something interesting to record there. I'm not sure that it exists anymore, but there was something that was called the Skunk Train. It ran out of Fort Bragg over to Ukiah. When I rode it decades ago, it stopped at a beer garden in the middle of a forest.

My guess is the front of the hull was compromised probably due to hitting the rocks. That's why there's so much sand inside it they knew if they were going to pull it back out it would sink

Daniel C it’s not really that type of place but yea, there are taggings on the main beach there. This place is literally 100 times cleaner from graffiti than where I live. About 2 hours to the east in the Central Valley. No goodie two shoes but I check any people littering and vandalizing that place. And my place lol

David very true, once it is cut up into pieces it can be worth a few more dollars then ppl think. when we can cleanup all coast lines maybe we can start cleaning up the oceans as well

The thing I find curious is that there weren't a thousand or so seagulls around. I'm 300 miles from the Gulf of Mexico and we've got seagulls on a man made lake in the middle of the city. I'm not surprised that the boat was so thoroughly stripped as marine gear is shockingly expensive. At the risk of nagging like everyone else in the comments seems to be; You have had a tetanus shot, right?

I’ve no idea about that day but it has been EXTREMELY windy in cayucos I tend to see hundreds of seagulls every trip there. I go maybe 5 times a year or more
