I was on ozempic, I ended up with lipase levels 3x higher than normal, almost had pancreatitis from it. I’m not a drinker at all, and 1 month after coming off the ozempic, my levels were completely normal again. I started Carnivore after and lost 50 lbs in less than 4 months after coming off ozempic and went from an ha1c of 6.4 to 5.2. These kind of meds should be more carefully monitored

Maybe ask why people are willing to put up with nausea on these drugs. Nausea can be treated. The unbearable obsession and hunger for carbs that comes from cutting out carbs from your diet can’t be treated (except with a drug like semaglutide). People act like it’s so simple- cut calories, cut carbs, exercise more. All that usually achieves is increased hunger and fatigue. You may be able to swim up stream like that for a few months, but eventually the current will sweep you away. That’s why the vast majority fail. Semaglutide and similar drugs takes away the knawing hunger and resulting obsession that comes from the hunger. That’s why it’s so popular.
@johannas.l.brushane2518
@johannas.l.brushane2518 2 месяца назад
Actually the physical impact of a diet high in processed carbs is the double whammy of increasing hunger hormones ghrelin and decreasing satiated hormone leptin. Add to it that in Dr Chris vanTulleken's experiment of eating high processed food for 30 days showed a change on brain scans in the increased activity in the area for repetitive behaviour. This will eventually reverse after a while on low carb diet, in a physical aspect. So the obsession and hunger for carbs that may be after a considerable time of cutting down carbs appear to be of more a mental aspect, i.e. that some food is in the mindset connected to be used for rewards and comfort and not real hunger. And some people have a very strong resistance to do work on their mental status, you see it in "girl world" influencers as well as in the series "My 600-lb life" even if they acknowledge they had serious trauma at some point in their life and it is obvious it have affected their attitude to food. But they are quite stubborn on getting the magic wand and having no ability in improving their control of their food intake to how much as well as to what they eat.
@alliem.182
@alliem.182 3 месяца назад
It's weird to me that when someone has an eating disorder we collectively worry about their physical and mental health, but when they take a drug that creates the exact same outcome of barely eating enough, they are 'brave' and 'doing it for their health'.

I have gastroparesis and so I'm in a couple of gastroparesis Facebook groups on Facebook and the number of people joining these groups that have lasting gastroparesis because of these drugs ✨after coming off of them✨ is alarming and I feel like nobody is really talking about it beyond "some nausea and vomiting as side effects". Are people being warned that this can happen? Being given a nausea medication with your ozempic prescription isn't enough. Those often cause constipation, and then you're medicating for that too. Gastroparesis is miserable and some people with it actually gain weight. My food sits in my stomach all night long and keeps my blood glucose elevated so I'm creeping up on pre diabetes. I just got a CGM so I'm seeing the patterns in my highs and lows and it's very concerning what gastroparesis is doing to the rest of my body. I have GERD, my teeth are a MESS, and I'm still fat. This is not a long term weight solution.

All weight loss will result in muscle loss. Ozempic doesn't cause you to lose muscle, cutting calories on a an already shitty diet without resistance training causes you to lose muscle. GLP-1 with a high protein low carb (keto/carnivore) diet with some resistance training 1-2 times a week is easy mode with minimal muscle loss maybe even gain muscle.

Unless we talk about the starting metabolic health of the individual and the dosing amount, ozempic is being misrepresented. I’m a type 2 diabetic who with consistent exercise and low carb still couldn’t break the metabolic block. Started on ozempic lowest dose and finally my blood sugar is lower. No real weight loss so far despite tracking everything but I’m on it for blood sugar effects. No intention of increasing the dose since I’m getting the response I need.

Why make things complicated when it might not be necessary? I suggest you try the simple way first to see if it will work for you. Just changing what I ate worked for me. I went low carb in Oct 2021 after being diagnosed with diabetes and was not doing it to lose weight. I weighed 80kg, 5 foot tall. I started losing weight quite easily without even trying. I did not measure carbs (just kept them low) or calories. I continued doing my regular stretching and strengthening exercises that I had been doing for at least one year prior to changing my WOE. I got to 62kg easily and stayed there for a long time. Earlier this year I cut out cheese because it causes mild constipation (and can make my hemorrhoids flare up) and lost 4kg, again without trying. I now weigh what I did in the mid 1980s before I had children.

Perhaps you could go to a poor third world country or an impoverished area of your own country for a few months and help the poor, starving people of the world and your mindset might change when it comes to appreciating the great advantage you have with the opportunity and education you have that should help you appreciate how easy it is to make healthy choices in your life in comparison to the great majority of people in the world.

In my opinion, it is just as important to eat enough of the right food as well as limit or eliminate the bad food. I think we overweight and obese people are malnourished. Taking a drug that will cause you to eat less will make you more malnourished. I am not an MD or a nutritionist, but I think it is a good idea to increase the consumption of protein first. Do that before you even consider cutting down on the carbs. Eventually you do want to cut down on the carbs, but first things first.

The big question is why people have undesirable weight. Once they answer this then they would just deal with the cause. I am in Kenya, and here we do not have a weight problem. We just do things. Methinks the problem in the US is the agriculture and the food. Perhaps also the fact that the US has zeroed agriculture, food and eating down to science and evidence, and peoples lives are supposed to fit into this. Why not consider that other animals just live without science

The number of medications removed from public use every year had been growing rapidly up to the year 2000, and I'm very sure it's continued to increase even more rapidly each year since then, though exact numbers are suspiciously hard to find.... I think you’re being naive. Especially regarding weight loss for women. Mounjaro is a life saver and losing muscle mass happens with every diet. While I agree that protein is critical when on these drugs, I believe low carb or keto diets are unsustainable for the long term. I think people need to focus in portion control for the long haul. And people need to learn how to eat slowly so they get used to listening to their cues from their bodies telling them when they are sated.

Supressing your appetite by using appetite suppresants IS NEVER EVER A GOOD CHOICE EVER! You should be putting on muscle.. and you gotta eat to do that. There are some pretty good peptide therapies out there that are a far better choice.. example cjc 1295/ipamorelin.. You want to put on muscle..When you put on muscle, your weight will adjust accordingly.. This does not occur when you SUPRESS YOUR APPETITE..

The elephant in the room is that these drugs interfere with proper nutrient absorption. Gastrointestinal distress can indicate several different issues, but in this case it would be indicating a transit time that is too short to properly feed either you or your gut microbiome. And, the amount of energy consumed to clear out all of this undigested food is staggering. This is energy that you need to be using for autophagy, and cellular regeneration. But instead you are wasting it on attempting to digest and eliminate food that provides you with little nutrition. It is a massive energy and nutrient sink hole. Essentially these drugs starve you of the nutrients you need to fuel bodily functions such as cellular repair. Keto addresses this directly. There is no such thing as a magic pill.

A friend of mine is using a combination of a GLPT1 Agonist with insulin for his T2D. He didn't want to change his diet. He was losing weight to the point that he was getting hypos, so he reduced his medication and now his weight loss seems to have stalled. That's not really a problem at the weight where he is now. Since you're going to be using these drugs for the rest of your life, unless you change your lifestyle, I think the main point is to use as little of these drugs as possible. These drugs reduce your appetite, effectively causing you to starve yourself. Not only is there a high risk of loss of muscle mass, but because people eat less of their unhealthy diet, there is also an increased risk of nutritional deficiencies. The aim is to lose weight as slowly as possible. You can always increase the dose if the weight loss stalls. But then the question is: do you really need to lose more weight? By taking less of these drugs you also reduce the risk and severity of side effects. So, if you are at a point where you are just a little overweight, the risks of increasing the dosage are already not worth it.

Interesting that a drop in A1C of 1.0 to 1.38 is declared ‘significant’. If your A1C is 10, then does a 1.38 drop actually make that much difference? Simply cutting carbs can quickly give you a 5.0 drop in A1C (from personal experience). It seems that the effectiveness of medication is over-stated - perhaps why many would say that an A1C of 7.0 for a diabetic is ‘good’. In terms of weight loss, I went ‘low carb’ 10+ years ago and lost weight steadily over a couple of years (from 79kg down to 75). I’m now around 70 and, if anything, need to be careful to keep my weight up!

Not much talk about the gut microbiome effects from the digestive slo-down from a GLP1A . I'm reluctant to try a GLP1 A because I'm low carb carnivore for 18 months now and the gut is micro is amazing. I have major weight loss issues tho. In fact, a few months ago I found out I was diabetic and since using Insulin, I've been slowly gaining weight even tho I'm eating less than 15 carbs/day. I think insulin resistance and a secondary metabolic syndrome of some sort. I have noticed that I have bulked up a little from all the hi protein. At age 65, protein is paramount to maintain muscle mass.

The lowest dose for Ozempic is .25mg every 2 weeks. My dr just started me on it a month ago at the lowest dosage bc my body has trouble taking some medications. For example, I’m on Amlodipine for my BP. If I take 10mg a day, whether we break it up to 5mg ea in the morning and at night, I faint and wind up with stitches in my head. If we do 7.5mg/day, I get dizzy and it makes me vomit. If I take 5mg/day, my body does fine with zero side effects, but my insurance company didn’t want to cover the 5mg. My dr had to argue with the insurance company and prove that my body can’t handle the higher dosages before they’d cover it. She started me at the lowest dosage of Ozempic for T2D, and my body couldn’t tolerate it at all yet the insurance company had no problem covering that medication, go figure. I projectile vomited multiple times within 24 hrs of taking it, and had extreme bowel issues which landed me in the hospital for dehydration and other issues. So, that was a no from my body on the lowest dosage of Ozempic. I told my dr when the “cure” becomes worse than the disease, it’s not worth it. I have a very busy life, and I don’t have time to spend projectile vomiting for days with further issues that resulted in a hospital visit nor does my wallet appreciate it very much. I’m going to change my diet to Keto and IF to see how that goes since my body is so touchy with medications.
