The IPL 2024 season has come to an end, with 2 months of entertaining, record-breaking and thrilling cricket. While we will take a lot of good memories from this season, one trait that has come out unfortunately is that things are turning a bit too toxic.
We have seen fanbases turn poisonous, we have seen cricketers and their families being targeted for personal abuse and we have seen every single move from some cricketers being questioned thanks to clear biases of some of the experts. In this whole toxic parade, some former cricketers, in their bids to stay relevant, say the most outlandish things, without realising what effect their words might actually be having. The likes of Ambati Rayudu seem to be saying just about anything to stay in the news cycle and just criticise a certain team and fanbase come what may, while the likes of Sunil Gavaskar, legends in their own right, seem to be driven by ego at this point, slamming young cricketers needlessly. We have seen the likes of Hardik Pandya, Virat Kohli, and others be at the receiving end of abuse online, some times instigated by these former cricketers just trying to stay in public eye!
So, the big question is - where does this stop? The T20 world cup is around the corner, where all of us should be cheering for India. But, can we set aside these IPL team differences, and can these former cricketers set aside their biases and agendas to actually support the Indian Cricket Team?
