Someone from the countryside of Britain might not worry about dysentery very much where clean water was easy to get but in crowded cities like London or a ship with limited fresh water or an army camp with poor sewage control dysentery, cholera, and numerous other diseases spread like wild fire. They didn't understand the cause in the 16th century but they had a good idea of the correlation between crowding and the spread of such diseases. As a result, they had practices like avoiding bathing. London's water and waste removal was primitive and conducive to disease.
Apparently.. the water in England was pretty dirty because during those times.. they didn't have proper sewage systems and they didn't have plumbing.. threw out trash and piss.. and all kinda nasty stuff just outside their door, was gross ! Thanks for the reaction , was fun seeing other people's thoughts on this great show !
Blackthorne speaks English, Portuguese and Dutch. Rodriguez speaks Spanish, Portuguese and Japanese. Mariko speaks Japanese and Portuguese. Alvito Speaks Portuguese, Latin and Japanese. The crew of the Erasmus speaks Dutch. So, when Blackthorne is talking to himself, that's English. When he talks to his crew, that's Dutch. When he speaks with Mariko, Rodriguez or Alvito, that's Portuguese.
16:25 I was confused by this, too, Tasha. I didn't understand why they walked him out into the forest. I suspect it had to do with Blackthorne being connected to Toranaga, rather than a local prisoner of Ishido. IDK
