What's happening, folks! I'm back with another live a-ha reaction from their 1994 performance at Sentrum Scene in Oslo, and this time we listen to "I Call Your Name," originally from their 1990 album East of the Sun West of the Moon, a song that has a soft-spot in my heart due to the presence of some swanky saxophone. So join me for a rocking performance of this early '90s a-ha song. Cheers!
Also I run a Patreon featuring extra content of different types, so anyone interested in supporting what we do here on RU-vid and getting early-access to video-watchalongs and reactions blocked on RU-vid, as well as behind-the-scenes videos, video-reactions, and blooper-reels from my videos, can go here: / shnootz

Saw them perform this live on their 2005 tour in London. Absolute treat of a version even though it had no sax, with Magne playing guitar as well. Then they did this harmony on the outro that was absolutely beautiful. There's a few live versions on YT if you search for 'a-ha I Call Your Name 2005'. Shame it fell off the setlist as this arrangement was the business.

Love the song and the live performance here. Love that sax too, even though I was never a fan of saxophone, but I really loved it both in the studio versions and live performances of the early 90s tours (RIP Siggy). At the end, Magne presents the band - starting with the sax (Sigurd Køhn), as you rightly understood, then Per Hillestad on drums and Jørun Bøgeberg on bass. In fact, as far as I know, most of the "serious" a-ha fans (and the most knowledgeable and influential) tend to prefer the 90s albums and live performances to the 80s ones. 😉 Many consider this phase as their peak, both in studio and as a live band. Morten's voice was also particularly powerful, less "angelic" but rockier and grittier. They really rocked! 😎🤘 Great to see Lucca quietly appreciating some more a-ha goodness. 😻😽

I like the period just before this when Morten’s voice had a bit of grit and was strong and at its most powerful, but it started to get a harsher edge around the time of this performance and sometimes sounded very strained in my opinion, as a singer myself I can recognise the signs of overuse.

@@marjoriemcbride6557 You're right, he strains it a bit too much here and there, and I agree there are concerts with better vocal performances in the early 90s. But the lower tones are amazing, like Shell pointed out in her comment ("But in that gentle dark" and so on...). 😉

I've always loved this song and I saw them in 2005 and it took on a new feel without Siggy on sax (RIP) but was still a great song played well. This song allows Morten vocal highs and lows and (IMHO) is a great showcase for the band. I love Mags piano work on this song and of course Sigurd nails it every time. Wonderful !!!

Epic performance .... RIP - Sigurd Køhn and his son Simen. Both drowned after being struck by the tsunami in Thailand, on 26 December 2004

This is another song I’d place pretty high on my list…if I was forced to rate all a-ha songs, maybe not this particular live performance mind you as it’s not the best one I’ve ever heard, but it’s still pretty good, and I love the sax (Siggy Kohn RIP I believe). I think Morten was beginning to strain his voice by overuse at this period and sadly it shows here. It’s nice to hear the ever ebullient Mags addressing the crowd in Norwegian at the end too!

If anyone ever wants to truly torture me, they could force me to rate a-ha songs. One of the worst forms of torture you could do to me. 😅😅

Hello. Sorry to cover old ground (Im playing catch up on some videos i missed). To your thought on Morten's voice, I think they were on tour for a long time at this point. EOTS tour was long and then recording and then tour again. So I think you are right. Even some of the Live in SA recordings I can hear his voice sounding serrated rather than raspy.

My second attempt at a comment here. RU-vid doesn't like me lately, it seems. 🙃 Will try again.....first off, the interaction between you and Lucca today was funny. I love that "Don't touch me" face and then also how she licks herself right after you touch her. I think it's so funny when they do that. Quite the insult, huh? 😂 Now....🎵Hello Morten, Magne, and Pål. 🎶 You sound sooooo hot here.❤‍🔥❤‍🔥❤‍🔥 Darn Darn Darn....whew! 😅 I would say another "D" word. A three letter one, but would be afraid my comment would disappear. In my previous comment, I was saying how unfair it is that Graham actually said a curse word in the comments a little bit ago and it stayed up. That if I just put two letters and symbols for the other part, I still get taken down. What I did was put the last two letters in quotation marks and what do you know, I was taken down! It's not even a serious curse word. Many don't consider it to be one. Ahhhhh I tell you, someone doesn't like me. I think it's that lady who has been stalking me on RU-vid who said I had "it in" for Morten. She is reporting me. 🤣🤣Anway.... I do get what Marjorie is saying about Morten's voice. I can see that it is close here, but It's not to that point for me yet. I love pretty much in almost any version when he sings "But in that gentle dark" oooooh....❤‍🔥❤‍🔥 and that last "Let me hold you for a while". I will steal a saying my friend says a lot .."Yes Please!" ❤‍🔥❤‍🔥 What can a say...that voice....wow wow wow...It's all that voice....Truly though, the sax does kill it here too. Just as amazing as the keyboards and guitar. Well done, IMHO
