If you're dealing with chronic pain, inflammation, or a sports injury, shockwave therapy may be a non-invasive treatment option worth considering. Shockwave therapy is a popular form of physical therapy that uses high-energy sound waves to stimulate healing and repair damaged tissue.
In this video, we will dive into the details of how shockwave therapy works. We'll explain the different types of shockwave therapy, such as focused and radial, and how they differ in application. We'll also discuss how shockwave therapy promotes the regeneration of tissue, increases blood flow, and reduces pain and inflammation.
You'll learn about the different conditions that can be treated with shockwave therapy, such as plantar fasciitis, tendinitis, and trigger points. Additionally, we'll explore the benefits of shockwave therapy compared to other treatment options, including surgery and medication.
If you're interested in learning more about shockwave therapy and how it may benefit you, then be sure to watch this video. Our expert will provide all the information you need to understand the ins and outs of this revolutionary therapy.

Yes it works great for treating chronic hamstring injuries. Scar tissue develops in those chronic injuries and the shockwave treatment helps to heal the injured tissue.

Is it safe to use? Does it have any side effect? Will it break good tissues? Thanks in advance

It is very safe to use and the biggest side effect is muscle soreness that may last up to a day. It does not break down healthy tissue.

Hello Doctor I’m having mild disc bulge in L4 L5 L5 S1 with mild sciatica on right leg. Can I go for shock wave therapy?

It wouldn’t be my first choice for treatment. I would recommend spinal decompression for the disc and laser therapy if you are having nerve symptoms.

The nerve is irritated so I would recommend laser therapy to reduce inflammation and spinal decompression therapy to take the pressure of the nerve at L5/S1. Hope that helps.

Is it possible to get a little worse before it gets better? I've had 2 sessions and going for my 3rd tomorrow. I'm not happy. It's not working at all. I'm a little worse than when I went in and really annoyed that I'm paying $100 a pop to apparently get worse. I get the idea, it's creating an inflammatory response which is going to temporarily aggravate the area, and doing it repeatedly for up to 5 weeks. But doctors are touting a 90% success rate, while tallying testimonials on the internet produces about a 50% success rate. Makes it feel like more woo and a cash grab to me. Any insight?
@drtoddsullivan
@drtoddsullivan 4 месяца назад
It is possible that the condition does get worse initially but then after 3-5 visits it should get better. There are multiple factors that will cause it to respond slower. Where is the problem located? How long have you had it? Do you have a recent MRI? What type of shockwave is the provider using focused or radial? What is your treatment frequency? Let me know the answers to those questions and I might be able to give more insight.

@@drtoddsullivan I am dealing with it in two places in the bottom of my right foot. Lateral plantar fasciitis (4 months) and a grade 1-2 sprain of the 2nd-3rd deep traverse metatarsal ligament (1 month). Initially, in the day or 2 following the first two sessions, it felt a little better, only to come back with a vengeance a week later. I have asked my doctor to go high intensity on the machine, and he has done 4,000 shocks per session, so he's hitting it pretty hard
@crispycruiser4654
@crispycruiser4654 4 месяца назад
@@drtoddsullivan I appreciate your response. Radial, maximum pressure, 4,000 shocks (2,000 to each injury). The problem is in two places in my right foot. Lateral plantar fascia band, and 2nd-3rd transverse MTP ligament. MRI is unremarkable, but clear inflammatory markers on ultrasound. I've had the plantar fasciitis in this location for about 4-5 months and the metatarsalgia for 1 month (second round with it, it got 100% better in 3 months last time). I have a history of various tendonopathies dating back to a script with fluoroquinolone antibiotics - the initial injuries from the Cipro were very severe, these more recent ones are more minor and traditional overuse injuries.
@drtoddsullivan
@drtoddsullivan 4 месяца назад
thanks for the additional information. I personally would be using my focused shockwave on that location. I think radial would irritate the structures in that region. Focused even though it goes deeper is much more comfortable on boney structures. I also think based on your tendon history it could slow down the healing process. If the radial treatment doesn’t work I would suggest finding someone who does focused shockwave some brands to look for are storz, piezowave, softwave. I hope that helps.

@@drtoddsullivan thanks so much for your feedback and reply. I didn’t see this until now! I’ve contacted a lawyer but we need to really prove this is what caused the tinnitus. Do you know of anyone you can refer me to who could have a look at me and see if there’s a way we can prove the shockwave caused this? Or a doctor who can help write a report on the dangers and perhaps a cause? Thanks very much appreciated.

@drtoddsullivan

No the reason you are having nerve symptoms is because the nerve is inflamed from the disc bulge if you calm down the nerve with laser therapy, ice and NSAIDs and take the pressure of the disc with spinal decompression your nerve pain with resolve.
