I am from USA (Ohio/New York)and give this 10. I saw Sho Madjozi live from SA on tv last Sunday. I was impressed with her talent and likability so I preordered her cd. I like the way you guys give reviews, you have fun while taking it seriously.😎👍🏽
The song is all about a guy who was secretly in love with her but he wasn't confident enough to voice out his feelings... so the girl moved on with another dude then later discovered this other guy (the shy guy was in love with her) so she's like (HUKUNIAMBIA KWAMBA WEWE WANIPENDA) Meaning you didn't tell me you loved me...
This is swahili 'Lakini' meaning 'but' There is a part saying "hukuniambia kuwa unanipenda' meaning "you never told me that you love me" Straight outta Kenya🇰🇪
Thanks a lot for the explanation. We love the song in South Africa but we've been wondering why is she singing about chicken being delicious. I know chicken is delicious. But it's not a relevant topic to talk about when you are talking to your crush. He would be like: Hi. How are you? And she would be like: You are handsome. Chicken is delicious... Not good.
I'm from Kenya and I love this song, especially in Gqom. She did the Swahili flow justice. Huku means "You didn't". Niambia/Niambie - tell me. Hukuniambia Unanipenda - You didn't tell me you love me. I'd give it a 9 to be honest. It bangs!!
Sephula nomsa the whole song is in Swahili and the lyrics and punchlines make sense (in Swahili). So what do you mean?? Can you translate it into your language for us then?
Tsonga people don't understand what she is saying in that song and, I've been confused for such a long time because "huku" means chicken in Tsonga and why would the entire hook be saying chicken. So respect to the ubunifu for schooling me on a song by an artist from my country.
This comment is edited! I would like to make it clear that the song is entirely in KISWAHILI and not TSONGA as claimed by others. I did not really know the artist since i have never heard of her before. I went back to her channel listened thecsong again, dug into her instagram account but could not find her origin.I had expected her to be a Tanzanian since i was sure there is no search name in Kenyan music industry. I have googled about @shomadjozi's life and learnt that she spent quite a long time in TANZANIA though she is of SA origin. Huku is used in the song as a short gorm of HUKUNIAMBIA( you did not tell me) to bring the rythm and flow in the music. and i can confidently say it does not mean CHICKEN as perceived by many TSONGA'S. It would nake no sense to talk of love and chant CHICKEN, CHICKEN, CHICKEN the entire song. So kindly get this clear. I would also wish @UbunifuSpace to make effort and interview @shomadjozi herself to shed more light.
The only people who think the song is in Tsonga are people who aren't even Tsonga. As a tsonga person I knew the first time I heard the song that it wasn't in Tsonga.
"Huku" in this context has been used as a negation, however it can't be used alone therefore she says "hukuniambia" Which translates to "you did not tell me" Oh, and I loved the song, I was taken a back by the accent at first but the song was wonderful nonetheless 😊
Love you Sho Loving the fresh perspective In this day and age we are all shocked to see South Africa and East Africa meet in some form In America, Asia, Europe it's a norm Africa unite in music Let's break down the borders
Her actual name is Maya Wegerif. She is south african and speaks tonga as her mother tongue but also speaks swahili. She is also a poet and makes reference to being able to speak swahili with her mom. From what i understand, this song was a swahili house hit.
she is South African but lived with her parents in Tanzania when she was young , that's how she learnt Swahili..... the entire song is in Swahili.... I know this from an interview she did with a Kenyan radio station... hukuniambia mean you never told me.... thank me later.... love from Kenya
I'm proud Tsonga and yes she normally "raps" in Tsonga...but this is pure Swahili... Google her interview on this specific song...let's not argue.. ni my tsonga hi xiviri
Crazy that South Africans can't get what she's singing and me a Kenyan understands all of it...that's a calculated move to cross boarders ..ofcoz she will get love from East Africa
Hey Brian Learn some swahili FAM. The whole song is on Swahili fluent for that matter... The hook is on point... "Hukuniambia kwamba wewe unanipenda" translation "You didn't tell me that you love me"
Huku means Chicken😹😹😹😹😹💔. I love my country because we can literally make a song out of anything in our different languages and it’ll be fire as hell!😹😹😹😹
If any of you South Africans say this song is in Tsonga.... You are mad ignorant. I am Tsonga and I can 100% confirm that I heard nothing apart from Huku...which means Chicken in Xitsonga. So go figure😒!
Let me help you with the SA languages: Xhosa, Zulu, Swati, Ndebele, Tswana, Tsonga (aka Shangaan), Sotho (Southern Sotho), Venda, Pedi (Northern Sotho), Afrikaans and English.
CHORUS Kusubiri mimi kweli sitaweza - I really cannot wait Unanifeeli, lakini huwezi kunionyesha - You feel me but you're unable to show me Sasa mimi nikihisi unanipenda - I feel that you like me Hukuniambia na ndio maana nilienda - You didn't tell and so I left Hukuniambia - you didn't tell me
Justine Fundi it’s all about context. Huku by itself is ‘here’...but hukuniambia as one word is ‘you didn’t tell me.’ 2 different meanings. But then again ‘hapa’ means ‘here’.....you know what, forget it. I give up. I guess you’d have to be a Swahili speaker to understand me 🤷🏾♀️
