That is so cool! When I was a kid I received Conquest of the Empire as a birthday gift. I'll never forget opening up the box and seeing all those cool little Caesars and roman soldiers. That day I realized games could be so much better than Life, Sorry, and Monopoly, the only games anyone ever seemed to play. Shogun looks amazing!
@@johntheisman6516 Good, I think! I never played it with real gamers. I do remember hating the tribute inflation rule as a kid. I did play it with my own family a few years ago. 5 of us, and it took a long time. Before that, I'd never played with more than 2 others. Catapults are devastating and I understand they were nerfed a bit in newer versions. It was a great gift. The original box art for that Milton Bradley series is fantastic.
I just stumbled across this. I still have Shogun and Fortress America games from my college days. We played Axis and Allies to death, and these were nice for a change of pace. Shogun's mechanics were a little complicated, but fun. The biggest feature was you only had 3 powerful armies, so you could never guard you territories from all directions. There was always an open boarder, so negotiation/alliance was key. Inevitably the winner was the person that betrayed their partner at the best time. Fortress America was a little less fun, since it always followed the same game flow. The America player got absolutely destroyed for several turns, but if they could manage to just hold on long enough they would win. Never found any interesting variations to this one (unlike A&A where you could e.g. have Japan go all in against Russia or other weird scenarios).
Hey Stan, this is Daniel from around the board (not John who was in the video), I just wanted to thank you for watching one of our reviews. I hope you have time to check our our main show. - Daniel
I had played this once 32 years ago in college and I had been looking for a good deal on it since then. Last weekend a friend of mine was able to get me a near mint copy for free... :)
@@Obalcan in the original comment you said "I have a beaten down moldy copy". I was just joking around that you might need a new, not moldy copy. ( I also understand this was likely hyperbole and your copy doesn't have mold on it :)
Ah, I thought you maybe wanted to buy it. It smells of mold but does not have any visible mold on it. Hame has the oroginal katanas so I am stickimg with it. No new version of the game has it.
