This is by far the best review I've seen of the GTA2. It's the ONLY one I've ever seen that shows the levers to limit how far the inner screen drops down, as well as how to remove it entirely. Great job.
Just bought one because reviews said it’s one of the quietest. It’s quieter than my old AGV K5S but still not as quiet as I hoped for. Apart from that I’m very happy with it and as you say the build quality is very good. Love the ratchet system, better than D rings any day in my opinion. Cost $900 AUD, that’s $668 USD, and that was on special.
Excellent video.. I have had my GT Air 2 for a year now and its the best helmet I have bought. Had a GT Air 1 previously and the 2 is leagues ahead. Riding a naked bike the first thing I noticed at speed, the 2 is unbelievably stable, compared to the GT Air 1 which, as with most helmets, you get that wobbly head effect that strains the neck muscles. It is also very light and more quiet than a lot of helmets I have had. A big thumbs up for this helmet. The sena comms package is excellent too.
Excellent review, you put a lot more in your reviews than most people and it's appreciated... have to say I've been wearing script glasses for many years ...just bought this helmet ...no prob putting glasses on... graduated from Shoei RF1200.
Probably no differences. The reason could be just cost. Most helmet companies don't bother to spend more money than necessary to abide with regulations.
Glad they've done something with the chin spoiler. I have the first GT-Air, and the low frequency "booming" sound generated at the bottom of the helmet was driving me crazy. I ride a naked bike. I had to have a neck-warmer hanging out to distort the wind flow. Eventually I bought the detachable chin spoiler fitted with X-Fourteen, and managed to get that fitted to the GT-Air. Problem solved!
I found it noticeably louder than a GT Air 1, odd since supposedly it's more aerodynamic. I may try a Neotec 2 due to it's more closed neck. There again you have some saying a modular isn't as quiet as a full face and others saying modulars are quieter. More shops should have wind testing machines for you to test.
How a helmet fits has a massive impact on how noisy it is. We have found over the years a lot of riders gravitate towards helmets that are one size larger than the size chart would put them in. This will result in excessive noise. Take a minute to get a good measurement and compare it to the Shoei size chart to see if you are in the size they would recommend. - Van
About the glasses, maybe the padding is not correctly adjusted. At the japanese store where I live, he made some adjustments and it my glasses fit perfectly, no wobble, not hanging.
The only available adjustments would be changing the thickness of the cheek pads. If the helmet was too tight and needed thinner cheek pads to sort that for you I could see that helping with the glasses. - Van
Here's the thing about their safety standards though: Shoei makes their helmets to their own in-house safety standards. They've been about safety and comfort from the very beginning. Basically any other brand and I'd be skeptical, but Shoei knows what they're doing
If it fits properly it will not move around excessively. Shoei uses a wind tunnel while developing all of their helmets to ensure the aerodynamic performance is where it needs to be. - Van
I only recently "upgraded" from the GT Air to the GT Air 2 after 6 years of riding in it. What an absolute disappointment. The top vent might as well not be there for the amount of air it flows - cannot feel anything. Using the vent on the GT Air and I can feel a noticable cooling effect along the top of my head. And I'm not sure what they've done to the aero, but they've managed to spend 6 years of R&D and make it worse. I get this unbearbable low-ish rumbling/rustling sound as the air passes underneath the helmet and makes its way past the chin strap and around my ears. Yes, it is fitted correctly. I've even bought the larger 39mm cheek pads to get the fit even more spot on. I'm trying to return it as defective, or else sell it. Absolutely gutted after spending more than $1400 AUD on it plus the Sena SRL2. Managed to find a last remaining original GT Air from Europe which I have ordered, and cannot wait to get it! Shoei better listen to it's customers for the GT Air 3!
Man sorry to hear that your experience has not been a good one. With all of the Shoeis I have owned and ridden in (full face race helmets) I feel each model has been a step forward. - Van
Sportbike Track Gear cheers for the reply Brian! Have ye guys heard anything back from customers like this for the helmet? I’ve tried them back to back with the original and the new one, and there’s definitely a noticeable constant low wind noise where the wind gets up by the chin strap, in comparison to the original. Moving head position, standing up, different bikes, nothing makes a difference. Very frustrating because I want to love it!
Great review. My GT Air 2 are great but.....my visor don't close completely if I only use the left hand on this edge. I must slam it down in the middle of the visor. Is it normal ?
No it sounds like you need to adjust your shield. You can loosen the screws on the shield pivot which will allow you to adjust the shield and correct this. - Van
Can you install the dark drop down screen from a Shoei Air II in a Shoei Ari I .. I get a bright glare off from my Instrument panel when the Sun is low in the sky such as late afternoon ..
@@sportbiketrackgear Of course they are a different part # as the Air II sun screen shield is longer.. I did not even know it was removable on the Air I but it only makes sense that they should be removable and thus replaceable Maybe the mounting system is totally different I have no idea.. I did just realize that if I put the longer sun visor from the Air II in an Air I being longer it most likely would not fully retract.. I left a comment in the Sena communications install Video for the Air II . That is a very nice set up .. There are some complications with my Cardo Pak Talk Slim which is very similar in lay out to the Sena's system made to install in the Air II Helmet..
Which one Is Best for venting.....touring and racing.... Gt air 2 vs shoei nxr2...vs bell star.. Vs agv veloce s..... Give A Review Of Shoei Nxr2..... And Compare Video With Gt air 2
Just ordered it online and once received I’m disappointed with the linen inside. It looks low quality and more importantly it makes me feel really hot! My head is just so freaking hot. Can we change the head pad and cheek pad with something else made with cooler material?
I have taken apart more helmets than you could even imagine. Comparing Shoei to the rest I would say they lead the way in quality. Max and I both wear Shoei and find the fabric used to be excellent. It is important to remember no matter what brand helmet you are wearing it will be warmer than not wearing one. - Van
Can you take this to the track? If you don' t recommend riding track or racing with this helmet, why not? What are some good track options somewhere around the $700 price point?
I would not use this on the track and most orgs will not allow a DOT only helmet on the track. Helmets with a drop down inner have a thicker brow which reduces visibility in the tuck. For this reason alone I would not use it on the track. - Van
IMO they are very different helmets as the GT-Air II has a drop down inner shield and the Regent - X does not. End of the day they are both excellent helmets. - Van
You can use it, but may need to use the adhesive mount. This helmet was designed to use the direct integration SENA SRL2 Communication System. Here is a link to it on our site: www.sportbiketrackgear.com/sena-shoei-rider-link-srl-communication-system-ii/
Will the 5mm longer Shoei QSV-2 drop down sun visor from the GT-Air II retrofit in the original GT-Air? The extra length would be nice. I bought a closeout Pendulum version to replace my Wanderer version since I use a Cardo Packtalk and don’t want to change to the Sena universe...
Arai and Shoei both make excellent helmets IMO. The biggest difference between these 2 models would be the Shoei has a drop down inner shield and the Arai does not. Arai will not produce a helmet with a drop down inner shield as they feel it compromises the safety of the helmet. - Van
The SRL2 will replace the SRL1 that was introduced with the Neotec II. The SRL2 comes with a boom mic and the button mic in the package. Beyond that they are the same unit. I have installed both of them and we verified this with the distributor. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear Thanks for the reply! I had a question about the m4 street slayer exhaust too. I just got a 2019 r3 and wanted to make it louder so i can be heard when i commute but im a total noob. If I run this exhaust without a tune would that be ok?
The certification itself is not the problem, the fact they do not enforce it is the issue. IMO this is only an issue with no name helmets and not established quality brands like Shoei. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear You are definitely not wrong about Shoei, but I can't imagine thinking DOT stickers are worth more than the Plastic they're printed on. The requirements are not only laughable, it is also self certified, meaning anyone can claim to have tested the helmet themselves and then sell it as a DOT rated helmet. Shoei good, DOT bad
@@DmanGuitar327 I brought it from Germany, saved over 100 bucks, shipping was only 25 bucks. They had it cheaper to start with, and 10% off after that. Could not beat it anywhere else.
@Sir Tristan how so? I prefer a better helmet than one w a visor, what if you smash your face and the visor breaks through to your skin? Ya never know and its extra parts imo that dont need to be there. I have issues with something like a drop visor
@Sir Tristan good for you buddy, i wear helmets w tinted visors. Top of the line or nothing. Built in visor shouldnt be there. What else you have to say to make yourself feel better? Lmao
