I’ve had my VZE for 15 months and it is magnificent. I regularly get over 60km on electric. When I do decide to have a play in hybrid mode, it feels like it could definitely handle more power than what it is allowed to use
Alfa Romeo should be following the path of Cupra, instead of the obsession with releasing too many SUVs. Cupra is a way better name than Seat too, for English speakers.
Thanks for reviewing the Cupra Leon family. I have probably said in the comment before that I will buy one of these just after its facelift. For me, the entry-level V will be my pick, but I'm also looking forward to trying the VZe. There are other handful options available in some European countries, such as a real entry-level 1.5 eTSI with 110kw of output, a 2.0TDI diesel engine with 360Nm of torque, and a limited edition called the VZ5, which shares the 5-cylinder 2.5T engine with the Audi RS3.
The 110kW was considered for Australia but ultimately they didn’t proceed. Four models is probably enough! I think the VZ5 is only for the Formentor isn’t it?
Nice review Tom. Looks like the Leon V has similar power outputs (and 0-100 times) to a mk5 gti. Sure, it's a bit torquier (and probably needs less revs to zing along) but 18s, lower kerb weight and less mechanical complexity does make it a nice package. I'm sick to death of of droning exhaust notes so that aspect suits me too! Just wish there was a manual option, I feel like they'd suit Cupra buyers 😢
Totally unforgivable that in Australia's climate that ventilated seats aren't even an option, not even on the top spec model. An interesting comparison could be the VZx vs the Hyundai FL i30N Sedan. A bit more power for the VZx but more kit in the i20N Sedan.
just sold my Audi a3 etron after 160,000 km with identical mechanicals to the VZe. Been a great car and used electric on majority of usual local trips. Really good running costs and nice to drive in electric mode. Only sold as had for 6 years and battery now out of warranty and battery or hybrid system replacement would be almost as much a the cars value. Could do with more range in these newer models but think the VZe would be a good option if you can cope with the reduced boot and plan to sell before warranty expires
I own the VZx for a few months in NZ, absolutely loving the thing! VW Golf Clubsport that we never got here in NZ. The Beats stereo sounds decent if you take the time to set up the equalizer for your liking.
