Shirley Horn Trio - Our love is here to stay Shirley Horn (vocal) George Mesterhazy (piano) Ed Howard (bass) Steve Williams (drums). Rec. Marciac, France 2002
I was brought up with the songs that Miss Horn sings. What chance do lovers of today have without this music? I hope they have RU-vid. You just can't get this fabulous music on the radio. For shame! 2018 SYLVIA - FL
JUST discovered this remarkable lady of song! With such finesse she glides thru a song and before you know it your feeling it within your soul..........and living it out within your heart! LOVE HER she IS the BEST!
The power and the awe of a sheer Jazz Master. I saw her twice at the Vanguard in the early 90's. Forget your idjit problems and enjoy a trip to Ms. Horns Universe of Music.
Shirley was not playing the piano during this time (late 2002) because she had a foot amputated due to complications of diabetes, but, you can't keep a good one down, and she started playing again in 2004, and recorded one more album, which did not satisfy her perfectionistic talent, and it was never released. She preferred small groups when she performed, but she recorded with orchestras. What a talent, RIP, gifted Shirley!
She not only is a superb musician, but it's nice to see here that she also has FUN with her music, esp. noted at the very end here, after her scat, when she rolls her eyes and playfully sticks out her tongue a bit! She certainly puts her own touch to these great old songs, a very personal giving of herself! Half way through this song, you can just SEE and FEEL the rhythm pumping through her, though ever so slight! She LOVES jazz and it certainly shows! Great lady!
