Nusa Lembongan is just a 30min speedboat trip from Bali, Sanur.
As the east trade wind is blowing in the Bukit and the spots of Nusa Lembongan needs the same east wind for offshore conditions, we decide to hop Island for a few days.
Yesterday was still small, so Ceningan was working, as this is the Islands swell magnet spot, super fun left.
The swell only kicked in after lunchtime, but the outgoing tide was just perfect for Shipwrecks in the afternoon, before the reef went dry.
Enjoy this short recap!

We still spend some time every year here. Have been going since the mid 80s when it was mostly jungle and 1 boat every few days. You could stay for a few weeks and only see a handful of other surfers. There would be people working over the reef at low tide tending to the seaweed farm. The place is now out of control with tourists and covered in plastic. Real shame but the Surf hasnt changed other than getting a little packed some days. Use to surf it with just a couple of mates. Would do boat trips with Rocky over to scar reef, desert point and supersuck back in the day. No crowds. Have surfed those breaks with just a few friends. Those days were amazing.

@@SurfRawFiles yeah im glad we had those experiences before it became so overly crowded. I remember having to hike into bingin and Uluwatu because there were no roads. Would score bingin for days with just couple of other surfers. Biggest regret was we never surfed Padang. There's plenty of guys who talk about going in the 70s which was before my time but they rave on about how good it was in the 70s . I think the 70s 80s and 90s were the best times. SurfBoards had developed and waves were relatively empty.

I borned in the 80's so I can see the early days of modern surfing could be epic. I still feel very greetful that last year we got to have a similar feeling with uncrowded waves here in Indo, I was never even dreaming about surf empty Ulus or Bingin and so it happend.. Will remember these days forever!

@@SurfRawFiles I bet it's been amazing without the crowds. 2019 I spent some time surfing Lacerations. Wasn't crowded. The local Indonesian surfers were outstanding. I've never witnessed such good surfing before. They were doing huge 360 airs and landing 90%. It was amazing to watch. And power surfing.

Such a great wave. There used to be a stern of a ship sticking up out of the water not far from the take-off spot. Other wrecks in deep water were nearby too as I recall. The water gets very deep, very quickly and the swell can rise and fall rapidly. The ride over from Sanur was in an outrigger with an outboard and took a couple of hours depending on tide and current. Captain Bobbie was one of nature's true gentleman with a great sense of humour. Regarded as hero by the Indonesians, taken too early by a shark when spearfishing (at least that's what I heard later). We stayed with a local family who had built fairly basic but comfortable Losmens right out the front of this break. These wouldn't be there now gauging by how much development has occurred. I think the sea claimed the "luxury" 2 storey hut behind a small seawall. Fishing and seaweed farming were the main source of income as tourism was still in it's early stages. Beautiful people, a beautiful place and magical waves. All the best to the people of Lembongan, Bali and Indonesia.

@@SurfRawFiles There were plenty of surfers who visited this place years before I got a chance to visit. After hearing their stories I just had to experience it for myself. Can't believe how radical surfing has become, with surfers taking on bigger, gnarlier slabs and the aerial games on show. While good surfing will always be just that, we could only dream of what was possible and the progression that has occurred to now. Love the tube riding in your Desert Point clip. Keep the truthful and honest surfing vids coming, scored yourself another subscriber.
