This is my dream, my aunt Yoko has always wanted to take me to Japan and would always show me studio ghibli movies and teach me all about the culture. Shirakawa-go is my dream destination. Unfortunately Japan is very expensive and it’s sort of hard for us to visit. So glad you all enjoyed

We really hope you can make your family trip this year, if not some time in the near future! It’s not every day we meet a 14-year-old who has their sights on a unique destination like Shirakawa-go ☺️ we hope that when you visit it’s as amazing as you have imagined!

This place was on our list to visit during our trip to Japan before Covid hit! Still haven't managed to go but really looking forward to. It's so beautiful and you guys got really gorgeous shots 😊

Visiting this October with my wife and our 8 year old daughter. In your opinion, Takayama or Kanazawa for our 2 night stay ? Kanazawa was our first choice now a little unsure
@LaurenJason
@LaurenJason 7 месяцев назад
So from what we know, Kanazawa being a much larger city gives a more urban feel while still maintaining some countryside while Takayama feels more rural than Kanazawa. Takayama is quite a bit quieter but also meaning less variety for things such as food. For us, we really wanted to escape the city rush and get deeper into the countryside. It really depends what you guys prioritize!

I'd say Kanazawa. The Nohii bus leaves from there too, plus you have the Kenroku-en, the Higashi Chaya district and Omicho market.

I have seen many blogs mentioning the most common locations to visit. Yet no one mentioned the greatest highlight: Going into the marchy woods and getting "abducted" 😁😁😁

what time is the earliest to go to Shirakawa-go? do you think if we arrive at Shirakawa-go at 7am will be too early or people there already start working (meaning, we can visit Shirakawa-go)?
@LaurenJason
@LaurenJason 4 месяца назад
Technically you can go there as early as you want to enjoy the architecture and the natural sights which is really nice early morning without the crowds! However, if you’re looking at the cafes, restaurants, or shops then those will vary quite a bit depending on the shop. We also noticed that the opening times on Google maps for these places aren’t very accurate.

Hey guys, awesome video... Question, I'm planning on going to Shirawakago around March... I was wondering a couple of things and relying on the community for some help: 1-if we stay at the Toyota eco hotel, is there a shuttle to go back/forth between the town and the hotel? (Probably a question for the hotel but they haven't answered yet) 2-we are going from Kanazawa stoping here and then continue to Takayama... Would we be ok buying the tickets for the bus at Kanazawa and then the next leg at Shirawakago? Or buy them all at Kanazawa? Thanks in advance and most appreciated any help...

We unfortunately won’t be able to help answer your first question but for your 2nd question we had no issue booking the ticket to Shirakawago while in Takayama! They seemed to have a lot of tickets available but best to go and book the day prior if possible!

Great video! How long do you recommend exploring shirakawa-go? I'm visiting the town in a couple weeks, but allocated just 5 hours. Do you think that's enough time?
@LaurenJason
@LaurenJason 11 месяцев назад
Honestly yes! That’s about how long we stayed there for and managed to pretty much explore the entire town as you’ve seen in the video! Of course it’d be awesome to stay overnight but any amount of time there is amazing 🥰

Wonderful video. It's been 31 years since my brief visit to a Japanese village, during an eight hour layover at Narita returning to San Francisco from Guam. I loved Japan, the people there were so incredible and humble. This village is amazing, and the rain and clouds add to its mystique. I wish I knew what the background music performer was, and whether there is a youtube link for it. It adds to your videos production values. The fact that both of you acted as guides also makes your video excellent. I met my wife in a Unesco world heritage site, she is now a US citizen, and our daughter is 23 today, 28 years after the first date my wife and I had (she was born five years to the day of our first date, amazing odds). World heritage sites, and those like you who share them, are to be treasured architecturally, and culturally, or for their scenery.

This is such a sweet message and we appreciate your words! We’re grateful for people like you who appreciate the preservation of heritage sites and villages. Shirakawa-Go was an opportunity for us to travel back in time and witness a different side of Japan that we don’t often get to know!
