Shoei Transitions Photochromic Visor Review & Overview following having used it for 1 year/over 10,000 riding kms.
DISCLOSURE: I purchased this shield myself (from #FortNine ) and as such, this review is provided as a non-sponsored consumer of the product.
In addition to giving this shield a rating of 4-4.5/5 stars, I provide an overview of the shield including information from various questions that viewers have asked me about the shield and my use of it from over the past year (eg longevity, darkness, can it be used at night, care of the shield, durability, etc).

This Shoei is one of the nicest helmets out there. And this shield makes it even nicer! The detailed video you made a few months back was surely one of the best review-demo videos for this visor! Ride safe my friend and Rock ON!

LOL!!!! That is the sad thing...I was actually really wanting an Arai helmet but knew when I was looking to upgrade my helmet I would want a transitions at some point so the Shoei got the win! I do think the Arai would be a better fit for my head as I do get the Shoei forehead indent spot but with the shield it is worth it lmao!

Vegas Gurl I have been wanting to do this one for awhile as I really love it but it is SO pricey I totally get how people are on the fence about it (I was too before buying it). I do love it so much compared to doing the swap-a-roo all the time! Hope all is well...I was sweating riding yesterday if you can believe it...it ALMOST made me get a sense of what real "summer" weather is lmao! 😉

Excellent Review Young lady, I love it Learned a lot about this, I have sensitive eyes and have bought helmets with the flip down shades, to help with this, but I do love this idea,. You right, it is a hair pricy, but I bet it is worth it all the way for people who have sensitive eyes. Great job on this review I love it. Sold, Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video and I hope you have a blessed week my friend. Keep up the great videos.

TY Heartland! My eyes are super sensitive as well and I am a horrible squinter - this has really helped with that. I love the simplicity and how hassle free it is! I know some folks who are still just not keen on it but I do think it is well worth the try! I love mine :D

Well you learn something new everyday, I did not know there was such a shield, but what a great idea, my glasses are transition and I thought the visor wouldn't be cheap.
@CanadianMotoGal
@CanadianMotoGal 7 лет назад
It is such a great piece of equipment. I would say it really does act almost exactly as transitions lenses do (although I have not had the transitions glasses for many years now since I primarily just wear contacts). All in all for what one gets, I guess the price point is not unreasonable but it is not cheap for sure!

Excellent review. All points covered. I own the RF-1400 but the transitions shield is not available yet. Once it is, I will snag one. I’m in the Southwest USA where it’s sunny most of the year. This is a worthwhile purchase. Thanks again!

Wow every time I thought of a question to ask at the end. You would answer it in the next topic on your list. 😆. By far the best review of this product on youtube. It is just so hard to decide because you can buy 4 visors for the price of this 1 😣. But I think I will go ahead and get it based on your review. 👍🏾

It really is awesome I love it dearly. Going with the Shoei was a toss up - almost went with an Arai but I knew I would want the transitions shield so I went to the Shoei side even tho it does leave a bit of a den tin my forehead - not annoyingly to the point that I have issue with it but...hopefully more will join the transitions trend as IMHO it cannot be beat!

Great review. Just wanted to add a comment re Fortnine (formerly Canada's motorcycle) I have made numerous purchases from this online company over the past few years. They offer a huge selection of products and in my experience have an outstanding customer service support team pre/post purchase. My most recent transaction was tires and they beat the best price I could find at the motorcycle show this year, which is usually a good option. They offered free shipping (over $50 purchase) and delivery was 3 days. (they show a Montreal address but my tires shipped out of Calgary and arrived in 3 days from time of online purchase) Follow up was an email to ensure my satisfaction with product/delivery. AND...that Ryan..what a card! :)
@CanadianMotoGal
@CanadianMotoGal 7 лет назад
willyb933 So true!!! Love Ryan's vids as they always crack me up. Laughed so hard at his good humor over being noted as Game of Thrones' King Joffery and he threw a wig on to play the part 😂. I have ordered a good amount of my gear from #Fortnine and have always had excellent customer service as you have described. It's so nice to have a Canadian source, especially for those of us who are geographicaly moto-gear challenged!

I have a Shoei GT Air helmet with the flip internal visor, so I don't need one, however this is a great review. Ironically I think that they are technically illegal to use after dark in Europe.
@CanadianMotoGal
@CanadianMotoGal 7 лет назад
Wow are they really? That is quite surprising given the technology is the same as transitions glasses and as such it clears up to the same as a pair of specs does. I had considered a helmet with the internal flip but I don't believe any of them are DOT rated for track, are they? I wanted something I could use for track if needed (aka I am too cheap to buy another helmet lol). It was a tough decision as I think the internal ones are so neat

TY Motonut - took me a few takes but finally got all the points I wanted thanks to my cheat sheet lol. It seems pricey but I suppose for the technology it really isn't as bad as it could be. Works out to about the same (or less) if I was to get Rx sunglasses so :D

awesome review i need this for my helmet if i want to ride at night..i don't have to switch visors all the time
@CanadianMotoGal
@CanadianMotoGal 7 лет назад
I will never ever go back to switching - such a PITA and this is just so hassle free (and don't need to stash another visor all the time). I am curious to see how it does over the next couple years weather it will degrade much but really even if I get 3 or 4 seasons out of it I am perfectly good with that as it would be well worth it!
@jacksonwholeexperience409
@jacksonwholeexperience409 4 года назад
Cons I can think of: lacks polarization. I think they should make the pinlock lens with either or both so you could mix and match, and they'd be cheaper.
@CanadianMotoGal

For sure there are pros and cons to any shield or system. This visor is still going strong for me so its been well worth the price for me :)

@andrewjoseph2688
@andrewjoseph2688 5 лет назад
Do you have a video showing the difference between clear and tinted... aka with a camera inside the helmet while it transitions in sunlight.. that would show more of the 'real world' view.. TINT always looks dark from the outside than the inside...
@lazyboyRider
@lazyboyRider 7 лет назад
I can see the problems what other people can have but it will be a lot better and having a tinted shield so which one is going to be the best for those night-time rides ????
@CanadianMotoGal
@CanadianMotoGal 7 лет назад
I do really love mine. I rode tonight and it was raining and very dark out and I didn't find it to be much of an issue at all. Again, the issue that has been identified by some with using it at night riding pertains more to the pinlock and thus the possible glaring that can happen with the pinloc (so it isn't that the shield is not "clear enough" at night). I find it to be a non-issue personally and I would take the pinlock over night-time fogging anyday!! Cheers for now and thanks so much for the watch and the comment!
@AUTOT3KHCL

it gets to be a hassle bringing visors on trips or when you head out for a douche cruise in town and get caught at night with a tinted visor. having ONE that does both would be slick!

The cost is slowing me down. I'm researching a transition pin lock lens but that would have its own issues because it doesn't fully cover the shield. Great review by the way. Still on the fence for now. If they cost under $100 US dollars I'd grab one right away for my RF-1200

@CanadianMotoGal

Hey Paul when I am not wearing my contacts, I wear regular or transitions glasses and it seems fine either way. The transitions glasses just don't darken/darken much when the shield is down and activated. Even when they are dark (my glasses) I can still see just fine. Hope that helps!
