I'm shocked the horse just let him do that. I don't know much about horses, but that was impressive. I didn't realize that much work went into shoeing a horse. And even I could tell how skilled the guy doing it is.
Love these videos and it's really enjoyable to watch someone who is skilled at what they're doing. Question: how often do you have to sharpen the tools and how do you do that? 🙂 oh and also, do you use any hearing protection for the metal hammering?
i've always been confused/curious about when you're shaping the shoe; i assume you're shaping it to fit the hoof? but if the hoof isn't right in front of you for reference are you like.... doing it from memory or something?????
It takes a lot of practice. Plus you got a few methods. You can hot shoe and see where it lines up. You can also just use a soap stick and see where the lines go. It's what I do. You just have to make sure it's a little bigger than the hoof so there is some growth room.
Farriers make this look so easy. Trust me it is not! You can’t use brute force to move a horses leg into position. If that horse doesn’t want to do what you want them to. Then you’re out of luck. A good farrier builds a trust with the horse and has a way with the horse.
