@@Mark-zk6hw I be wanting to hear from the horses mouth and stop non researching sht and claim I know the truth of what it was. I do my due diligence to know what was going on in and around this era. Cause everything can’t be caught on film.
@@DuhGhost exactly so much to be told I want to see her child upbringing, how was her early years, the focus on her campaign, alot is to be told about this great ♀️👠
She is getting a little older now, so it is up to Af-Am females to get this and much more info out there! Regina King did it and now many more need to step up and server by doing the same. Carrying the "torch" is and honor!
I met Shirley Chisholm at Bethune-Cookmam College in 2003. It was such an honor. She was in her 90s and still distinguished and proud. That was a remarkable moment in my life.
Two years after you met her, she passed away. @ricecost577, You were lucky to have the honor of meeting one of the greatest African American political leaders.
She is the First black woman Elected to Coogress [I lke saying that] and the first to run for the Pres Of USA ,however, a Mrs JOAN WOODHUL app was the first, she was quite a stelth lady off her times and on Wall Street, she wanted FREDRIC DOUDLAS as her running mate, he app declined.
As a lil' man, raised in Far Rockaway...I kept my eyes on her. My folks made me read the NYT...they made me watch the news...they made me pay attention to Mrs Chisholm and Barbara Jordan...they made me watch the Watergate Hearings. And when Shirley ran for Pres. my Pops said "she knows she won't win, but she's blazing a trail so other blacks will have a path to follow to the White House"...lo and behold, Jesse came thru...Sharpton came thru..Barack came thru...and now the black female VP, Mrs Chisholm imagined, is on her way to the WH. Incredible.
You, your class and all of American witnessed amazing grace! Considering the era, who would be so bold and daring to buck the System? Certainly, not an Af-Am female! Madame Shirley, you must admit, was a God send in the midst of all the hate and racism of the time. Not only does Delta Sigma Theta get to pay homage to the Queen, all Af-Am females stand in awe of her grace, intelligence and poise! Now, we have a Vice President (AKA) who has repented this county with grace, intelligence and poise! Shine on ladies...
I didn't know Shirley was this funny. I am about to go down the Shirley Chisom rabbit hole which I should've done a long time ago since I am a history buff and love my black history. Can't wait to see Regina king in the role. Shirley was prophetic with her lady vice president take

As a child, I didn’t watch Ms. Chisholm as my parents had. Now, as an adult, I enjoy listening to the way she spoke so eloquently, confidently and humorously. I appreciate how well she speaks, with pride, of speaking proper English too.
@@sheppiehet5464, she is comparing how people were speaking back then to the way people speak today. I was blessed to have teachers who spoke as Ms. Chisholm. We don't hear eloquent speaking as much as we should. Mainstream journalists do not speak as eloquent.
YES! One fine day America will look TRUTH straight in the eye and pay rightful homage to those many, many Af-Ams who help build, fought and died for and contributed to wealth and success of this nation. God knows...
Blows my mind how this country could elect Trump and not Ms. Shirley for POTUS. No politician alive has a fraction of the courage she had. What a treasure. Thank you, ma'am.
America owes you so much Queen! So much! May you always rest in power with those who fought your fought. Thank you for your service! For you time! For your wisdom on this planet! Because of you, we are a little bit better! All of us.
YES! A real QUEEN who stepped up in an era that was still hostile with unsocialized aggressive behaviors she had to face at every turn in the presence of White America!
I just loved learning about Shirley Chisholm. Loved her tenacity and strength. She made the world a better place and helped so many people along the way.!!
In service to and support of AF-AMs is vital to the survival of the people. Step up and step in to service and support. National Day of Service was a good start!
Shirley is motivation for all of us,that can't use their voice, that are black people and were isolated. She opened the doors for all black women in congress. Even she didn't win and it was really tragedic, she tought us to be crazy and change the world to the best. She even became more popular. She didn't give up. All the politicians that were at the same with her are forgotten. And only she stays in our hearts 💕💖❤ as lesson to continue to fight with unfairness❤❤❤
Such a joy to see when my Caribbean women excel in positions of political leadership. GOD definitely placed her there for a reason during a particular season of time, and she most defintely fulfilled her purpose! RIP Shirley!❤
I was happy to hear they are doing a movie about Shirley Chisholm. I was a young girl during her time and appreciated the fact that a woman who looked like me was bold enough to take on the challenge of being our first woman Black President of the United States. You could not scare Madame Chisholm - no way - she was not afraid of the establishment of men who did not like her. I was so proud to be a woman of color during her time and prayed no one would hurt her.
Just starting watching Shirley I needed to check if Regina got her accent as I thought she had a Trini accent but then fact checked she was born in NY. Father from Guyana mother Barbados. So Regina got her accent right. Will continue watching and poo back again. Great interview though what a Gem.
Shirley Chisholm was Spot On with a Women 1st being a Vice President before a Women becoming The President of the USA. I enjoyed this conversation with her So Much. The Color of her hair looks Really Good on her. I am looking forward to seeing Regina play her in the movie.
+Lechiffresix six I'm 61. No, my first time to vote was 1972 but I was politically aware and active by 1968 when I was a youth volunteer for Bobby Kennedy in the primaries. Thank you.
Kathleen Pfeiffer 61 ? my mistake, No offense but I thought you were in your late 40s max.People that age were barely out of Kindergarten when Mrs Chisholm made history. but you've been involved since the early 70s . you are very committed. We need more of this today.
+Lechiffresix six You just made my day! I thank Lady Clairol LOL. I agree we need that sort of commitment and involvement. Too many battles still to be fought and some re-fought, all our gains need to be guarded. I had hoped things would have improved more by now but that doesn't mean giving up. Being silent and uninvolved make it easier for wrongs to continue.
What a great smart lady👍🏽In 1972 I was a Senior in High School and I was so inspired by her that I wrote a paper on her in my Afro History class. First class lady 🌹
I am just amazed at such a strong woman. Why haven't we heard of her before? The first woman to be a Presidential nominee, incredible. I just love her story and I am grateful that I saw this video.
Blessings are due to an intelligent, cleaver lady who was ahead of her time! She inspired not only AF-Am women, but women in general. Considering her era, who could imagine such a bold and daring act. . .Running for President as a Black female was like God opening up the windows of heaven and pouring us out a blessing to behold! Again, consider the era! Like those before her who put their necks on the chopping block, it was unheard of!
She has the dignity, poise and wry humor of a true leader and survivor! The shame of those so called "representatives" treating her so badly. But history always sets the record straight- she's getting a movie made about her and those others have faded away. You're still a force to be reckoned with, Madame Chisholm!
I was very young when Ms. Chisholm was campaigning. I remember, though, my grandmother thought very highly of her. Now I see why! Such a wonderful, remarkable woman!!!
I just adored her. There is no Kamala Harris, but for Barbara Jordan, Sheila Jackson-Lee and Mrs Chisholm. She is BLACK ROYALTY...and everytime I see footage of her, all I get from her, is deep wisdom, warmth, love, dignity and supreme intergrity.
This movie was an absolutely amazing showing the life of Shirley Chisholm. But like then, we have today Black people black me not supporting the black woman and her endeavors or any black person in their endeavors. We are more against each other today than you all were in her day.
Unity is an issue WE as AF-AM have for face and deal with. It all started in slavery, taught to spy on one another, envy one another, think we were better than one another. Enslave, brainwashed habits are hard to break. Those who would ignorantly say, "Slavery is over!" you are just uneducated in the American Political System of Government. WE must teach our children, at home, church and civic organization bc they will not get it in schools.
this is a woman that change black people and white people thank God for this woman and my she Rest In Peace without her we would be nothing today.and she is Hilarious and Gracious and u are right she is Alex Daniel
My mother had me to do an essay on The great Shirley Chisholm in 1973. During a time when the Public School system only force-fed MLK on "Black History" month. As a result my children were never allowed (by me) to do essays on MLK. They asked me why. I replied " your teacher gonna get, at least 20 MLK essays from the other students. We gonna teach your teacher that the "so-called" "Black" community has more to offer......much more.
What a beautiful soul and Queen of lady! I wish I could have had the honor to have met you Queen, but I am blessed to see this video of you. May you continue to Rest In Peace! I hope to share this video with my children someday.
The formative years of being raised in Barbados.🇧🇧 She still had her Bajan accent. She would be proud to see that Mia Mottley is Barbados’ first Prime Minister and she showed her ability to be a forward thinker. ‘A woman has to vice president before one can become president.’ Kamala Harris.
I'm sorry for what she experienced, though Shirley was a Queen and a soldier. Good to see how stylish, beautiful, funny, intelligent and brave she was to the end. R.I.P.💐.
