Very Nice Guys. Nice frame saver options. Yep good choice 100 ' X 6,000' for first landing. John you adapted well to the gap seal. That was alot of changes to over come. Job Well Done Sir! CHP A Star in the background sweet. I miss it. Thanks for bringing home.

Great video John! I am planning the same conversion for this Winter. Having never flown a tail dragger I am somewhat nervous and excited at the same time. Kitfox and Shock Monster is an awesome combination. Lets go flying sometime!

Yeah, I hear ya, life gets crazy being a real grown up trying to juggle a RU-vid channel and family myself. Have you ever heard of the Triple J ranch up in Grand Forks ND? It was a great place to just relax and have fun and watch the Jeramyiums grow! Hope all is well John! 😁 Jon

Nice addition.... she looks great. I would like to make a comment concerning safety. Your jack stands are great, but keep the wood shims to a minimum to lower the possibility of the shims from “rolling” off the stands.

Looking good! I just picked up a SuperSTOL, it's gonna be living at LHM for a while. Maybe we can hook up for some flying sometime, if nothing else run up to Nancy's or something.

It's a good look. What did the gear do for your cruise and top end? If you don't have micro VGs, consider that a lower approach speed they afford might help with the AoA needed for a 3-pointer.

I have a Kitfox SS 7 with Lyc. 233 and STI wing also Shock Monster with 29" Alaskan bush tires. Empty wt. at 996 lbs. Wondering what empty wt. is with your plane and pressures you have with tires and shocks. I have 10 psi in 29" tires and 140 psi in shocks. Also my zip ties around the shocks drop down about 1.5 on an average hard landing. Thanks Tom upstate NY

Oh! Does that Plane have Heat and AC ? Probably not AC ay? I see this was 2019 ! Still have the Plane ? And I noticed you have A Sun visor overhead! you stuffed something up there for the Texas to CA. trip earlier! Good Idea!

You will gain back much of the speed loss by fairing that gear, the tires are part of it but most of it is that gear mod. Dan Denny taught me this years ago, on my Kitfox 1!. Nowadays, I have Cub style gear on my Rans S-7s, with a Fox airshock to control the rebound. My A-frames are fabric covered, and the trailing edge of the aft leg is faired. My shock struts are faired, even my cabane! If you reduce cruise... the extra drag also decrease range, glide, and rate of climb. Extra drag, even on our STOL birds is never good especially when it can be easily gotten rid of, my two cents! The TK shock struts are especially draggy.
@portnuefflyer
@portnuefflyer 4 года назад
@@johnkluenker It needs to be half way aero correctly done. I see some Cubs with the A-frames covered, but the trailing edge of the aft leg not faired, that's only doing half the job. Some have taken thin lexan, bowed it, and then zip tied the trailing edge to cover the shock struts, I have all aluminum air foil shaped, and no my gear is almost as clean as the original spring rod gear, which sucked off airport but was low drag at least! I do dead stick ridge soaring......ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8J9v433C0nM.html

@@johnkluenker - thanks, that's what I thought. Trying to decide between the 21 and 22 aero classic. In Ohio and will be asphalt based, so not sure I "need" the 22" over the 21, especially at the price difference.

No Alex Di Sessa gear mod to your original Spring Gear? Do you have the 26" Bush Wheels?

I always used to side slip in with no power, You seem to have way to much speed on after rounding out, Learn how to side slip down as close to the run way, to a few feet from the ground, and round off with a side slip right at round off roll, if you think you can, (when you get good at it you can side slip round out and place one wheel on the ground right where you want to almost stop. It shortened my roll on run way, drastically for short fields. and especially coming in over tree tops. I think it used to break up my ground effect on rounding out. It may scares the hell out of you trying it without a steep descending slow approach this until you can actually do it. Personally I think your coming in way to hot for that plane, It should stop in less then 1/2 the distance I seen,

@@johnkluenker Think I made a short comment but may have accidentally deleted it, just ignore it, I had an Aronca sedan Masive wing, think it was 37 feet, any how I would do lots of short field landing and short circuits at 500 feet keeping inside the channel park way, turn over the Skaha beach end at 500 feet above grd Come just over the power lines with a steep side slip round out touch down in the first few feet turn and enter at the beginning of the approach, Very few pilots would ever do that, I noticed they would always glide in from out over the lake, and if they ever lost an engine, I guaranty they would be in the lake, Learn to do a power off approach all the time with a steep to moderate approach and you will always hit your mark, Roll out elevation above ground will determine amount of ground roll, Now I never got to fly floats, But doing this will definitely improve your floats on landings, also learn to lift one float as your taking off in small lakes that are tricky, My friend Andy did a lot of it there, A fast turn on floats getting one out of the water will increase your take off speed and lift out of the water, Good luck and watch out for those big cells they finally made me quit,

I couldn’t tell that the suspension was articulating at all. Even after the adjustment it looked too stiff to me. Tires look over inflated (hard) as well. I thought the whole system was supposed to be soft but without rebound. But what do I know; only thing I’ve ever flown was this Lazyboy wannabe (With magazine pocket 🤣).

So you put a clone of the original Roberts Bush Gear RAGE shock setup on your plane. I'll be quite fine with being the first downvote as i was working alongside John Roberts While we developed it. For video proof, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FKw86ZQL87Y.html. 2012. For those of you not in the know, John has a hangar in Homedale next to the new home of Kitfox during the years of development. If you want to know more just ask RANS pilots that now have a cub style gear called the Roberts Bush gear and the ones that own the RAGE system.
