What's up, people! I'm back with another Lucky Dip from original Lucky-Dip benefactor Philip (and supporter of literally more than a dozen deep-dives), and holy smokes, I don't even know what to say. Seriously, I don't do this often, but just watch the reaction, as my experience with this brilliant tune was special (like the tune itself!). So shout-out to Phil, and join me for a top-shelf masterpiece (at least to my ears and brain!). Cheers!
Also I run a Patreon featuring extra content of different types, so anyone interested in supporting what we do here on RU-vid and getting early-access to video-watchalongs and reactions blocked on RU-vid, as well as behind-the-scenes videos, video-reactions, and blooper-reels from my videos, can go here: / shnootz
And those who'd like to support the channel with a one-time donation can do so via PayPal, at billshattner@yahoo.com. Thanks!

Oh, Kim! The ultimate 80's woman! Can't believe you haven't heard of her before

'You came" was another big hit for her that's a perfect pop gem that could have easily been an Abba song,Kim is a big self confessed fan of the Swedes and (as she has said)they were also one reason that inspired her to get in the pop buiseness the night she saw Anni-Frid and Agnetha performing 'Waterloo" in ESC April 1974 in Brighton. Its iresistable catchyness brought her back in the charts again and was also helped by her touring with Michael Jackson.Michael chose her and wanted her to be his supportive act to his European ''Bad" tour. She lately told detailes about that story in her recent Virgin'80s UK Radio interview a couple of days ago, also quoting that was such a shock to be chosen by Michael and how it all happened.

I can´t believe you have never heard of Kim Wilde before! Altough I´m pretty sure you´ll recognize some of her songs, once you´ll go through this future deep dive. Her name is pronounced like "wild". She also did a duett with Nena in 2002.

One of my favourite Kim Wilde tracks! It was really fun to watch your face as the track progressed, seeing you fall in love with it 😃❤️. I'm happy the single mix was recommended to you. It's more powerfull than the album version. The high tones in the 2nd verse which you highlighted as well, are missing from the album version for instance. This was really fun to watch. Thanks! 😃

It was on my mind for a very long time to introduce you to Kim Wilde. She started in 1981 and she has made some fantastic albums and hitsingles. I remember as a teen boy I had a huge crush on her, loved her voice, her hair, her outfit, and of course the music. Kids In America, Cambodia, View From A Bridge, Love Blonde, etc.... I prefer her early years (just how I like Depeche Mode). I was lucky to see and hear her perform all her greatest hits back in 2014 at a beach festival in Bredene (Belgium). That was awesome and she still looked and sounded amazing. Worth a deep dive!

Dame Kim!!!! How exciting. I LOVE Kim. You MUST do more - I'd have sent her to you ages ago but wasn't sure she would be your cup of cha. Yes, it was a Top Ten hit here in the UK and big all over Europe, She had a US number one with another track, a cover of You Keep Me Hangin' On. This from her 1988 album Close, one of her best and it's FABULOUS - the drama, it's wind blown hair, the passion and regret. She knew he was trouble and now she's paying the price for not listening to her head and giving in to temptation. She was the most successful female artist in the UK in the eighties and there is a treasure trove of stuff from her. I'm thrilled you enjoyed it :)

Kim Wilde was huge in the UK in the 80s, and still performing today (as part of 80s revival roadshows with other 80s stars). Probably most well known for "Kids in America" which was used a decade later as a cover in the movie "Clueless" Kim is the daughter of 50s star Marti Wilde who wrote some of her hits and her brother is in her band too. When Kim first emerged in the UK, she was very much promoted as a UK version of Debbie Harry, if not vocally but in looks and attitude, but she didn't have the rawness of Harry or streetcred. She went from "new wave" (If I must categorise it) to pure pop in a few short years.

Oh, wow. I thought we already discussed Kim Wilde some time ago with you here, Matt. But it's great you're so turned on by her powerful voice that this might lead to another deep dive. I do prefer her first two albums as they have everything the early 80's represent: the heartache, the synths, the paranoia (Chaos At The Airport, anyone?), the passion ... but she's done a lot of great stuff afterwards as well. My ex-bf won two tickets for her Berlin show in 2012 including a meet and greet backstage before the concert, and he took me with him. It was really nice. Ten years later I saw her again live in Berlin on her Greatest Hits tour. Still on top of her game, the audience going wild, great voice. Count me in.

Excellent song indeed! You must listen to more Kim Wild! Her brother Ricky is right there with her with the instrumentation and production to highlight her voice. This was late 80's, during that perfect time when think were innovative with the techno-pop vibes, similar to what was also coming out at that time by OMD and Erasure, and PSB like you mention. There's much to dig into with her discography. (Also it's pronounced Wild. Funny, on my maternal grandmother side is the surname Wildes, which we pronounce Wild(s), although one cousin always said "Wil - des" funny how the word can sound so different that way lol)

Her Dad and her brother (I forget his name in the moment oops!) Wrote and produced her songs, starting in 1981 up until I believe the album this song is from called Close from 1988. She had two hits at your side of the pond, Kids in America (her debut single in 1981, which was huge all over Europe) and her High NRG song You Keep Me Hanging On (a Supremes cover). Oh, I had forgotten about Kim Wilde, but I liked her! 😜 Not enough to hear more than the hits I heard on radio and TV, I can't even name other songs except for "Kids in America" (that must be her greatest hit), though I am sure I know more. I don't remember hearing this one, though, but it's really not the kind of song I would remember. 😁 Sorry! Anyway, this was my kind of girl. A cool voice with a slight grit and very sexy without being too "obvious", in my opinion (Hand Solo might help me with a better word 😅).

Well that was worth the 'ticket price' to see the look on your face. 😄 You were pretty much spot on with the focus of the song and it was released 19 September 1988. It was a top ten hit in most European countries but I don't believe it got a release Stateside. Kim is an English singer who has released 14 studio albums between 1981 and 2018. Her father and brother wrote the bulk of her early material up until the mid 80's and influences included; OMD, Ultravox, John Foxx, Gary Numan, Skids, Sex Pistols, the Clash, Kraftwerk and the Stranglers.

Hi Matt and thanks for this. To make a completely inappropriate comment, for me personally, Kim was probably the downright sexiest singing star of the early 80''s. I know that makes me very shallow - but there we are. Daughter of Marty Wilde who was one of the original UK Rock and Roll stars, Kim's is well worth listening to - but you do have to react to 'Kids In America' as an absolute must in her music - one of "The" sounds and songs and videos of 1981!

Now sing 'Never Trust a Sneezer.' I feel like I'm going to start this in the same way as my Madonna comments. I wouldn't say I'm a fan but for this song. I love the music and she sings her heart out. Really nice pre-verb (reverse echo) on her vocals on the word 'Never' (The 12" version has a very cool intro (almost demonic growling !!)). Love the drum sounds. Love the guitar sound. So well produced. This song and 'You came' were huge hits here in the UK. Kim Wilde lives one town away from me.
