19:03 Nestor Carbonell. He was Richard Alpert in LOST. The dude who was ageless. He was also the mayor in the Dark Knight Rises and Batmanuel in the early 00s version of the Tick TV show. He's also the weather man in The Morning Show series. He has been in many films and TV shows if you look at his IMDB.

It’s like Game of Thrones because GRRM said he was influenced by it when writing Game of Thrones. Both the 1980 mini-series and James Clavell’s Asian Saga books were hugely popular. “Noble House” was also made into a mini-series in the ‘80s.

The intro said that the Portuguese have been in Japan for decades, in fact, nearly 60 years. Enough time to introduce Catholicism and the language to the population, but also to pick up the Japanese language and customs.

Thanks, Derek! 🗾 I'm glad you're reacting to this. I loved the mini-series from 44 years ago. My boyfriend loves the novel. The role of 'John Blackthorne' a.k.a. 'Anjin', as you looked up, is played by *Cosmo* *Jarvis* wearing blue contact lenses. I recognize him as 'Barney' from PEAKY BLINDERS (2019), as 'Campion' from RAISED BY WOLVES (2020) and as 'Wentworth' from PERSUASION (2022). He's also a great musician! Check out his ode to "Gay Pirates". It's really lovely... and jaunty. 🏴‍☠

They've done an amazing job with this adaptation so far, though I have some issues with the writing for Lady Mariko. They do a really good job with subtle storytelling and character development. Toranaga was describing his own philosophy when he described how his falcon behaved. I'll wait for EP 2 to drop to get more into it. I'm actually liking this one better than the 80's version, though I liked it's Mariko better

Please… pronounce the title correctly. It’s not “Show Gun” but more like “shoh-goon”
