In my opinion it's not twisted. It's to show respect for Paul as a character and importantly as a father which he was till the very end saving Rudy(his son) and zenith(his wife). He deserves being on father's day and I comend the studio RIP PAUL
EXTRA CONTENT: Paul didn't say, "save your mom even if it kills you" out of selfishness or for his own benefit. He said it because his mother died without him being able to do anything, and he deeply regretted it. Furthermore, he was blamed for his mother's death by his father and brother (which led him to cut ties with his family and become an adventurer). Paul said this because he didn't want Rudeus to experience the same regret he did. After all, knowing this hurts!
I feel like this might be another case of “cut content” that is actually just content that they chose to withhold till later, like last week’s episode and episode 20.
@@kytsunee6324 true, I hope they dont just cut that, they need to use that on next eps explaining both Rudeus POV and Paul's intentions, to make it more impactful.
@@kytsunee6324 It's from the Paul Gaiden, a progression reward for the now discontinued mobile game. Even then, only half of it was released before the game was canceled. But the devs released the transcript and it's on the internet now.
In addition to this at the end of the third arc, Paul started noticing how similar Zenith was to his mother. He even told his story to Zenith and how his mother was the only person he ever really loved. And he fell in love with Zenith, who also fell in love with him. So in a way he is presented with an opportunity to save his mother. In some sense he knew he was going to his death for her.

for those saying that Rudy 'spaced out' at the end... not really; it's more that the Hydra went 'off script' and caught him off guard with something new when down to the final head. It attacked with its neck stumps (you can barely see that in the anime as there's a neck stump slammed into the ground) which caught him off guard; he even had trouble telling what it was doing via foresight until it was too late.
he stood very close to Hydra that limited the field of his view and foresight, one broken neck attached from side as a bait and the final head caught him off guard while he's just stood up.
Paul's last thoughts. --- "Am I dying?" "I want to confirm if Zenith was alive or not, at least." "Not only that, but Norn and Aisha..." "I wanted to see them again." "Are they going to school?" "Have they grown up?" "Lillia - what kind of reaction will she have to this? Even if it's a pain..." "Will she cry?" "Dammit, I'm filled with regrets." "I don't want to die...." "Still... there are.. still... so many things I wanted to do." Rudy: "Father!" "But..... Oh well..." "Its better than seeing Rudy die." "Chin up, my son. Stay positive..." He smiles one final time.
Is this in the light novel? I read all of the web novel and don’t remember this. If it in the light novel than I’m even more disappointed that I haven’t read it yet ☹️
Episode Title: Parents Premiere date: Fathers day Rudy lost his left hand Paul lost his life Zenith is in a vegetative state Father's day is not great for Rudeus
Last episode Geese said that the author of the book only reached the room with the 3 TP circles then retreated. the book shouldn't contain any information about the guardian.
From what I remember in the novel the book owner chose one of the teleportation circles and marked it by putting a stone in front of it before going in, it ended up being a trap so he lost his friends there and stoped exploring, which is why they had to chose between the two circles left.
@@keribankain8700 because it don't play the opening at the end like mf mappa did with jjk. Im fr gonna piss off so bad if they do that but thanks god they didn't, paul got the respect as he should. Bind studio cooked
This is not the real Turning Point 3 nor is it the true end result to it either, Rudy's choice to go was the real Turning Point 3, this is barely the first of many layers to be shown in the anime from that single choice, I can't reiterate this enough that that choice Rudy made is THE MOST IMPORTANT DECISION IN THE ENTIRE SERIES, it just will be a while before we see it come to full fruition
This was Paul's happiest possible ending, seeing his son survive & the crystal trapping his wife shatter right before he lost consciousness Paul's story ultimately has nothing to do with TP3, the result was always guaranteed. Paul dies & Zenith is released, no matter what The meaningful change is that Rudy is there instead of another heroic adventurer
Just a little answer for one of your questions that no it is not possible to break a person out once the labyrinth holds a person captive until you defeat the boss or clear the dungeon, FUN FACT : even in LN they showed Paul dead on the ground by drawing a panel like manga to give the readers true trauma 💀
@@TheGenreVersethe Twisting of the knife is Zenith. With so many death flag Paul has, we brace our selves for impact. But then Zenith condition is like the Sledgehammer to the brain. Rudy was telling himaelf that at least we save mom, we finishing what we came here to do Rudy was holding out waiting for Zenith to wake up, to share the pain and work it out as family. To grief together. What we rescue, was just a husk of Zenith.
Yeah, one of the illustrations for volume 12 is that bit with Rudeus standing there with his stub arm looking at Pa/ul, and then the chapter ends. The anime actually made it more gruesome since you can very clearly see he's missing his entire lower half.
@@TheGenreVerse To get it in even deeper, there's a drama CD with the hydra fight from Paul's POV. You hear his thoughts as his son's trying to figure out the circles, how he reacts to seeing Zenith, how he panics as he notices his son about to be crushed, and finally realizing he's dying.
Enjoyed the reaction. They really went hard on this episode.... they couldn't consult the book, as they said last episode the previous party never found the secret entrance stairway, so the book didn't mention the final teleporter or the hydra. Fortunately, as we saw, Roxy had read a different book that did mention hydras, and Rudy remembered his Greek myths and gaming lore....
In my opinion if rudeus didnt come : 1.Paul woudnt have sacrificed himself 2.Roxy wouldnt have been found 3.The team wouldnt have figured out the way into the 6th stratum. 4.Even if they did they wouldnt be able to defeat the hydra as the integral part in the fight was Rudy Now Because Rudy was there : 1.Paul died but zenith got saved despite being in a vegetative state. 2.Roxy got saved because in the anime we see she literally got saved just before getting killed which wouldnt have happened without Rudy. 3.Rudeus found the secret teleporter to the 6th stratum 4.Rudy helped in defeating Hydra. Now considereing all of these i dont think i will trust the Hitogami for now .
I don’t think turn points “ends”, it’s literally a turning point because everything that comes after would be different without it, if there was no turning point 1, the story would be completely different, he’d stay tutoring Eris and who knows what would have happened later, if turning point 2 didn’t happen, Eris would not have dumped him to get stronger and all of the first part of season 2 would have been completely different, if turning point 3 didn’t happen he’d stay at Ranoa, and idk what else would be different, but it probably doesn’t end here.
Poor Rudy. It seems that the relationship with his parents in either world is a mess and I don't believe that his own family life will be easy going for him too. Well, I must wait and see.
5:24 I don’t want to be that guy but Rudy solos her no contest… Well you could make an agreement for Anime only Rudy RN but soon after this no way he’s just too strong. Not to mention he can Cancel out her magic so ya…
Now we know why they skipped 1 week, TP3 episode was on mother's day in Japan and they timed this ep to be on father's day. Regardless of the episode, Happy Father's day to you!
Now in the opening, we can see two timelines between his parents. His mom taken away when he was a kid, and his father was taken away just now. People that cooked the opening is vile, spoiled the whole arc in a few seconds, lol. Now comes the controversial part, oh boy.
This ep is a 10/10 for this kind of chaos production. Direction top tier animation works was well down Q Kawa and his contacts to studio Gear ( chengix huang studio) (chines animation studio) and freelancer did a great job. I hope ther will be back for a session 3 because ther are for session 2 sofar the only one who carries the action
And one thing that anime didn’t made much clear that Paul is actually really strong that even elinalise was struggling to damage the dragon let along cut of its head off, it shows Paul ain’t a normal swordsman, if it weren’t for Rudy he might have lived
I mean, that was perfectly clear given Paul literally did most of the work here. We even see Elinalise tried stabbing it and no visible damage occured. Whereas Paul is cutting off heads left and right and dancing around the dragon without much issue.
@slimshazy2819 Paul isn't that strong, he's not even a Saint in any of the 3 styles (although he could keep up with one just fine) Paul's shorter blade was a legendary blade that cuts better the harder its target is, but can't cut anything soft like bread That's why he can slaughter strong targets effortlessly while Elinalise struggles
Fun fact, Turning Point 3 (the one where we got the bad news about Zenith) aired on Mother's Day. After that, they purposely delayed a week to air this episode on Father's Day ... anyway, Happy Father's Day everyone!
The craziest thing about that battle, is that it shows just how strong Paul is. And according to Paul, he’s gotten weaker. And if you wanna really freak out, he said he was never able to beat Ghislaine. But Ghislaine went blow for blow with one of Perugius’s 12 followers. And Perugius isn’t even one of the 7 Great Powers. And technically Orsted is the strongest among the 7. Mushoku Tensei has SO much left to show us.
but lets put it in a different perspective: maybe they meant to spend as much time as you can before it's too late and you might regret it like rudeus did...
What an episode. I've already said it before and I don't want to spoil anything about the future of the plot, but Turning Point 3 was the decision of Rudy whether he choose to go or not. Now that we saw the result of his choice, many people will naturally say he made the wrong decision. However, for a certain outcome I can't spoil now, he'd regret as much as this time even if he stayed. I'm telling this to ease the anime-only community.
man you cant compare Paul to current day actual world husbands. in that world nobles have multiple wives etc. paul did his best to stay faithful to zenith only because of her religion (in millis they dont do polygamy etc) but when zenith was mid way into her pregnancy she couldnt have... sexy time with paul. paul is a man that needs his sexy times and eventually lilia who was provoking him... broke him and he cheated. other than that we've seen paul being a GREAT family man. sacrificing everything for his family trying to find them and bring them all back together. and finally he sacrificed his own life to save his wife and his son in one go.
We did say he is capable of being a good person. It's not just him banging other women, is also stuff like how his first time with Lilia went down... As far as we know from Vol 1 that is.
Just when rudy thought he can reconcile with his father, he lose him. Rudy never got a chance to repay his father at his previous life, he thought he will do it with paul. A cursed for a second life, you will experience a second regret.
this hurts so bad. i know its coming and i cried when reading the novel but sht still stings. i was even not planning to watch this and yet... fffffudge.
Some "fun" sidenotes for the ones that care. Sneaking and just taking Zenith doesnt work. They are an S Rank Adventurer Group they know from expierence that releasing the crystal only works by killing its guardian. (It works as a mana source and monster feed off from Mana, explaining e.g. why they keep respawning). Viewers always overestimate Rudeus physical capabilities which isnt their fault. The anime lacks explaining stuff like Battle Aura which Rudeus completely lacks and enhances physical abilities (it also means Paul e.g. covering his sword with mana) and also the reason why high tier physical fighters usually outclass mages. (the water god style can even counter magic) Having to speak spells takes time and also a solid hit to the head usually mean the end to a mage. He is in peak physical condition and has his Eye of Foresight which allows him to do a lot. And even though he is a mage most of his fights in the show are close combat which mages usually avoid. The fact he can fight a Manatite Hydra which is a 100% counter against mages is impressive in itself. Ghislaine even admitted back in the Eris arc that she doesnt think she can win against Rudeus if he was in an open field with enough distance (aka a mages prefered combat space) when he was 7. I do love the teamwork though. Roxy is on healing as she and Rudy both have to say healing spells so it makes sense for him to be on the offensive with Paul while she concentrates on healing. Paul on the attack, Elinalise on defensive. Talhand doesnt get to do much as he lacks healing and his magic is not doing shit to the Hydra. Geese cant help in this fight unfotunately and reports the events in case the party dies (for future adventurers). They also burn bodies since dead bodies can turn into monsters like Wights. Rudy wanted to bring back his remains. Also about talking fast I love how quickly Cliff is casting magic. Remember when Zanoba was crushing his skull and how quickly he spewd the words. Rapper mages would be insane in this world.>< Technically Turning point 3 is not over. Just Like 1 or 2 the full picture isnt available untill later. (TP 1 is still not over and Season 2 expanded on it) Usually a TP has a direct event but consequences that drag into later arcs.
9:00 the big crystal is the core of the labyrinth. They need to kill its Guardian (in this case the hydra) to get to it. 9:30 The strategy guide is useless at this point. The author stepped on one of the three circles with his party and was the sole survivor. He didn't know of the hidden circle or of the hydra. 25:40 Nope, Turning Point 3 as an arc still isn't done yet.
Great episode from an LN reader's perspective. This was qkawa's first go at directing an episode, and he absolutely fucking nailed it. There were people complaining that the hydra was CGI after the previews earlier, but I'd say this is the best looking use of it I've ever seen - it doesn't stick out, fits in very well, and there's still 2D shots here and there. The music choice during the fight was also nice - not triumphant or heroic, rather very ominous the whole time (looking back at Turning Point 2, this and the music that plays during the whole Orsted fight actually use pretty much the same instrumentation and sound quite similar). The music choice really drove home that this monster could easily chop someone in half with a single slip-up (and it did).
This is not a spoiler, just my own opinion of the “regret” thing, based on what happened the last few episodes. I think, regardless of whatever Man God says the regret was, it’s gonna be a lie. Because I think he was lying from the start, or at least was manipulating him with half truths. Because even if he regrets going because of Paul’s death, or whatever, he would’ve regretted *not* going far more. Because I think Paul wouldn’t be the only one to die if Rudy didn’t go. Think about it, Roxy was *SECONDS* away from dying. If Rudy hadn’t come with that book, and then found her himself, they would’ve never made it to her in time to save her and she would’ve died. Because the book sped up their trip down to that stratum, allowing them to make it to her in time. And with Roxy dead, the party would be down a member, which means they wouldn’t stand a chance against the hydra, considering they were barely able to beat it __with_ Roxy, *and* Rudy and Elinalise. Especially since Rudy was the one that came up with the idea of burning the necks after cutting off the heads. Not to mention the fact that Rudy is also the one who figured out there was a hidden staircase, *only* because he went through the teleportation ruins that no one in the party even knew about. So not only would Roxy be dead, but it would’ve taken a whole lot longer to reach the boss room, if they reached it at all(because they likely wouldn’t have found the hidden staircase without Rudy) and the whole party might’ve ended up dead. So based on what we saw the last few episodes alone, Man God is full of 💩.
Paul is a character that thrives in the face of hardship and danger. In a safe environment, he was a stupidly criminal youth who forced himself on a girl, a playboy who slept with any girl he could, and fell for temptation even after he promised to be loyal in marriage. But as soon as any of his family member is in a precarious or dire situation, he would go off the deep end in order to save them. And through all of his past mistakes, he continued living to make up for it, and he prioritized his 1st wife right to the end of his life. His 2nd wife, whom he wronged in the past, came next. And then his kids (most of all Rudeus) whom he ultimately traded his life to save. As far as a (fictional) father goes, I'm confident to say he made right and deserves to be called a great man at the point of his death.
Rudy's status: We beat the dragon😃 Ar! I lose my arm.😨 Still we beat it only losing my arm😁 Father?😐😦😨 on the way back 😕😕😕😕😕 mather is not awaking🙁🙁🙁 at least she is not dead🙂🙂🙂 she is awakening!🥹🥹🥹 She loses her mind and memory 💔 You know what they said, pull you out of troubles just so they can later push you off the cliff.
""Save your mother even if it kills you," he said. This was a father talking to his son. Even if it kills you. That certainly wasn't something a parent should say. At the very least, it would have been better if he's said, "Ill save her even it kills me." Still, I didn't think he was a cruel father for saying it. this was his conviction - his trust in me. Paul intended to do what he said - he would save her even if it cost him his life. And he thought of me as an equal. He believed in me. He saw me as an adult. That was why he said what he did. All that remained was to respond. We were going to save Zenith. To that end, Paul and I would share the same determination."
Damn this was a nice ep, theres still 2-3 more major depressing events still to unfold throughout the entire story, if they fully adapt the LN then were in for some juicy times.
22:14 this scene got me hard, not even a last word, just a dead body. 19:47 I got spoiled before, that paul will dead. When i read the vol 10, it keeps me anxious. I pray the spoiler is fake, or he will die at later volume. After all it's going so welll for rudy and his team. Then rudy got cocky/careless. After that i stop reading the ln for a while because , my heart can't take it anymore.
And they had to incinerate him just because the corpses turn into zombies if you just let them too much time, Norn and Aisha will not be able to say goodbye properly either.. Happy(?) father's day
Paul is a good person and a good father and an ok husband. His cheating once was not purely his fault. And considering the outcome of this fight and zeniths condition. It would have been better for Paul to have lived and been there for his kids and grand kids as a fully functional adult. Because zenith will never get better from her condition.
@@TheGenreVerse yes Paul forced himself on Lilia in the past in the training dojo to get back at the other guys in the dojo. He grew and learned from that and regretted it. After the mana incident Paul rescued those he could well trying to find his family. Lilia used that past to blackmail Paul for the job later. And was more confused about why Paul did it Paul did that than she was traumatized. When she tells Rudy later she doesn't break down or say she loathed Paul for it. She simply dealt with it and moved on. It's like bison telling chin li that destroying her home and family was just another Tuesday for him. She actively intentionally seduced him for months into cheating in the anime. Lilia is not the pinnacle of morality by any means.
Very poignant silent ending. Then the aftermath... Based on what we've seen so far, regrets may be going on a mission that has lost his father and (if Zenith don't recover) his mother and (if he doesn't fix it) his arm. The positive is that he saved Roxy, who would 100% have died if he hadn't shown -- but getting close to Roxy might have its own perils.
I can understand with the common thing Japan aired the show like this during father's day since back in 90s I watched the Japanese movie during 1991 father's day where a scene father sacrifice himself saving his son from get hit by a speed car. Before he died he asked his son to forgive him for being no longer able to see his grandchildren again.. Can't afford to feel offended? Come on, that's how Asian countries airing a drama, movie until Anime for a lesson learned in life about father sacrifice for his children and be grateful for those who have wisdom to understand it
Don't think anyone is feeling offended by it. People are pointing it out because it's just unthinkable for the publisher literally delay the airing schedule just to achieve this feat. For the most part, that's just awe, not offended.
We're not offended by it. Please don't mistake our pointing things out and using humorous indignation about them as literal anger. Releasing on Father's Day is a beautifully morbid thing to do.
Turning point 3 happening on mothers where we get the reveal that sylphie is pregnant and the letter for help with zenith and now Paul death on fathers day that is straight up twisted
I think you're asking about Frieren? Maybe trying to make a joke about her not having the ability to use healing magic? Sorry if Google translate didn't do a good job with your comment.
Damn they purposely released it on fathers day...😢 I think it will be explained in EDIT: waay later episode or season on what happened to zenith... but from what i remember...Spoilers i think..: she has an ability to read minds that developed during her crystalized state... correct me if i'm wrong...telepathy...i dont know how to explain well but, she is somewhat in a dreamlike state, it's like she is talking in her dream but in our perspective, we see and hear her talk like mumbling or gone crazy...its like shes half awake...
@@meliotablet yeah , sry about that... it's been so long and this is the somewhat i remember reading it... i dont even know if its accurate...it is only my understanding...so i might be wrong in explaining...
I understand that you mean no harm, however I suggest editing the original comment you made to "this will be explained WAY later, not in the next episode" since there are people who'd happily read spoilers of upcoming episode but avoid spoilers from literally 2+ seasons away.
