I’d take the asics every time cause in my experience those are made with higher quality materials. I’ve never owned a pair of cortezes but I’ve owned several onitsukas and have never let me down. The nike shoes I’ve used are overall pretty but poorly made like the huaraches. Design wise the idea and image abstraction of the ASICS shoes is way more interesting and visually balanced for me. Like the drawing

Ive used cortez and onitsuka both. I can confirm that onitsuka is far far better than nike or any other brands. The comfort with onitsuka is unbelievable

Nike didn't rip off the shoes. Bill Bowerman designed the Onitsuka Tiger Cortez when Nike, then Blue Ribbon Sports, was still the distributor for Onitsuka in the US. Nike just made some changes to the design for their version, and then later went on their own. That's why they were able to sell the shoes and not have it become a legal mess, because they actually partly owned the design. A court decided that Nike and Onitsuka could both sell the shoes for that same reason. Nike kept the Cortez name and Onitsuka Tiger kept selling their version as the Tiger Corsair.

I just bought some onitsuka tiger corsair and they seemed suspiciously similar to the nike cortez... my first thought was that they were some kind of copy, now thanks to you I see that it is the opposite

Did you know that Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman both Founders of the world's largest supplier of athletic shoes and apparel and a major manufacturer of sports equipment NIKE (formerly Blue Ribbon Sports) were distributors of Onitsuka Tiger Shoes during the 1960s. In fact, NIKE Cortez’s design was inspired by Onitsuka Tiger’s TG-24 (Now “Tiger Corsair”) before it was even called NIKE Cortez.

i got my Tiger Corsair from Osaka last 2018. Till now, even with 2 nike cortez in the shelves next to it, the Corsair quality still amazing. Yes they looks similar, but I can say my nike cortez is almost destroyed already haha, maybe its because the Corsair i bought from Japan trip, i took care of it more.

Quick fact check: The Cortez isn’t a “rip-off” per se: rather, the Cortez was manufactured by Onitsuka (now ASICS) to the specifications of its official U.S. distributor, Blue Ribbon Sports (now Nike). The trouble came when the newly-founded Nike started manufacturing its own version of the Cortez with its soon-to-be-iconic “swoosh” rather than Onitsuka’s “tiger stripes”. A legal battle ensued, and while both companies retained the rights to make it (Nike being the designer and Onitsuka being the original manufacturer), Nike got to keep the name, so the Onitsuka version was rebranded the Corsair.

This is false info, they were once the same company (blue ribbon sports). when they split they both allowed one another the ability to use the Same silhouette. Nobody ripped anyone off. Nobody capitalized off a “stolen design”. Nike’s version just became more iconic.

Totally true. They were working together and Bowerman sent in the design for the Cortez right before the Olympic Games in Mexico.

actually your wrong onitsuka and nike actually owns the shoes back then the brand of the shoes is actually blue ribbon sports and then they've come up with the name cortez after that some issues were done so nike and onitsuka separated sides but only nike got the name cortez and onitsuka is just onitsuka tigers
@kingarchnyc
@kingarchnyc 7 лет назад
Clarification: Bowen actually worked on the design too and took the design with him when he left asics. A court decision let Nike used it.

+misio87 nike , originally known as BRS, was founded to sell onitsuka tiger shoes in US. When visited Japan in 1963 right before he graduated from Stanford University, he was impressed by Onitsuka Tiger shoes with their high quality but reasonable prices. He immediately visited Onitsuka Tiger office then and asked to be their sales agent in US. When Phil Knight founded Nike he headhunted engineers from Onitsuka and made shoes at Asahi cooperation in Fukuoka, therefore early Nike shoes were made in Japan.

Onitsuka Tiger was founded in late 1940s and Nike came into existence in the 1960s.So how is it possible that Nike owners/designers helped create Onitsuka shoes.And by the way Nike company was initially known as Blue Ribbon Sports and it was created to sell Onitsuka shoes in the US.So basically Onitsuka spawned Nike

@lordpis6479
@lordpis6479 3 года назад
First of all lets get your facts straight. Your terminologies arw all wrong. Nike cortez is not. A rip off from corsair. Back in the days before philip knight, owner of nike started, he wanted to make shoes from japan and bring them over to the usa. Onitsuka tiger agreed so basically onitsuka created the first cortez. And shipped them to philip knight. Thus cortez was born. Its not a rip off. Its called rebranding. Onitsuka tiger helped jumpstart Nike.. Watch your history bro
